I kind of dislike bands that do that, I mean just fucking pick a kind of music to play.
I mean, diversity is great and I respect that but sometimes it just gets out of hand.
And I hate to say this mikey, but Opeth are a huge culprit in that sense.
I don't know, I love how Opeth's stuff can go from jazz at times to death metal but sometimes you just need to draw a line
Why? I mean I can respect sometimes you just want to listen to one style of music, but to me, TRUE diversity in music isn't really practised all too much. The closest I've heard is probably Between the Buried and Me, or maybe Three, but even then it's somewhat limited. To me I just don't see the harm in a song growing and moving into different genres, so long as it is well implemented (such as Opeth and afore-mentioned BTBAM)

I love Devin Townsend. His music is so varied as well. He goes from some of the heaviest shit ever conceived with Strapping Young Lad (City is considered one of THE heaviest albums of all time) to mellow, airy, relaxing progressive rock. He even has pop influences in a lot of his solo work. He's a brilliant musician, really creative and unique.
And of course Bruce Dickinson of Heavy Metal band Iron Maiden
My favourite musician is Steve Harris. Bruce isn't really the musician in the band as the gymnast, ok he can sing well and is a genius but I think Steve deserves the praise in that band filled with brilliant musicians.

Been listening to a lot of Eminem lately, so probably him.
Amon Tobin or Bonobo.
Both geniuses.
Musician - Guthrie Govan
Composer - Eric Whitacre or Mark Halcomb

Zack de la Rocha from Rage too, he's awesome. Puts so much into his live performances, great lyrics and great message. I hope to god I can see RATM one day.
Right now, Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree (Progressive Rock/Metal).
Steve Wilson has been my idol for about 3 years, he is THE musical genius of his generation. Although I also find Mikael Akerfeldt, Neal Morse, and John Petrucci pretty inspiring aswell.
I have a lot. But I mainly listen to: Queen, Pixies, Nirvana, The Mountain Goats, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Rick James (bitch), and The White Stripes.
[editline]01:03PM[/editline]
I forgot to mention R.E.M.
Jeff Buckley
Oh yeah forgot this guy.

Muhammed Suicmez of Necrophagist, guy is a fucking riff lord and wrote all of the album Epitaph and Onset of Putrefaction entirely on his own except for the song Symbiotic in Theory which was co wrote with the bands other guitarist.

Note that he is currently actively in all these bands.
I've also heard rumors that he also plays drums, but I don't think there's any released material with him on drums.
And of course, an obligatory picture:

Also, one last thing: these are only the bands he's full-time in. There are also various bands in which he does guest appearances, including Zonaria's Infamy and the Breed and Universum's upcoming sophomore album.
Matt Bellamy from Muse
