Try doing seated calf raises with a barbell and see if that works better for you. Also make sure you place the bar in the right place on your back. First time I did lowbar squats my back hurt for a week, but that was just because I placed the bar in the wrong place.
Somehow, I've never heard of seated calf-raises. This is awesome, thank you.
At the risk of sounding like I have no idea what the fuck I'm doing (because reasonably, I probably don't) I think I've been doing sit-ups wrong. I've only been working out for a few months now, but recently, the thing that stops me from doing more sit-ups isn't that my abs get too worn out or I get too tired or whatever.
It's that my ass gets irritated. Right around my tailbone, my asscrack starts to burn too much. Is it the carpet I'm sitting on? The clothes I'm wearing/not wearing? Do I need to grow more ass meat? Or am I probably using some dumb-ass improper technique?
Should I think about some other kind of ab workout?
Just sit on a towel, that's what I do when I need to do situps on hard floor.
Squatted 225 for 4 reps first time today. Feelsgoodmayne. Now all I want is the feel of squatting 3 plates.

Gay thread on exercise is hard to read.
Ok so I seriously messed up the hip flexors in my right leg. I was just sort of ignoring the dull somewhat unpleasant pain and today while deadlifting I saw stars after my first rep because pain just ripped through my entire leg.
Then, instead of stopping, I just switched to stiff legged deadlifts and it was better but I think I need to see a doctor before doing any leg exercises. Weird thing is, cardio doesn't bother it any.
Ugh had push day today but my game was terrible. Was half repping both my dips and bench. Would it be sensible to perhaps go back ten hours later and do bench again, but drop the weight and aim for full reps?
Just did full upper body in the most ghetto gym

I'll have to try that from the beginning next time. But it looks like I'm gonna have to wait several more days for my asscrack to recover.
I was trying all kinds of stuff near the end of my workout today, putting on and taking off different pants, but just having a towel there seemed to help the most. Unfortunately, the damage was already done for today.
jfc guys, make sure your OHP form is on point
I just went from 0x50kg to 3x50kg
but 0 x 50 equals zero lifts????
why yes I couldn't even 1RM it
Last week of my bulk so I'm taking some maxes, clean is finally 100kg, deadlift is 160.
I don't know if this belongs here, didn't see any other sports thread so I thought I'll post here, so after the most recent BJJ training session (last week) I noticed a few days later that my groin hurts, thought that it was nothing abnormal and it was just recovering from the training, but today as I was there, the groin area hurted so much I almost could not control my legs for locks and sweeps, I got regionals next week, what do???
I don't think it's gotten as far as athletic pubalgia, just minor pain in the groin area, but makes the moves much more difficult to do without grinning.

See a doctor and rest. Depending on what your doctor say, I would recommend skipping the regional and recover if you are not top form by then. Would suck pretty bad for missing it but it's better to rest and come back stronger than to make your pain worse. I am not trained in BJJ or anything so maybe someone else from here (if I am not wrong a couple of regular posters here also does BBJ) can share a better advice on how to recover from BBJ related injuries fast.
I really want to cut for the summer but I'm worried I'll lose all the strength I've finally gained. What kind of strength loss can one expect with a proper cut? I've just finally hit 135 on bench after ages and it'd be a shame to get knocked back down to like 105.
Just train strength while you cut and you str loss will be minimal
I'm actually making some str gains (slowly) on my cut
Bench at 160-165 right now (5 reps), was 150-155 on the end of my bulk. Though I just finished recovering from food poisoning (which is basically no eating or drinking at all for about a day) so who knows if I'll be able to hit that again today
To be clear, do you mean lower weight and higher reps on a cut to maintain strength? I know hypertrophy isn't really that great since you can't build any mass on a deficit but I've read conflicting things about strength on a cut.
lower reps with same weight has worked for me in the past on cuts
you wanna keep the intensity high and the volume low

I mean it's not like you have to go on stage with an explosive full body boner pump
What do you guys think of street/bodyweight workout programmes?
My friend is suggesting we go try it out with someone who's already experienced but I'm not sure if it's an actual alternative for lifting. I've been going to the gym for about 2 months.
yes and no
It's phenomenal for strength gains, not so much for mass
depending on your starting point, it will probably take much longer to see results

pullups and shit are amazing for your physique though
[editline]24th March 2015[/editline]
pullups are literally the one excersise that makes you look like a man

Low reps high weight, the type of stuff you do to train for strength gains not hypertrophy gains
Cause you sure as shit aren't gonna build much muscle on a cut but you can maintain strength decently well at least to prevent muscle loss

I don't know what I'm doing wrong man. We're roughly the same weight (IIRC; 150-160lbs range) and yet you're progressing stupidly fast. Either my cleans need lots of work or I'm just week with oly lifts. Feels like I've been slowly correcting the areas I'm weak in too, such as doing more front squats and clean pulls.
How long have you been training the lifts again?

On the brightside I've at least managed to progress without any real coaching the past few months. Means I learned a thing or two, and am on the right track somewhat. I see that starting to be problem at some point again though.
I keep telling myself I want to compete a fair amount, else it kinda largely, but not completely, defeats the purpose of my time and effort being put in to all of this.
One potential thing to look forward to is if I ever move to Manchester (NH), there seems to be a serious oly gym in Concord that isn't also a crossfit shithouse. That's probably a few years in to the future though, when I'm hopefully making much better money. Until then, I wish there was someone else local to get coaching from....I really don't want to bother trying to reconnect with my old coach as he straight up went cold for no apparent reason, and was pretty inconsistent with staying in touch and being available. He was suppose to send me some new programming to follow last we talked...
Hell, we even attend the same school (never have seen him there though. Different majors and different class times).

Im less impressed by that record and more impressed with the fucking speed he shoots up on the warm-ups
I mean fucking hell

ye same deadlift max, how long you been training brah and what's your weight?
Oh wow, I always though strength was gained by using lower weight for more reps and hypertrophy/mass was gained with the opposite. Holy shit I'm blown away. Makes sense now why my 3-5 rep scheme deal that I've been doing has made incredible gains in the way of how much I can lift despite not really noticing a difference in my size.
Haven't been to the gym in about a month because joining a Fraternity has taken up almost all of my time that isn't spent in class. A few more weeks though and I'll hopefully have all the time in the world.

205lb
I've been on a serious bulk the last 5 months, been gaining ~2lb a week, plus noob gains when it comes to oly lifts, should explain my progress.
Doing oly twice a week for 3 months now.

Been lifting on and off since January 2013. I added it up and I've been out of action due to injuries/ sickness and study for about 8 months total.
Even given that timeframe I'm still disappointed with my progress.
[editline]24th March 2015[/editline]
I tried going for a max on bench today and hit 100kg, I'm not happy with that because I know for a fact I can do more. Back during the summer I could do 85x3 and I still hit 100. I can do 95x3 now so I should be getting 105 at least. This bulk doesnt end until I hit that.
God damn why is deadlift so fun??
Did 75kg 8 reps, was aiming for 10 but my grip was not great and using straps on the first set of the day is not a good idea.
