• Why must people be the first to like something?

I was one of the first, if not the first person to listen to Opeth in my school and now quite a bit of people listen to them. Do I act like a stuck-up douche because of it? No. In fact I was the one who told some people about them.
Thinking Ska is underground or is even good is funny.
What the fuck are you talking about. Ska is fucking awesome. It's semi-underground, there's always the select few people who actually listen to ska, I love it. It's upbeat and fun.
Bands often start changing their music when they get popular... I hate that!
Why do people think they have to be the first to comment on a youtube video? Because they're pricks.

I love Less Than Jake's older music so much. Hello Rockview is a good album.
I usually only like bands after everyone else has finished with them. I'll think that it's some overhyped shit, and when I listen to it after a while I'll enjoy it... and everyone else has moved on to some other overhyped shit.
i like finding a band (that are actually good) that nobody i know has heard of, and then when i tell people about them and they start liking them, i have someone to talk about that band with my friends aren't the kind of retards that say "yeah i love x" and only know one song. if they learn of a good band they listen to their whole discography most of the time edit: recent example; i learned about infected mushroom from the GMF music thread not long ago, and now a few of my friends love them
Ditto, but his band I listen to, Charm City Devils, probably doesn't even have their album in stores yet, though I can listen to 2 songs on Youtube. Listen to them, they're actually not that bad, they played at Cruefest 2. Other little known bands I like are The Last Vegas and Airbourne, although I think Airbourne's more popular because one of their videos has LEMMY FUCKING KILMEISTER in it.
With the whole changing their sound and selling out thing. I'd just like to say that some fans are dumb. And I'm willing to bet the ones who say that kind of stuff are not musicians themselves or just very closeminded people. A band doesn't want to play the same music all the time, sometimes they want to try something else and there is no problem with that. Half the time, if their "sell out" album was made by some new band no one had heard of before it'd be liked. Some people just hate change. Metallica's Black Album for example, as mentioned earlier. If it were the debut album of some new band I'm willing to bet a lot of the fans who gave it bad reviews would think completely different. Just my two pence.
Because you'll like an unpopular band because of the sound of their music, some more people will, then at a certain point it becomes "scene" to like that particular band and you get a bunch of twink dickheads with pink lens-less glasses "liking" the band because other people like the band. You ask them what song they like and it's the most popular song, and the only one the person knows. :fuckoff:
The "Scene" culture is just an evolution from the deceased Post-Hardcore scene that died in the 90s, not a permanent group of people. What you said does have a point, but it's not the scene kids, it's more along the lines of "the kids that are buying into Hot Topic at the time."
You're talking about Blakk Mettall. And that's because Blakk Metall is Kvlt. :colbert: (:black101:)
U guise

Metallica has made a pretty damn big change in their music style. They were pretty badass thrash metal back with Kill 'em all and ride the lightning, then they gradually changed to where they are now basically hard rock.
What kind of giant rock could someone who doesn't know what Ska is be living under?

I more mean kids who follow what is "scene" at the time. [editline]12:00AM[/editline]
What kind of giant rock could someone who doesn't know what Ska is be living under?
I knew the vague meaning of Ska. Don't really know what the specifics of the music are. Always pictured it as sounding a bit like Reggae(?) or Visa Versa. Do I live under a rock? :saddowns:

Wait i thought reggae was already upbeat, how does one get more upbeat than upbeat :derp:
Wait i thought reggae was already upbeat, how does one get more upbeat than upbeat :derp:
With lots of drugs. Lots.
I love Less Than Jake's older music so much. Hello Rockview is a good album.
Anthem was okay. What sucks about ska is one band will sound good, but have no variation, it's always a hit or miss, there's never just a so-so ska song.
Well obviously no on would care because it wouldn't be the original band changing their sound to something different.
And yet people insist on comparing every new release to past releases by the band. I wish that people would just listen to the music for the music itself and not for the name of the band.

Reading reviews on Cynic's Traced in Air and In Flames's Come Clarity aggravate me to no end, because they're all compared to the bands' previous albums.
I'm probably the only one who listens to jazz in my whole school :smug:
I'm probably the only one who listens to jazz in my whole school :smug:
Wow, good for you. :colbert:
I'm probably the only one who listens to jazz in my whole school :smug:
You're probably not. Often people who like Jazz (and it's the same with Classical too) won't admit it freely because it's not 'cool'.
You're probably not. Often people who like Jazz (and it's the same with Classical too) won't admit it freely because it's not 'cool'.
Wait, if no ones into it, then it's cool. I listen to jazz. :smug:. I'm so cool now.
i dont give a shit if people start liking music i was into first with a few exceptions. muse goddamnit
Simple. Some people really just don't want to be seen as a bandwagoner.
Call me naive but in my opinion the mainstream music industry has no idea what sounds good to my ears. You get some rare gems that are played on the radio somewhat, but in general it's shite.

He's talking mostly about how the hipster crowd is all uptight about when you knew a band - namely before they got big - so they can feel better about themselves by being pretentious assholes with no point in their lives. Sure there are jokes about certain bands like this (See: Pre-Black Album Metallica, Pre St. Anger Metallica, etc...), but the OP is referring to people who really take themselves seriously when they do shit like this.
