too sick to go to training yesterday still too sick to lift today, feels bad
i'm gonna start some fire here, but i honestly don't think planet fitness is really that bad. yes, the lunk alarm is a fucking stupid as hell concept, and not being able to drop the weights loudly(you can still kinda let them fall though) makes it a bit difficult to practice your 1rm at planet fitness, but you take what you can get they're fucking everywhere, and the price is dirt cheap. they're not lacking on weights either -- as long as you're not busy being ULTIMATE WARRIOR (see here ) then you can probably get a decent workout in. the color scheme is fucking atrocious, and it's obviously not a place for powerlifters who need to max themselves out to see their performance for a competition, but you can definitely get a good workout in besides, if you find yourself needing to scream while dumbbell pressing 60 lbs, you should probably reconsider some things in life
Yeah I really never got the flack it gets, I mean sure a lot of idiots go there. But eh, they are one of the board gyms around. Every time I bring it up though I always get flak of "oh man that isn't a gym go to X or not at all", "Lunk alarm", or "they don't max out at 500lbs". I don't plan or want to do exhaustion training, and dropping weights at least in my experience is looked down on anyways; just fucking do one less rep. Think I might just go with them again since I can pretty much find them near every place I have to visit. Would like something to go to that isn't an eye strain though, I would like golds gym if they didn't move out of my area.
Anytime fitness? If you're a member of any specific gym you can still walk in to any other AF gym as if you're a member of that one too, like how I'm a member of AF in a town 20 minutes away but I work out at the AF in my current town. Doesn't cost anything extra, you just have to be a member for at least a month before you can do that. I'm not sure how Anytime fitness gyms are in the US, like if they're similar to what I've heard about planet fitness or not. But in Australia each gym varies a lot. My current one has a punching bag while my old gym didn't, but my old gym had heaps of room for doing stuff like deadlifts. Most people who go seem to only use the strength machines, so there's never a shortage of free weights. Each one has a variety of cardio machines too.
Might give Anytime Fitness a go, wonder if they have a trial. Not interested in a treadmill factory. And yes I am aware PF does have a large amount of dream mills but they do have a good set of weights.
it's just the entire concept of it a judgement free zone with a loud, irritating device that judges people for retarded shit that a real gym wouldn't bat an eye to that and "cupcake mornings" and "pizza fridays" or whatever is also fucking ridiculous
After eating buffalo wings with my wife, I did some pistol squats. I felt like I was going to shit fire through my shorts. This is why I never cheat. [editline]13th February 2015[/editline]
that and "cupcake mornings" and "pizza fridays" or whatever is also fucking ridiculous
Do they also give participation trophies to anyone who signs up?
Aw man, got my barbell set delivered yesterday and one of the collar locks is fucked so it needs to be tilted when put on, goes hardly all the way in and almost impossible to take off. I hope those I bought it from can help me with this Was so fucking excited for being able to properly squat instead of using a 130cm shitty 1 inch thick barbell, damn it. EDIT: Nice, they're sending a new one.
so it turns out im allergic to dr pepper, how is this shit even possible? i hardly ever drink soda, and im not allergic to any others like my fingertips are peeling and my palms are all sweaty and shit its fucking gross. and the cold weather during lax practice only exacerbates it ;(
So I went from 174 to 162 in about 30 days since I started off in January. The diet plan obviously works and I am back to where I am. I think it's about time to implement some strength-training in addition to my half-marathon plan which is usually 12-15 miles of running per week.

How much of that you lost was actually muscle?
So my left shoulder audibly pops every time I do lateral raises. Should I be concerned? It happens even after warming up, etc. Will this go away or is this a sign of something worse?
New 1 rep back squat pr: 255 lbs. feels great! I was really surprised how much the descent affects you when squatting heavy weight. I used to drop really slowly and it would use all my energy. But when I just drop down, it feels like I can squat much more when I push up from the bottom.
Huh, done the same weight today for 2 sets of 2, the descent is important, do it fast but controlled and spring out of it. I find I start to get stuck about 3/4 of the way up though and it takes a few secs to lock out.
I thought a slow descent was part of proper form? Cause if you just drop down fast, you're using momentum, no? That's how I was taught to do it, anyways. Controlled descent, explosive ascent.
So Ive been doing Stronglifts for about 2 years on and off. I havent made much progress in the last half a year but whatever, Im happy with what my body now, but I feel I should be bigger. Thing is, I feel like I should be switching for a hypertrophy program now. My legs are already good from all those squats but my upper body needs catching up. I dont really see any use in that functional strenght anymore because theres not many opportunities to use that kind of strenght outside the gym. And i guess people care more about size than strenght anyway. So should I switch to hypertrophy? Maybe for the next year and then back to strenght? Also is there a hypertrophy program that isnt splits but a 3 day full body workout?
You weren't already strength training? How much of that you lost was actually muscle?
My assumption was it was just the extra weight I got over the winter.
Today was a Ehhh day. Me and my buddy got bored so we went around maxxing out 90% of the machines in the gym (only ones we could do were incline chest press and some insane shoulder one) and hitting on the fit tech who manned the help desk Oh! And we finally pushed 3 plates a side on the chest press machine!!! We've been working at it for about... a week and a half now? Started barely able to get it up, couldnt do it the next time, tried again tonight and we cranked it (i did it first and I RUBBED it in!), fueled by his ungoldy stubborness to match me in everything he does it, for 3 reps! So naturally I gotta match or surpass him, crank out 3 (wtf, we couldnt do one 4 days ago) and left super happy.

I do low rep divebomb squats to get me more explosive/powerful and to get bigger numbers on the lift.

What a coincidence, I started divebombing my squats recently and I can squat way more than before. I used to hate them because I could leg press something like 4x what I could squat but now I just drop my ass down and bust up the motherfuckers like nobody's business. Feels good I'm only going 4 days per week and I've already missed 2, what's wrong with me? I need to sort my life out
Squatted 335 a couple days ago. Feels good man.
Still have another week until I can lift Its been a hella boring 3 weeks guys I miss the gym :(
Knees seem all healed up, back seems the best it's going to be, time to get my legs back mentlegen
A callus on my hand tore Stings like a bitch and bled a little
Been taking about 10g of creatine a day for the last month after a loading period (I know it's disputed, but it can't hurt) and I've definitely been getting stronger at a faster rate than normal.
Most of February and the last month basically have been terrible for lifting. With another storm hitting here in New England in several hours, I'm contemplating to once again not hit up the gym. Guess I can at least get a little mix of cardio and lifting dealing with the snow. Worked my shoulders a bit holding this crazy roof raker my dad made overhead. I'm just gonna have and try to look forward to March because this stretch of bullshit weather has made my lifting addiction hell! :v: Just one fix plz
heard that storm neptune is gonna rekt some blokes over on the east coast, rip in pepperonis

Also I've been doing a lot of dips lately and I've noticed a large positive change in strength recently. The dips used to hurt my collar bone and the bones around my chest really bad, but now I feel completely fine after 30+ dips. It's like my triceps finally decided to start growing. :)
Benched 315x1, then 335x1, tried 375x1 but I figure I was tired from 315 before along with some other chest exercises we did before. Trying 355 next chest day then 375, should be able to.
Easy 120 kg pr squat today, probably could go 140 fresh as I felt like I could do 3/4x 120 (lighter bodyweight too, dropped close to 10kg already during this cut as I'm at 84 from 94 start of jan). Switched from high bar to low bar and its done absolute wonders for the amount of weight I can put on the bar and the irregular pain I used to get in my lower back sometimes. Combine those with front squats and my legs shake when I walk out the gym
