I think I should just do a day after a rest day and try and figure these all out. I don't get it though, I feel like my shoulders/traps are pretty strong as I can shrug 205 for reps pretty easily but according to my OHP of 6 reps @ 70 lbs I'm a novice. Do you guys keep a log of your workouts? I used to, but it got tedious and started to seem like I was doing sets that looked better on paper rather than actually working myself to the max. I have been trying to find this site for a while though, thanks man.
I track shit on fitocracy so if I ever think I'm not making progress I just look back to a few weeks ago and realise I am. It helps with planning workouts too, you look at what you were doing and try do more the next time.
So I'm liking the look of this 5-3-1 deal, especially since I'm starting to train one of my friends on Monday. One, do you reckon I can still get results as good as my 3-on-1-off PPL that I'm doing now even though I'll only be going 4 days a week? Secondly, is the 5-3-1 going to kill my total beginner of a friend? Finding our 1RM seems like it'll make a base for getting her in shape a lot easier.

Well I've been working out on and off for the past year so I'm getting pretty familiar with what I can do with good form. Honestly with really strict form I'm sure I could hit 205 for at least 3 squatting, but I'm going to spend the first week finding my maxes properly
tbh "on off for the past year" barely constitutes as lifting in my opinion i've been on-off for roughly 3 years and only in the last 6 months have i vaguely started considering myself good enough to not have shitty form -- even then, i took a round up the SL5x5 program starting from the bottom up just to go through a few months of form checking
Am I the only one who doesn't deadlift/squats? I find the risk I take doing especially deadlifts outweighs the benefits. You can just as easily get the same muscles exercised from other activities.
some stick by them, others don't. it's up to you to personally evaluate what kind of lifts put you at higher injury risk -- i can't do dumbbell lateral raises due to my chronic carpal tunnel, for instance, but i have no problem doing dumbbell press and the like.
I've never done deadlifts besides the odd once or twice and I've been doing them a lot more lately and I'll admit they work very well. I thought I couldnt get sore in areas I've worked so much but with trying them now I have a good deep sore all along my entire back. You dont have to do them, I built my back very well without them, just be sure to try them again some time down the road.
I used to be so fucking good at deadlifts but they kept giving me a stiff lower back on rest days, very unpleasant might get back into them soon
deadlifts huh
found this on /fit/ yesterday pretty amazing for his weight tbh
while i get that rounded back deadlifting is valid for a lot of people it's still painful to watch for me
It took ages for me to get the flexibility to deadlift/ squat correctly but now that I have it I love them
It took ages for me to get the flexibility to deadlift/ squat correctly but now that I have it I love them
I'm still working on that, I don't go as deep as I like due to flexbility issues, but I still get good leg DOMS so I'm fine carrying on until that mobility eventually comes. Really upset with myself today. Had a great workout with the Personal Trainer, but he wanted to finish the session off with 3 prowler runs. I straight up told him I couldn't, and refused. I said I'm normally a pushover and will do what I'm told, but that in this case I just wouldn't budge. He told me I'd done it last week so I can do it again, but I just couldn't face revisiting that awful feeling I had the last time I did them. Feeling faint, like I was on the border of having a panic attack (I just felt really shitty) and like I was gonna puke. He told me how am I ever gonna get better if I don't face my fears, and that he just couldn't understand my mentality. He gave me a telling off and was justifiably angry, saying what's the point in paying good money to him if I'm not going to listen to him. I just said that the last time I did prowler runs, I felt like I was gonna puke and had to spend ten minutes in the toilet running cold water on my face until my heart stopped feeling like it was gonna burst out my chest (didn't mention the borderline panic attack I felt, since it makes me feel like an utter pussy). He said that if I do this again in a future session, he'll just outright refuse to take me on as a client anymore. It was shitty being told valid advice by someone, especially who wants the best for me, but I just couldn't face that fucking prowler again. So yeah, feeling really shit with myself on what would otherwise have been a great session. Fuck. [editline]1st February 2015[/editline] :(
eh dude powering through that shit is how you get better at things it's a test of character and you get to feel great if you beat it also flexibility's a bitch for me, I can put my feet behind my head but I can't for the life of me touch the floor without bending my knees cuz hammies are tight as fuck, because of that I still can't deadlift properly, stretching's taking months so I just do rack pulls and they're great
I've found I basically can't highbar squat without my weightlifting shoes. The raised heels makes all difference! When I try with regular shoes, it feels like it's less stable and my body tries to lowbar squat or something, with my butt shooting back a good amount. The weird thing is I could have sworn I used to be able to go lower with regular shoes, albeit I probably had some butt winkage going on. When I started lifting 2 years ago (woot woot, 2 years this month!) people told me I had the lowest squat they have ever seen. Obviously a bit of exaggeration, but still, they were not used to seeing squats that low in the gym regularly. It's weird because my ankle mobility has definitely improved, yet squatting without the shoes feel shitty, kinda like getting used to a belt by using it constantly. Here's an old pic from my first year: Old video: Newest video on youtube(I have newer on Facebook, but not sure If you can embed those), starting at 2:26 : Still not even close to my best or lowest squats, but there is a difference. Also, I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but I have a hella tight left ankle, so I can only go as low as that one allows me, as if I go as low as the other ankle allows, the left heel comes off the floor. It's a constant work in progress.
Am I the only one who doesn't deadlift/squats? I find the risk I take doing especially deadlifts outweighs the benefits. You can just as easily get the same muscles exercised from other activities.
Every lift is a risk if you don't know what you are doing. You can tear a bicep when simply bicep curling, you can drop the bar on your chest when benching or hurt you shoulder... I for example don't do upright rows, because it is very uncomfortable for my shoulders. I also stopped doing incline flys, because of the same reason.
Started going to the gym 2 weeks ago, feel kind of embarrassed when everyone around me is lifting god knows how many kg and I'm struggling with the lightest weights lol
No one was born strong, they had to get there. And you can get there too if you just keep it up.
even george leeman started with like a 115lb bench in other news I attempted a 120 kg squat 'cause I had been doing 110kg feeling like I could maybe up it. Did not turn out well, got to the bottom and realized it was a bad idea, tried pushing myself up with one hand on my leg, took about a second to figure out that was stupid as fuck, then almost tried good morning them up basically, realized how stupid that was too, gave up and squatted lower and let the bar drop onto the safety railings. Chuckled a bit at how funny it must've looked, carried on squatting a little lighter :v: Confident I could reach it soon, was after a decently tiring set so I might try it again. Squats are also my favorite exercise next to deathlifts but also one of my weakest (if strength standards is to be trusted) Also <3 dumbbell shoulder press [editline]1st February 2015[/editline] Also started doing front squats combined with high bar squats on the same day, fucking kills my legs
NOONE, what shoes do you have m8? I was thinking of getting powerlift 2's but I wonder if I should just man up and get adipowers [editline]1st February 2015[/editline] Though dropping €180 on shoes seems kinda ridiculous

It even provides ideas for accessory work if you're too lazy to come up with them on your own. I prefer doing something similar to the triumvirate.

so I'm thinking of switching from my Upper/Lower routine (4x a week) to a push pull legs program wondering which would be better (each word is a day in the week): Push pull legs break Push Pull legs - only one break, but I am giving each muscle group quite a bit of rest Push pull legs break push pull break - more upper body work than lower, but more rest I think the first one cause I don't want to skimp out on legs, but if one day legs is enough the extra rest would be appreciated

Shoot these guys an email first though if you consider them; I don't know about their international shipping policy or if it's expensive or not. You might be able to find a more local vendor though. Doubt it will be an issue. Olympic style/highbar squatting is narrow (although I probably could go a couple inches wider...I have gotten comfortable with the stance I do now though). Your knees are suppose to travel pretty far forward.
Yo so long story short I got a few stitches on my face cheek yesterday. I wanted to work out today but I dont know if its a better idea to let it recover for a while or not. Also afraid Ill mess it up if I start doing an exercise and my face starts scrunching up by itself from all the effort when Im supposed to let it rest. I mean.. can you push yourself and keep a straight face? haha What do? :(
I dunno if this is the right thread, but since FF is gone I figured it'd do. Since September of 2014 I've lost just about 25 pounds thanks to FF. Granted I'm not like super fit or ripped or anything like that, but I feel really fucking good, so thanks guys.
Hey guys roid head here, previously I was only doing dbol cycles but now I am going onto a trenbolone acetate cycle stacked with 40mg dianabol This is my progress after 2 and a half weeks of 30mg dianabol, but my main concern is if I injected it correctly and how do you know? My arm is a little sore but I forgot to pull to the plunger out to see if any blood came :S From the pic you can where the needle was injected, it was a 1,1/4 inch needle with '23' whatever that means? Anyway if you can reassure me I ain't gonna die by intravenous injection or whatever would be nice thanks :v: [t]http://i.imgur.com/U7f345j.jpg[/t]
sry ur dying of steroid aids
but did I do it right?
Gonna start my first post-bulk cut! From what I've read basically just keep things the same, but maybe focus purely on strength building + cardio, have the same amount of protein, but lower everything else calorie wise. Planning on cutting some of my hypertrophy movements I'd normally do at the end in favor of cardio stuff. I guess I should post progress pics. May-ish last year: [t]http://puu.sh/fnrCF/97a89ed122.jpg[/t] I cut for a couple of months after this pic was taken to start off with, went down from 185 to 160. Then I started bulking back up to 180ish, where I'm at here as of yesterday: [t]http://puu.sh/fnrFn/84e497bd26.jpg[/t] Gonna cut for maybe a couple of months again to get rid of chin, ass, chest and belly fat before going hardcore into bulking. I could have gotten better progress I'm sure if I ate more in the past couple of months. I've been fluctuating between 177-179 most of december and january, I prob should have adjusted my calorie intake to be higher so the progress was modest at best in that period. Next time I'm gonna just make it a goal to eat 250 more calories or so a day more when I notice I stall on weight and lifts for two weeks in a row. At least my cut will be easy I hope :v:
