Do some negatives for a while and you'll bounce back up

sounds like the average commercial 'gym' for people who want to 'get in shape' in 2 months and then gain it all back a week after quitting
look for a powerlifting or weightlifting gym
Is anybody else really shit at dips? I can't even do 1. Like I go down and then I just loose all power and can't go back up.
Dips are like mid air pushups. Did you try leaning forward more to use your chest to lift up? Maybe your triceps need work? Back?

Mine only has two. We don't really have a designated area for deadlifting either, no platforms or mats because it's on a second floor right above a montessori school. So even if we do deadlifts or cleans, we can't outright drop it lest we want to collapse the floor above a bunch of toddlers.

The photographer was standing in the corner of the room, right behind him is a little hallway with cubbees where we can stick our stuff. Coziest little gym ever. That's taken during 'rush hour'
Dips are one of my easiest exercise for some reason, I haven't worked out in like months because of health problems and I can still do sets of 15 dips @ 230 lbs without breaking a sweat.

Also dips are middle of the road for me, haven't done them in a while because i've been focusing on bench and pause bench etc mostly but I could do sets of 8 or so at ~85 kg
I cant do dips worth shit either, maybe I could get 8 at a push but I'd be struggling. I can bench a decent amount tho.
I think I might start training them more when I'm back in college, let them take over as my main chest exercise when I switch to a full oly program.
So uh, what is a good way of getting lean and muscular, without getting too bulky?
Lifting heavy weights and sucking off big burly men
I feel like an idiot now, but why is that question so funny?
I feel like an idiot now, but why is that question so funny?
Getting muscular implies adding weight (muscleweight) which is what many would consider 'bulking.' Lean is more towards cutting which is often seen as the exact opposite of bulking because the intent is to lose weight.
You mean to cut fat and gain muscle, using 'lean' and 'bulk' can lead to fitness paradox.
nah you just sound like one of those people who think they'll get "too big"
as if they'll turn into Arnold fucking Schwarzenegger overnight
doesn't work like that i'm afraid
Out of curiosity, what do you guys eat when you're trying to gain? Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner, just curious to take a poll of this thread and see what everyone is cooking and eating.

Oh shit yeah, that was pretty stupid.
What I was trying to say is, you've got these people who are really really bulky, like their arms look more fat than actually muscular, but when they flex/do something then you actually see their muscles. Is that because of body fat percentage?
And I know I won't get too big one night, but I'd just hate it if after months of exercise my arms look more fat than actually muscular.
You can't put on muscle without putting on fat. The idea behind 'getting lean' is you want to bulk up to build your muscle, then go on a cut to lose the fat you've put on. The people you refer to who look more fat than muscular are most likely power lifters or strong men who don't necessarily lift to look hot, or they could be people right in the middle or near the end of a bulk. Or, if their back is completely flat, they might not even do back exercises because who wants to waste time on muscles you can't see in the mirror right bruh

I'm pretty sure the majority here is generally eating healthy stuff
I just eat when I'm hungry 5-6 times a day, works great for me.
I can't be bothered to measure shit when I'm trying to gain weight
So uh, what is a good way of getting lean and muscular, without getting too bulky?
In all seriousness, this a good guide for what you want

Hey, what's the best way to build strenght and get into lifting. Also I'm a noob and don't have access to weights.
140 kg skwaaaat for 4 sets of 3, then 145 for 2, so I'm already getting a double on my pb. Deads tomorrow gonna try 175 for 5 sets of 3
Also any of you fuckers know how much you max would go up from a free weight squat to a smith machine squat (if at all)? Don't want to try it just curious

Guys we really need a sticky
Nah I never lean forward doing dips but il try it. I don't think its my triceps, I think they are okay. Might just be my weight because I used to be super fat before going gym, and still have a bit of weight to loose
man push presses are so damn fun
was planning to leave as usual but stayed for another 30min just to do more sets

I can barely even do that shit on the edge of my bathtub. Lack of strength for the win.
Also the guy that linked that beginner's health & fitness guide - Thanks. I'm reading through the mentality part and I like it.

Discipline, patience and will is like 80% of getting the body you want.
Also, I take two scoopa C4 to get going for the gym and throw in a single scoop during gym. Too much or is that typical?

I don't take any pre-workout, I'm worried about becoming reliant on it. For the time being I just try to motivate myself. If I'm feeling really sluggish before going, sometimes I'll have a banana or apple.
Also on the topic of dips, I was struggling to do between 6 and 10 at bodyweight. One day I just tried doing weighted dips and to my surprise I was able to grind out a few with a 25 lbs plate on.
A week later and I was using a 45 plate and doing 3x6. Now I can do 20+ dips at bodyweight. Never underestimate the power of shocking your body into adapting by trying something new.
I can knock out 20-25 at bodyweight before my palms start to hate me.

The good news is if you are new you can generally put on muscle despite being in a cut
I.E. if you are on a small cut (not a major one) you'll slowly lose fat at the same time building muscle if your diet isn't garbage and you are working out.
[editline]26th July 2015[/editline]
Experienced lifters pretty much need to bulk then cut though to gain muscle and have that gained muscle "show" in an attractive way
This is what I want, right? I try to avoid dairy for a lot of reasons (reason to get Whey Isolate, right?), and I need to get a reliable intake of protein going on.

Thanks for posting this by the way. So far it seems like a pretty clean cut, basic overview of things I need to know. Browsing reddit's fitness subreddits is very... complex. I don't know the acronyms and most of the guys there are already enthusiasts. Same here, too. I've been working out for a few months but I still don't really know what I'm doing. This should help.

You should be fine with that brand, I have that tub as well right next to ISOPURE.
In reality, it really is all just marketing, just look at whether it's whey or whey-isolate on the label and be wary of 'snake oil' ingredients or trademarked crap or phrases like "muscle fuel" or "insta-rip'd" or etc.

Mmk, just ordered the 2lb tub for starts.
Unrelated question: I'm starting to notice slight difference in my left vs my right [del]biceps[/del] upper arm in general (?). Thankfully it's only noticable when I'm working out and all puffy, and as far as I can tell it's my only lopsided gain so far, but I'm concerned. I'm right handed and the right is bigger.
I've been doing only bodyweight since I started, and I noticed this about a week ago. Should I simply focus on perfecting my form, maybe doing slightly less work for a while? Or...I have dumbbells; should I work my left a little bit extra with a dumbbell (obvious issue being that I don't know what exactly to do and I've never done dumbbells before)?
holy shit i know it's a well known fact but after you take fish oil for a long period of time your skin shines like crazy
my hairy peach colored legs glisten beautifully under the light
