I'd argue both, there is the pull movement but you do push through your legs. Well actually it's a full-body exercise so it's kind of an awkward one.
i'll just do em both days B) nah i'll actually deadlift on pull day so i can squat heavy on leg day
Full body everyday is the best way to run a 3 day split, fuk da h8rs. Do 1 push, 1 pull and 1 leg movement each day, and some assistance on top of that. [editline]28th April 2015[/editline] I know that means its not a split but its the best way of doing it because your working every muscle 3 days a week for decent volume/ intensity each day.
i'm doing a full body thing too it's fun
gonna throw in some forearm sets on the pull day too because
Same here for full body every day. Always sore and having fun. I do some sort of leg thing every secomd day but that depends on how work goes because wearing steel toes in the mud all day is a pretty good workout in itself. Do you guys read bodybuilding magazines? I do every now and themn and save some interesting things [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/FFF27517-4069-476C-A435-EE46167C872C_zpszggtdb22.jpg[/thumb] Tried this today, was beast.
Floor press. Superset with pushups. If I can do flys and incline press on the tailgate of a truck, you can find a way to do the same. Flat surface with a small inclined surface for your back to rest on. Heck, on the floor with something behind your back. Get creative, your at home so you may feel dumb, but nobody is there to judge you and you gotta get dose gains some how
Never thought of an incline press. How did you do it off the tailgate of a truck? Did you have any support for your back or what?
If you only have 3 days to workout but are free for 2 hours full body is the way to go You'll have enough time per session to work your whole body and enough rest periods between the days to let your full body recover You'll want at least 48hrs of rest for the muscle group worked out, so keep that in mind. Potentially more if its particularly strenuous. Prevents injury and makes it so you can actually build muscle vs just tearing them up all the time. In a full body day, you'd need that 48 hours after each workout before doing the next one.
Life is suddenly boring when you don't get to shovel down food constantly throughout the day I never realized how much fun eating is
Oh god I bought some new joggers and didn't realise they were the elastic type. I'm like [t]http://i.imgur.com/cb18UHg.jpg[/t] Not going to bother returning them seeing as they were put through for £1 for some reason...

Just sat on the tailgate and layed back.
This guy was on a split routine, that's a year's worth of progress. Is that proof that SL5x5 and other compound exercise dominant routines are much better for beginners than jumping into a split? I dunno if this is broscience but I was told ages ago that doing a split as a beginner is a waste, due to your low strength. I heard it's better to build up strength via compound exercises, and then when you're lifting heavy, do a split routine. Right, wrong, I dunno.
I did a 5 day split with only the odd sunday off for my first year and went from 160-175 (in that range) to 200 pretty quick, and its only this year that I've gone to impulsive full body every day (kinda my own creation, works wicked). I dont remember what I did for a year, I think it was like a impulsive 3 day split no rest days, I changed my shit a bunch, never settled on one thing. Anyways. The point is you could do a split, a compound routine, or my madness, and you'll still see a lot of progress if you stick to it and make sure your just breaking yourself every day. That guy probably killed it and ate really good. A kind of rule I follow is I usually come to the gym feeling small, insecure, pretty down (mainly at new gyms, or if i feel extra small), and by the time I leave im oozing confidence, happiness, power, and feel like I'm everything I want to be. If I try to leave, or think of leaving before I feel like that I come up with some way to punish myself. Extra set, something I dont want to do, shit like that.
Thats kind of the thing innit, your routine doesnt matter too much, what matters is consistancy and hard work.
gotta put the reps in if you want them gainz
Getting nervous about competing, competition (mens physique) in october, ill have to cut hard two month prior but that isnt bad. Whats really getting me is all the things you have to do on stage, act confident, present yourself/advertize/market, pose, hope I can find a good trainer. Also not looking forward to leaning out, idk, im pretty happy where I am right now because I feel huge n stuff and im able to eat enough to still grow, but being cut would be pretty fun with all the definition and showing it off. If I keep gaining like I do and my cut goes well, from a physical standpoint I have a good chance I'd say. But from actually performing that'll be the dealbreaker.
guys, I'm one of those unfortunate long-femured people even doing high-bar I still have to do a goodmorning every time I squat should I switch to front squats instead?
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=160995431 change the way your doing high bar squats
isn't that thread about low-bar squats tho?

Right, wrong, I dunno.
You can do compound exercises with a split and as a matter of fact most good ones incorperate them I think a split is more effective than SL5X5 overall, but the biggest benefit of SL5X5 is that it teaches you to focus only on the most important lifts that you really should get good at. This is super important because your split sucks if you can't do compound movements properly. The other advantage of SL5X5 is that it takes less time to do (good for beginners) and yet you'll see great results from it if you are a beginner as well. SL5X5 is less effective if you are experienced since it simply isn't going to give you the results you'd otherwise get if you were new at lifting.
How long should I do SL5X5? My main goal isn't really to get huge/jacked, I want a good amount of muscle, sure, but I think my ideal body size would be a lot less fat and a decent amount of muscle, no more muscle than say the guy in the above picture. I'd say my goal would be more like total body fitness/practical strength rather than having the biggest muscles possible.

I wanna be Mr Triangle, so I can pop babies out between my child-bearing hips
After slacking off with my food for a couple of months I'm gonna start properly cutting again. I'm gonna do more cardio and watch my food again. The thing I'm worried about is that I won't get enough protein per day since I eat with my family and don't have alot of control over what I get for dinner. (I just watch how much I eat and try to eat more meat/vegetables then carbs) So my question is would proteine shakes help out even while I'm trying to lose weight and retain muscle or should I just eat at a deficit?
But where is Mr. X frame?

Ie, if you make no progress on your lifts for 2 or more weeks I'd consider a different program. Ideally you'll stay on it for a few months and make the best gains of your life. Dont worry about getting big muscles m8, you never will. As you gain muscle your expectations adapt too so it never really feels like your getting big. I went from 160 - 200lb and I dont feel all that much bigger, even tho most my m8s will say I'm built. [editline]29th April 2015[/editline]
isn't that thread about low-bar squats tho?
Yea, you should probably stick with high bar though instead of going for front squats. Front squats dont work the hips enough to be your main squatting exercise. Though I suppose you could throw some RDL's in after to balance things out. Probably because SL doesnt have you doing enough lat work, easy way to fix it is throw in a few sets of pull ups on whatever day your not doing barbell rows.
