Honestly I think people should stop whinging about the "golden" past and look into the future of music. Things can only get better, but only if you look in the right places places :v:
Fucking agree'd!
I am glad so many people can see from my point of view, I mean I love classic rock, but it's time to move on.
I knew that when I was about 12 or 13
you are glad people agree with you? crazy

This guy too, The Toxic Avenger.
Thom Yorke (Radiohead)
but there's a lot more but i'm kinda lazy
For metal I'd have to say Marten Hagstrom, but when it comes to jazz Wes Montgomery stole my heart.
Ben Weinman
Dave Grohl
He plays so many genres.
And he recorded the entire first Foo Fighters album by himself. Every instrument. He also did not put forward any of his songs in Nirvana because he did not want to ruin the chemistry. I respect that.
So yes, Dave Grohl is my favorite.
Steve Wilson.

Literally every project that this man lends his talents to turns to gold. I can't think of a single musical thing he was involved in that wasn't in some way amazing.
Roy Khan, vocalist for Kamelot. His classically trained voice is like butter and his lyrics really appeal to me.
Another favourite is Susumu Hirasawa, a Japanese electro composer. All his songs have very distinct sounds and his voice is like an instrument itself.

Fucking love Roy Khan. Him, Tobias (Edguy), and Bruce Dickinson are my favorite male singers of all time.

And don't forget the Metal God himself.
I really can't pick out a favorite musician in any genre.
Except for maybe Marvin Gaye :3:
Im gonna have to say my absolute favorite is Devin Townsend, I'm pretty sure the man pisses excellence. (If you havent heard him, do it right now)
Close ones are Michael Akerfeldt, Jari Mäenpää of wintersun, Steve Wilson for sure, as well as, of course, Cliff motherfuckin' Burton and John Entwistle
Nick Drake

lead singer of MGMT is pretty cool too
Nujabes, the... I don't know his style, since it's mixed. Also, he made great soundrack for Samurai Champloo.

And my favourites
Mikael Akerfeldt of Progressive Death Metal/Progressive Rock band Opeth

Tomi Joutsen of Progressive/Folk metal band Amorphis. His voice is SO FUCKING POWERFUL and he was voted best metal vocalist of 2009, I believe.

Dave Mustaine, lead vocalist/guitarist of Thrash metal band Megadeth

Petri Lindroos, lead guitarist & vocalist formerly of Melodic Death metal band Norther (he was the last original member, he got kicked out last year for devoting himself more to Ensiferum than Norther) and Folk/melodeath band Ensiferum

[editline]04:26PM[/editline]
Oh and Varg Vikernes of Black metal/Dark Ambient one man band Burzum. To be honest he's not really black metal (even he doesn't consider himself that, he thinks he's just a metal band. Which I agree with, since there's not, really, any other bands like him and he doesn't fall into any specific genre)
I also love his story. Anyone who knows about him will know what I mean. If you don't, I recommend going on burzum.org and reading it. interesting read. I don't know why, but I've always found people with problems more interesting than normal people. And Varg is most definitely not a normal person.

Chrigel Glanzmann of folk/melodic death metal band Eluveitie. He does vocals, mandola, acoustic guitar, tin & low whistles, uilleann pipes and gaita with them.

it's a FACT that rob halford is the metal god
Progressive/Folk metal band Amorphis.
progressive folk, wow
progressive folk, wow
Do I detect a hint of sarcasm?
Seriously though this band is FUCKING EVERYTHING :v:
Folk metal
melodic death metal
death metal
doom metal
gothic metal (possibly)
progressive metal
death/doom
Progressive Rock
What I reckon they fall under. They've went through 3 eras of style, with 3 different vocalists, each bringing their own to the band. You'd really need to listen to different stuff from different albums to get a feel of the band and how diverse they are.

I kind of dislike bands that do that, I mean just fucking pick a kind of music to play.
I mean, diversity is great and I respect that but sometimes it just gets out of hand.
And I hate to say this mikey, but Opeth are a huge culprit in that sense.
I don't know, I love how Opeth's stuff can go from jazz at times to death metal but sometimes you just need to draw a line
some people like diversity
ya racist
I agree. But I think Opeth know where that line is, and make a point to not cross it. Sure if they went from death metal to jazz/rock to techno to rap then I'd be like "wtf is this" but they don't. They change between two distinguishable styles. And it works. Well. It sounds good. Same for Amorphis, I mean they do sound different each time but they do have a sound which they stick to (their folk and melodeath sound has always been there, and still is)
And really the main reason Amorphis have changed so much is because of their different vocalists. The first era was with one vocalist, the second with another, and the current with this one (best one I reckon )
Right now, Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree (Progressive Rock/Metal).
