what are you looking for in 3x3?
usually depending on how many days you work out, it goes 1 heavy, 1-2 medium, and then 1-2 light workout days.
So I found myself eating a prodigious amount of chicken as of late.
Post-Workout shake (whey): 50g protein
Cereal with 2% milk (Original Kellog's) ~16g
BBQ Chicken with veggies ~25g
Bag of Jerky (Jack Link's Peppered) ~14g (w/ lot's o Na)
Protein bar ~25g
Lettuce-wrapped burger with a chicken patty and turkey bacon ~30g
Oven-cooked chicken breast ~25g
So that's around ~175g of protein which is just above my bodyweight on a workout day. Looks like I may need to make my meals a little bigger to get past about 200 next time around. I'm thawing some store-bought salmon for tomorrow and cooking a few more of my chicken for some yum.
My wife thinks my six pack isn't that defined because of excess skin...
Protein shake in water tastes like ass. When I was cutting I had protein shakes with skim milk.
You want protein on off-days because you continue to recover your muscles on those days.
Almond milk tastes good if your protein powder's good. 35-40cal in a cup, and a button of calcium.

$3 per litre tho, fuck that. Milk is $1
I can't process certain dairy products (luckily, I can process yogurt), so I have to use almond milk. Almonds are actually good for testosterone production and a few other things. I'm pretty broke, but I've still managed it into my budget.

my girlfriend hated my sixpack and loved it when i got back on the bulk
i am in heaven, i get laid for bulking and i get to make mad strength gains

My mom thinks my entire athletic ability and overall health is scewered on whether I have visible abs or not
I guess its good because she isnt kissing my ass so part of me wants to impress her always.
And Chaseymusica,
you get out of what you put into it, I started at 6'4 175 @ 12% body fat or around there and in the begining of school in grade 11 (2013). Im 19 now and I've gone up to 233 @10/11% bodyfat. I wasnt big or strong to begin with, extremely unathletic, and I didnt know what I was doing but what I did do was make sure i never missed a day and constantly pushed to improve, like a thirst for knowledge. Since then I have NEVER taken off longer than a week from the gym except if I were to get sick. Its change you can actually see and feel.
Its helped more than physical appearance, it gave me a heap of confidence, social skills, friends, goals, and a passion to better myself along with a very positive outlook. Happiness.
I've repeated my story a lot in hopes of inspiring people, I can write a novels worth if you would like but I'll cut it short.
Lifting will change your life
my chick is visiting tomorrow
no workout
god
Obviously I'll be making less muscle gains compared to a hypertrophy programme, but I presume I'll still make decent muscle gains on Stronglifts (provided diet is in check)?
All these theories about newb gains and strength vs hypertrophy for beginners seem so inconclusive.
You'll do just fine on SL 5x5
tried out a personal trainer for the first time today. he definitely seems like he knows what he is doing, and already helped me with some issues i was having with the bench press and dumbbell press. its a shame that i just cant afford him
i personally hate personal trainers, they didnt really help me that much
just make some friends in the gym, you'll get the same help for free
The past few visits to the gym for me have been uncomfortable and gradually more and more annoying.
I don't use machines, bells or the smith -just the power rack - and 90% of the time I go there it's taken by these 2 school kids. They like to take their time by talking to one another while not doing anything at all, and not offering to take turns. I could be waiting for up to half an hour before they get bored and move on.
And when I do get in the rack, they'll be next to it on bells or whatever, and they always criticize/mock other people out loud. Especially myself - once, when I was doing the bench press and dropped the bar on my chest - they proceeded to laugh out loud. I wouldn't have cared if they had shown just a slight bit of concern beforehand. The bar was quite light but it really hurt my chest. And lastly, and I'm sure people will agree this is annoying, they never clean up when they're done. Leaving plates and shit all over the place or completely out of stacking order.
I'm tempted to make a formal complaint to a staff member about it but I doubt they'll do anything. Not initially anyway. I would go to another gym if I could, but the only other place in town requires a subscription fee, and I'm too poor for that.
They literally laugh at people? What the fuck??
even the cockiest fucks I know wouldn't dare do that in a gym

School kids. Very rare to find someone from that age group with any courtesy/respect nowadays.
Yeah, I got some high school kids that frequent my gym too. They yap like girls, and always fuck around. Not the most annoying people ever though, and they'll do turns no problem. It's just listening and watching them that is annoying as fuck. But hey, it presents a new challenge to work on by testing your acceptance of others, along with your patience and focus :v:. At least that's how I look at it.
In the past, I had this one instance where mid squat this dude said something to make me laugh my ass off, and so I started to loose it. I was using safety bars at the time though so I didn't have any real issue, but it sucked really wanting that rep, and almost getting it, only to have it ruined. I also hate it when dumbasses walk within 2inches of me mid lift, as if they think they have noclip on and won't get hit. Again, never actually had a serious issue where someone got whacked, but one of these days I swear, shit might just happen!
I don't know if people are just really polite where I am, and you could look like paper and sticks, nobody will make fun of you or even look at you. Sure, people make quick glances, but there is a degree of respect and giving each other space.
I feed off cocky highschool kids and assholes as ilmon3y described.
Staring at people and judging them? I stare at them till they look at their feet and continue until they leave.
Laughing/joking about someone doing something light or bad form? I crank out whatever they are doing but 4x as heavy and stare at them the whole time.
Hogging a machine and talking? Walk on over, full eye contact, ask if they are using it any more which ends up with them usually giving me the machine, if not I find something close by and watch them until they leave so they can feel the pressure of having to actually crank their shit out.
There isnt too many pricks at the gym when I do go (late to avoid the general populace) but the ones i do see fuck off real fast
Nothing is better than getting real mad at assholes indirectly and using it as fuel to crank out an unholy amount of weight/reps
But everyone likes high school kids if they aren't annoying. I'd like to preface this by saying that I'm in a fitness club populated mostly by people my age, and we all know each other by name, but I had a fucking stacked Valon Kyre lookalike spot my puny 85 lb bench because he thought I had 'grit', even though I nearly dropped it on the 4th rep.
People supporting you in gyms is nice.
I'm in highschool, myself, but I stopped going to the gym when I got my own setup at home. I don't know why, but I always prefer the quiet and convenience of going down into the basement and having my weights ready to go because I didn't have to worry about putting them back for the next person.
I like socializing and all, but weightlifting is one of the several things I like to do alone and undisturbed (until my cats come snooping around trying to figure out what I'm up to).
i ate 8 skinless boneless chicken breasts today
father forgive me for this gains i'm about to receive
Well I can finally squat my own bodyweight. Now time to reach for the 200LB mark.
Sometimes I wonder how the hell some people are able to build anything more than their jaws at the gym. Like, last time I went, there's this group of blokes who only ever seem to fuck around and talk about shit rather than actually lifting. And when they do lift, this one guy in particular loads massive weights for the bench press but then only does half reps. At least the personal trainers see him and give him shit for it, but then he just shrugs it off.

Next time someone says 'I'm using that' to me when I start to use equipment - after them spending the last ten minutes fucking around talking to someone else, I'm just gonna tell them outright to fuck off. If you want to use it, actually use it.

report them to a staff member.
I'm coming up on 5 months of consistent strength training now, made some nice gains overall. 6' tall, 195 pounds.
Squats 225
Deads 225
Bench 135
OHP 85
Rows 150
All are 3x5, Deads are 1x5. I can definitely see a difference in the mirror, particularly my ass and back. Problem is, I don't know whether I should continue bulking or if I should start cutting. I feel as if my upper body progress has been very lackluster in comparison to my lower body, and the past month has been shit overall thanks to my diet being awful and missing gym days. Considering this makes me want to continue bulking with a fixed diet and proper routine. Specifically, I'd like to improve my bench and OHP as I've stalled on them for nearly two months.
On the other hand, I want to cut because I've never actually had low body fat before, and I'd like to see how I look with muscle definition.
What would you guys do in my situation? I can post some before/after pics if desired but they're pretty shit.
Let's make this a little easier: Agree for bulk, disagree for cut.

I'm kind of in the same boat, but I'm going to keep bulking until my arms are impressive enough to show off. When I feel I've reached that goal, then I'll start cutting.
I decided to leave strenght training for now, Im going to try hypertrophy now. Any recommendable programs that have an A-B days system or can I grab Stronglifts and just change it to 3x8?
Anybody have experience with 3x3 Strength programs? Is it okay to just take the Texas Method and turn all 5s into 3s while increasing the % of xRM on everything?
