What does the 30 x 10 mean? 30kg for 10 reps? If so that's really odd because you somehow managed to push more weight on a tricep exercise than in your back and chest exercises. Are you doing full range of motion? Also by chest press do you mean the machine or a bench press with free weights? Either way I've never actually felt much of a pump from bench press. I've got the feeling from decline bench press that it works out the chest a bit more by almost taking shoulders out of the equation. But of all exercises, I feel my chest most in incline cable flys (upper chest though).
Haha I wish I could do 30kg, I mean 30lbs. All of those are freeweights minus assisted pull ups. I did do full range of motion. I find overhead tricep at 40lbs to be easier than chest press at 30lbs.
Can you perhaps elaborate a bit on chest and tricep exercises? I'm just confused about how you've managed to move more weight with your triceps than your chest. Like (back and biceps), I can do 65kg barbell rows for hypertrophy sets but can only do 30kg barbell curls (yeah I'm not the most experienced person here), and it's similar with chest and triceps (but my bench is embarrassing). Did you push enough weight on bench and felt you were reaching failure?

For me, failure feels like being unable to push up anymore while losing form rapidly.
Well now that makes a lot more sense Honestly I've never really felt as much of a pump in my chest as I have with like biceps or triceps sometimes. But I've still built my chest somewhat in strength (doubled my bench in 3 months) and appearance so don't worry.
Only time I ever get a good pump and feel it hit my chest really hard from BP is when I have someone spotting me. Those last few reps where I can barely get it up, and the spotter only applies a tiny bit of force to help, really wrecks my pecs. End up feeling DOMS like a motherfucker in my chest the next day. When I BP solo, I do get a slight hit to the chest, but nowhere near as thorough as the effect of having a spotter to make me push myself to the limit.
Is a 30 minute workout enough?
Shoot for longer but I've gotten sore on 30 minute workouts before, you just have to cut it short when time is short What I do typically if I'm short on time is only do 2-3 movements but make sure its a compound lift (not an isolation) and make sure to increase the number of sets I'm doing on it. That way I make sure I really hit the main thing I wanted to hit really well at least even if I didn't get enough volume to make it a solid well rounded workout.
[thumb]https://db.tt/u5V7HItM[/thumb] 3 month progress Lifting, Diet, Tanning, Sleeping, Haircut, Bathroom construction.
This stuff is motivating as fuck for others. Good work!
I don't really do pushups as a means of getting fit myslef, so I may be wrong, but I think 10 pushups over 4 months is very poor progress. Kudos for putting in the effort, but I think you might be going about it the wrong way.
I wouldn't be surprised. I mean, when I started I didn't do ANY kind of research on good/proper workouts, or do ANYTHING to change my diet. I didn't even own any weights until last month maybe.
Just stumbled apon some interesting weightlifting spreadsheets. Some new ones apparently were added. I think I might just give one a try. They are based off of cycles from the Catalyst weightlifting website
^^I just discovered catalyst athletics a few days ago, I tried downloading some of their routines but they were all corrupted word docs, thanks for that m8.
I wouldn't be surprised. I mean, when I started I didn't do ANY kind of research on good/proper workouts, or do ANYTHING to change my diet. I have a slight six pack but no "V" above my crotch. Why is this? My guess is that its because I have big abdominals without having that low of a body fat percentage.
I have a slight v despite a bit of a gut, I'm not sure if it's like genetic or not. Would doing some lower ab exercises perhaps have an impact on it?
Thats not 8 months total, its 8 months broken up over the 2+ years, which is arguably worse. It included hurting my shoulder, breaking my ribs on two separate occasions and hyperextending my elbow. My starting stats were Bench 50kgx5 Squat 40kgx5 (used to do push ups and shit but never trained legs outside the occasional run) Deadlift 60x1 OHP 30x10 @67kg/ 148lb
Hella decent progress dude especially considering the injury time. Putting 100kg on your deadlift isn't easy in the slightest. It's weird, I've been training more or less the same amount of time as you (1 and a bit years properly), same maxes too, just that instead of starting at skeletal mode I was fatasfat mode :v:
I have a slight v despite a bit of a gut, I'm not sure if it's like genetic or not. Would doing some lower ab exercises perhaps have an impact on it?
The lowest ones are those that depends most on your diet.
[thumb]https://db.tt/u5V7HItM[/thumb]
Jees looking slim man well done. Pretty shady in that bathroom though. Seriously though thats' pretty hectic, good job brah
I have a slight v despite a bit of a gut, I'm not sure if it's like genetic or not. Would doing some lower ab exercises perhaps have an impact on it?
What's weirder is that I'm not completely flat (tiniest bit of flesh; my wife thinks it's just excess skin), yet my abs are visible (if you comb by body hair to look thinner, or if I wear a really tight shirt).
Disregard that post because being higher than parallel is fine. Biggest thing is having the legs bent and back at an angle instead of parallel to the ground. I don't know why it still looks so funky to me. Guess I just watch too many oly lift videos as I said in that other post.....they always bellow parallel at the start of a lift. Unless they actually do a deadlift, like so:
I see what you mean though, when you start the lift below parallel even if the bars not coming off the ground it does look more conventional in a sense
What's your guys's opinions on various forms of dips? Been running in to a lot of people lately telling me they're pointless and will just fuck up your shoulders, but I've always found them to be quite a good workout compliment.
Hey facepunch, is there anyone here with a lean build and high metabolism that can give me any advice on building mass? It has always seemed like no matter what I do, i cant gain any damn weight, which always ends up killing my motivation and generally keeps me inconsistent. Honestly any advice would be much appreciated, i'm moving to boston at the end of may and begining my first year of college in september, and want to do my best to make a new me beforehand.
I smash my head on my ceiling when doing muscle-ups. What can do to replace muscle-ups?
I smash my head on my ceiling when doing muscle-ups. What can do to replace muscle-ups?
Do pull-ups and dips separately? It's not rocket science. Just look in this thread in fast threads about what people have ate that day, and most of them skipped breakfast. They try to make up for it by having those two meals be huge ones but overall their calorie intake is at or below per day maintenance levels, and so they think 'hmm must be that high metabolism'. make an effort to have breakfast, a decent meal between lunch and dinner and another meal after dinner before you go to bed. Five meals right there. Liquid calories like protein shakes are good too especially if you dont feel like you could eat any more. Oh yeah, having a meal straight after a workout will help plenty and there you go, six meals. If you're trying to put on weight make sure you minimise unnecessary cardio activities. Eg don't go for a ten kilometre bike ride every day.
Do pull-ups and dips separately? It's not rocket science.
Well, at least that's what I've doing. Weighted, of course. I was hoping there was something more convenient.
Well, at least that's what I've doing. Weighted, of course. I was hoping there was something more convenient.
Cut a hole in your ceiling the size of your head. What could possibly go wrong.
I don't know why it took this post to make me realize this, THAT'S why I haven't made huge weight gains, I haven't eaten breakfast in years. Ending that habit tomorrow!
Not sure if serious
when ppl say breakfast is the most important meal of the day its not a joke
Renegade rows are the hardest fucking thing. My whole body hurts.
I had a decent FB convo today with this sexy crossfit gal. I wanna talk with her a few more times before I decide if I wanna ask her out, but my mind is staying optimistic. Some of her posts is the typical facepalm-worthy crossfit motivational stuff, but she seems alright. I guess Idk if I'll be able to stand her subpar fitness knowledge though....well maybe not subpar (going by her great physique) but knowing crossfit I know something stupid/wrong will be said thanks to terrible misinformation. You guys have experience dating crossfit/bodybuilding/etc. girls?
Speaking of breakfast, I would like to diversify a bit more. Eggs and oatmeal are obvious choices, but what are some other good choices that you guys eat? You guys have experience dating crossfit/bodybuilding/etc. girls?
I've never dated a woman who was really into bodybuilding, but I would say be a little cocky (in a joking/charming way, not outright douche way because she's probably used to guys like that.) and if you embarrass yourself at the gym, just look at her and giggle at the fact that you embarrassed yourself. I don't know why, but almost every time I've laughed at myself after doing something embarrassing, any woman that I'm talking to starts flirting with me here and there, which often results in my wife teasing me about it afterward if she's around. Also work out with her frequently, but occasionally be "too busy" to give the impression that you're a guy with a lot of things going on in your life and that you can't just be summoned whenever. Have a good balance between that and taking time to bond with her. Also, if you can get her to try to convince you to stay around a little longer, that's great. Also, this is a bonus if you're somewhat confident, if there are non-pervy ways that you can physically touch her to help her with something, physical contact creates emotional bonds between people. If you're not doing it to be creepy, getting too much joy out of it or just doing it too much, it probably won't creep her out and it will probably work in your favor. Also, don't try too hard to show off your body, a lot of guys she knows probably do that and she's probably sick of it. Another thing you could do is tease her for her form when both of you know her form is just fine to get her to giggle and say "Shut up!," "Whatever!" or "Oh really?" in a giggly way. Don't try that if she's too insecure though; those types of flirtatious teases should never actually be hurtful or demeaning. I think you're in a pretty good situation.
