okay what the fuck am i the only one that can deadlift a damn decent number higher than their squat because it sure seems like the opposite for most people. i'd be mad jelly to squat 325
I've been lifting for 3 months and my Deadlift is at 235, while my squat is at 195, bench 135. I thought it was normal to have a stronger Deadlift than your squat?
Hey NOONE, or anybody that does oly lifting, how close is a persons opener in a competition to their max on that lift? [editline]3rd April 2015[/editline] I'm probably running too much of a defecit
I've heard your opener should be a weight you can absolutely nail no problem. What that is percentage wise Idk, maybe 95%. Even second lift, if first one is made, should still be a non PR. 3rd is when you don't hold back. Some decent guidelines
I dont think I want to cut yet, but say if I do, how well would this routine work? Three days per week: Day A Squats (3x5) Bench press (3x5) Bent-over rows (3x5) Good mornings (3x5) Overhead press (3x5) Wide-grip lat pulldowns (3x5) Day B Unilateral leg press (4x5) Decline bench press (3x5) Dumbbell rows (4x5) Deadlifts (1x5) Upright rows (3x5) Underhand lat pulldowns (3x5) So like it would go ABA one week and BAB the next, with full rest days between each workout day. Would those exercises target every muscle sufficiently and is that an appropriate volume?
Okay so like, I gave this a go. But I don't feel I work each muscle enough? Like I was doing my 5 rep max on bench press but after only 3 sets I still felt nothing so I went for a forth. I suppose I could feel squats and instead of reverse-grip pulldowns I did chin-ups and felt like after 3 sets that I couldn't do many more with full rom. [editline]4th April 2015[/editline] I have a horrible tendency to put too much pressure of the weight on my left leg during squats if anyone is curious as to why I do unilateral leg press.
okay what the fuck am i the only one that can deadlift a damn decent number higher than their squat because it sure seems like the opposite for most people. i'd be mad jelly to squat 325
I've never really fastidiously worked my deadlift. I was really surprised when I banged out 325 - I expected to fail at 2 and a half plates. Had I trained that like I trained my squat, it would probably be around ~400.
okay what the fuck am i the only one that can deadlift a damn decent number higher than their squat because it sure seems like the opposite for most people. i'd be mad jelly to squat 325
Are you a long-limbed, short-torsoed person? Proportions are a big reason for disproportional lifts either that or you neglected your squat

Until you get to professional-level powerlifters, when the squat overtakes the deadlift.
back with another "issue" LoL, i think i might've pulled a muscle fiber or a nerve in my forearms, cause it seems now when i do any sort've lifting with my arms i can feel a wierd sensation/slight pain in my forearms. i'm not sure if it was caused by doing barbell curls or any sort've curls. And the normal pump i get while doing my arms seems to be gone for whatever reason, i can see my arm muscles tense on the outside but on the inside i can very faintly feel a pump, i've researched it a bit and found out that it might have something to do with recovery, although it shouldn't be cause i've let my arms recover for quiet some time now.
Left for work for a month, only lifted 5 times which was hell comsidering I never miss but working 12h every day with no days off takes its toll. Thought I lost size and got fat, came back leaner and bigger! The first week of work did feel like nothing but solid growing considering before that I think I was at a month straight with 1 day off lifting. Everything is getting sore again! Would recommend to anyone not getting sore or getting unmotivated to take a week off. You may not like it but coming back feels great!
For any of you not busy this lovely Zombie Jesus Sunday, take the time to watch this: Really quite interesting, with bits of inspiration in there too! I've always wondered why you keep up this insane consistency when taking a day or two off, or even just decreasing the intensity a day or two, will do wonders.
Klokov is sexiest man alive [editline]5th April 2015[/editline] no homo [editline]5th April 2015[/editline] Irish weighlifting inter varsities were on this weekend, highest sinclair was 293, highest total was 255. I think I could compete in the 85kg class next year if I pick up a more oly focused program.
If only I could be half the man Klokov is. I'd still be p. big.
Klokov is such an inspiration really makes me wish I picked up oly-style weightlifting as a kid
I think we all wish we picked up weightlifting as a kid lmao why the fuck I didn't focus on certain interests wayyy more IDK! Fuck I could have gotten in to karting or some shit....I was big in to cars when I was little (still am), and I have this wild dream of racing cars at Le Mans and the Nurburgring. But I really have no real experience, or money, so racing is a bit of a pipedream. The Olympics became my next obsession, but that too is a far stretch seeing as I started in my 20s. I could have gotten in to lifting instead of Karate at 16, but nope. Anyway, enough of my bitching Klokov is da man but Lu Xiaojun is the one who makes me go crazy.
I wish I stuck with it, not to say that I'm completley out of it. 2 years ago as a senior in highschool I was cleaning 340lbs and snatching 250lbs. Thanks to a shit collegiate weightlifting program I have stalled on ALL my lifts, including bench, and some lifts have actually gone down. I'm making some drastic changes in regards to my college athletic career in the following month to remedy this, for better or worse.
I wish I had started lifting in grade 10 when I got to my new school, it would've helped to make friends as I didnt have many that year, also would've helped with football among other numerous things. Maybe my outcome would've been different, I dont know, all I know is i'm fortunate I started, happy of where its taken me, and proud with who I've become as a result of it.
I wish I didn't stall. Started at 15 with some simple stuff like legcurls and benchpress. at 17 I trained pretty much every bodypart several times a week but I got too depressed and I ate like shit. Now when near 21 I'm gaining weight at a good rate and gaining muscles. Weighed like 57kg last year and now almost at 70kg. My goal is 80kg late summer or early fall. For me my mental health goes first and body second because if I feel like shit then I might fuck up with training. I avoided this thread because I felt shit when I saw someone with muscles and thought for myself "Damn it I'm jellous why don't I have that body" Now I feel happy for others success and mirin' because I know I might make it in the future.
finally reached the 3 plate squat club. 140kg may not be much but it means a lot to me. :') it's weird how on some days you just feel significantly stronger than others. i barely ever try squatting 130kg because i can barely do 6 reps, but today i managed 8 reps of 130 and 6 reps of 140 (2 assisted). my legs are so mysterious.
did my first full body strength workout in months and then immediately threw up from overexertion the puke is the weakness leaving my body, now i have more powers to gain
Yeah, the puke is also useful nutrients leaving your body. You may want to do things decently. Or join a CrossFit gym.
I know. It's because my body wasn't used to the work, I get like that when beginning a program. It should be the only time. I'm going to take it a bit easier next time, be more careful on the warmup and take longer breaks between sets.
This cut blows. Went over to lady friend's house and cooked french toast for breakfast. That, a poppyseed muffin, an espresso, a protein bar, a sandwich, and some eggs are all I've eaten today in addition to my protein shake and I've already hit my calorie goal for the day. I hate being hungry all the time but I need dem abs
Would having short cuts then short bulks be effective? I don't want to risk getting too skinny again and lately my wife has been getting horny whenever she looks at my arms. So what should I do?
I found a long time ago that coffee helps with controlling hunger. Just be light on the milk and sugar.
honestly I can't really do cuts FOOD AND GAINS ARE JUST TOO GOOD
I found a long time ago that coffee helps with controlling hunger. Just be light on the milk and sugar.
I pound 2 cups in the morning, usually with a lot of low fat creamer though. Black coffee is shit
when do i cut i started at 120 lb / 54.4 kg, now I'm 150 lb / 68 kg but my bf% has gone up quite a bit (although all my lifts have gone up too) so yeah when do i cut or do i just keep going or
I have enough discipline give up anything in the service of my body, I just don't know what I'm doing most of the time. However, I did manage to gain 10 pounds of muscle without increasing my bodyfat percentage in 6 months using only bodyweight exercises.
this is in a 5 month timespan so 30 lbs is quite considerable for the timespan i think [editline]7th April 2015[/editline] whoops broken automerge
How tall are you? [editline]6th April 2015[/editline] And 30lbs in 5 months isn't much. That's 1.5 pounds per week, most people shoot for 1-2 lbs per week, so you're on target.
honestly I can't really do cuts FOOD AND GAINS ARE JUST TOO GOOD
What's your bodyfat percentage?
