How do you guys decide when to cut? Also does being in calories deficit make you perform more poorly during workouts or is there no difference?
Cut when you feel fat. Well I already feel fat but I'm gonna keep on bulking up till perhaps late August so I'll have three months to cut for summer. Yeah generally you shouldn't expect good performance when you're cutting, some of your lifts might even decline.
Worst thing about bulking is having to take three dumps per day, and therefore clean the toilet three times per day.
Like, skinny fat or just plain fat?
Well at the moment it's definitely skinny fat for me but it doesn't bother me too much because it's not like I'm going to be walking around without a shirt on in the middle of winter. No point for me cutting yet because I'd probably have a cut finished by September, like two full months before summer.
I've struggled with this for a while but you really just need to choose something and stick with it. I don't care I can't really see my abs anymore, no one's going to be seeing them anyways even if I did have them visible so I'm just gonna pack on the kilos until the weather starts warming up.

Anyone have any opinions on JM press as a mass-builder for triceps?
I was confused until I noticed your flag :v:
Even the seasons are upside-down here
Fuck I think I pulled both my pecs
Definitely not a tear or a major pull at that cause I still have most of my range of motion, but they hurt badly while benching so I had to stop, even driving back home was painful. Sucks because I was meant to go for a max today, see where I'm at, but I'd rather need rest for 3-4 days than 3-4 weeks. Hopefully it gets better soon and I can see where my bench has gotten

Well I ain't going to the beach anytime soon so I guess I'll just keep on bulking for a while. I like gains, however slight they may be for the time being, and something tells me I won't find cutting as satisfying (especially if it means no evolution strength-wise).
fuck man it's crazy to think that a year ago i could barely DL 1pl8 and bench pressed 65lbs and was absolutely exhausted after and now i'm at 3pl8 DL and 155 for a working set of 8 reps for bench

its really not that hard to make your body adapt and strengthen up
the only issue is diet + consistency, which is surprisingly hard if you're a college student
size has almost nil to do with strength

the WLers at my gym look small as fuck too because they need to fit into a weight class
doesn't stop them from jerking my deadlift
you see the problem here is then we get into the debate of what is strength. is some manlet really stronger than me because he moves 300lbs 5 inches, whereas I can only move 250 lbs 10 inches.
strength is relative brah.

THE BEAT GO OFF?
guy in vid is 6'0 tho
but yeah proportions and height do play a big role
no one really cares about it though, if you go to some comp/meet and tell them you actually won because you had more ROM, you'll be laughed out of the room

Thanks for the JM press idea. I've been looking for a good way to push strength on triceps. A lot of exercises I know for it don't really let me do that too well except weighted dips, which are annoying to deal with.

Going out to eat with friends is your worst enemy. Right next to college assignments.

im talking about actual strength brah, like applicable power. I realize this lol, this is why manlets dominate the powerlifting/ oly lifting circuits. I can't even talk shit I'm only 5'11 but yeah, wasn't even talking about the fucker in the video. guys also only decent at deadlifting.

What kinda bar is that?
So I stopped dieting after 6 months cause fuck lifting the same weight for 6 months. I eat like shit and I feel great. All my lifts are going up again. Dieting while still in dyel mode is pretty dumb to begin with. Never gain.

This is actually a fair point, thinking about it they should probably add a height class to power/ weightlifting but I cant see that ever happening.
One of my mates from football is the same weight as me, we've both been lifting ~2 years but he's about 6 inches shorter and his max squat is 35kg more because of dat there bio mechanical advantage
you lads must be tired of seeing people complain about gaining weight but BOY i just can't seem to break past 76kg. just sort of plateau'd recently and it sucks.
on a good note i managed to get a new pb in squats. last week it was 4 reps of 160kg. then today i did 6 reps of 160kg then some stupid, over-confident force inside me told me to try 180kg. pushed out 3 reps with no help (!!). at the cost of sounding humblebrag-y i'm just excited to see so much change in my leg strength this year. legs have always been my weakest point and i always received light-hearted banter for it. of course i didn't care but i'd be lying if i said the banter didn't make me lift infinitely harder.

also my gym's facebook posted this the other day

feels like christmas came early. i'm gonna do a big cum to celebrate this news.
they're gonna remove all the squat racks
smith machines only
I don't think I'll ever be able to step into a gym without oly platforms anymore
WL lifts are just too fun
So I broke my bench plateau but I just stepped into a new one. At the highest weight last time I wasn't getting full range of motion. I mean that the angle of my forearm relative to my forearm went beyond 90 degrees by a bit, probably got to 60 degrees but still more than a few inches off my chest. Next time I bench, should I stay at that weight and aim to improve rom and reps or increment the weight?
they're gonna remove all the squat racks

fuck
So when do you stop deadlifting?
I think I enjoyed myself too much on monday
Still kinda sore
Increased my PR for squats again. Up to 120 kg now. Aiming for 140 by the end of the year so I can finally say I am 4/3/2/1
Just to be clear, what's stopping me from alternating between bulking and cutting every week?

Leeman loves the texas deadlift bar, so I'm assuming it's that one

the thing is with taller people you have a greater cross sectional area of the muscle, which means a greater overall power output compared to a shorter person. I'm not sure if this is less than, equal to, or greater than the effect a decreased ROM gives you though
[editline]12th July 2015[/editline]
Honestly I would assume greater than, because if you look at all of the strongmen they're almost exclusively above 6 foot 2, the only one I personally know of (in WSM) below 5'10" is darren sadler and he didn't even make it to a podium finish

Nothing really, you'll still make gains if you train hard. I've heard good things about short term bulk cut cycles, say 4 weeks bulk, 2 weeks cut.
I'm having success at the minute with just eating maintenance calories with a shit load of protein, roughly 3000 calories, 200g+ protein. Havent gained or lost even a pound in 2 months but all my lifts have gone up.

Here's a poorly lit picture

Ok, did some measurements and tried out some maxes this past weekend, here's what i'm currently sitting on(also im convinced metric is vastly superior to imperial scale)
Height: 5'7 / 170cm
Weight: 168 lbs/76kg
BF%: roughly 19-20%
bent press: 230 lbs/104 kg
squat: 265 lbs/120 kg
deadlift: N/A
overhead press: 145 lbs/70kg
for not going to the gym for roughly 4-5 months, i've only lost about 5-10 pounds off all my lift maxes, which is pretty nice. my endurance has fallen quite a bit, which is to be expected, but overall i'm reasonably pleased with how well i've kept my strength. squat's still relatively low compared to everything else but meh.
not sure if i should bulk or cut now, though. maybe attempt slow leangains

nice fucking core brah, i'm jelly no homo
man, lifting is really psychological isn't it
fail OHP set, sit down on a bench, angrily bitch and moan to myself for a while, eventually get so fucking hyped up I nearly sprint to the bar and set a new PR

could also be slightly CNS based -- the initial set might have prepped your CNS to fire more responsively on top of your mental rage strength boost. gr8 job m8
