I disagree. You fall asleep within 15-20 minutes of going to bed, and three sleep cycles are spent solidifying dreams. WILD is basically defined as going lucid immediately after going to bed.
If you wake up and do it, it's not WILD it's WBTB.
WILD is going from awake to a lucid dream without anything in between. WBTB is just a specific technique to accomplish a WILD.

I thought you knew that REM doesn't start until a few hours after going to sleep.
[editline]27th June 2011[/editline]
So should I go to sleep and set my clock like 2-3 hours before I wake up, and then try WILDing?
For me the highest chance of success happens either
3-4 hours after going to sleep
or
~1 hour before waking up.

I've done WILD directly after falling asleep (and that's usually how I do it anyway). It's probably not the most effecient way, but it works for me.
I keep realizing I'm dreaming right as I'm waking up, but still in the dream.
It's really hard to get back into the dream from there.
Like last night I dreamt I was playing poker with my sister and cousins. I had 4 aces, and I managed to push 2 of them all-in, and I was super excited, but I started to wake up. I realize I was dreaming and tried to calm myself down to stay in the dream but I woke up.
I had a dream I was playing css jailbreak, only in real life, with real guns and shit. I was the warden. Everything was going fine until a female prisoner got lost and wandered down a hallway. a gaurd walked out and without a single word he shot her up with more holes than a damn swiss cheese. I damn near fired him, but the prison (it was on a small island a mile away from a public beach) started being attacked by Ballas in inflatable rafts (I've been playing GTA:SA too much). After a small firefight, we got in our one boat and started toward the public beach, but they were catching up, so I tied three grenades to the back of the boat which exploded and propelled us faster toward the beach. When we got there, we saw that the grenades had blown off a peice of the boat that smoked some little kid. I laughed. We also saw that the ballas had a large water pump attached to a long rubber hose going to their boats. I accused them of cheating and popped the hose with a ball point pen. I walked away with my coolface on and the dream ended.

Lucky bastard. It's extremely challenging if not impossible for most people to get a WILD right after going to sleep. I guess you're one of those few.
It's really weird in real life i'm not afraid of heights but in my dreams i can't jump more then 2 meters i get a strange feeling that might be fear or something when i'm falling i really don't know, i get that feeling IN my dream its strange...a lot at least for me.
Last night I was aware that I was in a dream but I couldn't control a dern thing. I remember that I was in a desert and there was a sandstorm. At that moment I knew I was in a dream. But then all of a sudden I was hanging on a branch of a gigantically huge tree. I looked below and saw a lake/sea. I thought to myself "oh god I hate when I fall in dreams, I hope I don't let go." But I did let go and I immediately fell (the feeling of falling in a dream is always terrifying). And then I was back in the desert again. Then I woke up. I also was trying to tell myself to summon some boobs to squeeze but it didn't work v:v:v

Sometimes I have dreams where I'm rafting down a river on something. The river is usually made to be an obstacle course. And then there are always massive, enormous, gigantic waterfalls that have to be several kilometers in height. And I always have to fall down them to advance on the course. It's really scary but also really cool.
How does one deal with being woken up by a hyper active kitten?
How does one deal with being woken up by a hyper active kitten?
Dohohohohoho I have the same problem.

He wakes me up every night around 3 or 4, so I have been using the wake-up call to do wild.
I guess its not so much of a problem as a really cute alarm.

Have you ever tried closing your door? Or does your kitten meow?

It looks like a cool show, but there are so many things wrong with it too.
"While you're supposed to be resting, your brain is coming up with a detailed alternate reality"
we do that every night, it's nothing bad.
Have you ever tried closing your door?
Well, yeah, the door is closed. But every morning, when my dad wakes my bros up, I'm still in deep sleep. When he does this, the kitten sneaks in and starts attacking me.

Your kitty must love you. There is nothing you can do really, ask your dad to prevent the kitty from coming in?

Maybe...
He really does love me. Biting and clawing is the only way he knows how to play, and it hurts real bad.
[sp]His name is Tiger :3[/sp]
I remember this one dream I had awhile ago where it was obscene if you wore clothes, so everyone was naked. It was also obscene to talk quietly, so everyone was shouting. I got a few friends and we dressed up, went to the local McDonald's, and whispered to the cashier, "Give me the money." After that the wall blew up and the obscenity police shot us all with guns that were disguised as hats on their heads.
Anyways, tonight I shall try to lucid for the first time. Wish me luck! :buddy:

My kitten sits on my lap and sleeps while I game/lurk/whatever.
Truly a brocat.
His name is Shogun.
Okay, my recall's not at it's best these days.
I did attempt WILD last night, here are the results, in first person.
I'm in bed, whee. Better look out for static and foot feelings.
Sitting back in my brain is boring.
Lalalalalala
Whoa, barely visible spinny colors. The beginnings of WILD?
Hmm, my feet feel awfully hot...
What the fuck is my heart doing?
Wait a minute...
This is it! I'm almost there!
*brother continually adjusts his sheets and pillow, until it fully brings me out of my near-WILD*
Nooooooooooo, I'm to agitated to get that close again tonight.
Attempt #2 will be tonight. I might make it this time.
This now officially the weirdest combination of sensations I have ever encountered.

:buddy:
I got pretty close, so I guess I'm one of the few as well.
Does anyone know how to deal with real noises when trying to WILD?
I was so close. Last night was my first time trying to go lucid. Right as soon as I manage to go lucid, I wake up.

Glad we had this talk.
Anyways, I may shift rooms because I'm going to a new school which follows a different time table, so I may be able to wake up kitten free!
Several WILDs last night, and one DILD.
I played the piano, amazing new songs made by my subconscious.
Also, tasted Uguu-soda, last time I forgot to (posted earlier). It tasted like tropical fruits, mostly pineapple.
[editline]28th June 2011[/editline]
Also had a single creepy sleep paralysis experience. Someone was in my room shouting "LOOK" over and over again in a high pitched voice very close to me. I didn't open my eyes. It was probably something scary.
I had so many dreams last night, and I remember most of them.
It was awesome.
What method of induction for lucidity do you guys find easiest to perform for a new guy?
What method of induction for lucidity do you guys find easiest to perform for a new guy?
DILD by reality checks.
DILD by reality checks.
Alright, that's what I used to get my glorious one second of lucid dreaming last night.
[editline]28th June 2011[/editline]
In that one second, I made myself pee like a firehose, though.
This isnt practicly a dream but oh WELL
so well i was basicly relaxing watching tv and then suddenly i feel very VERY tired it was just 8 pm So well i closed my eyes and guess what I STARTED TO SEE FREAKING MOUNTAINS! i have never see those toughs and from no where im a wolf and im running on ze mountains and after that i feelt my heart going REALLY fast i couldent feel at all my body and i started to see some ODD Shit while i was in that state i started to hear some voices speaking to me and basicily i saw me in a third person perspective i was on my bed sleeping i could see myself like on a third person perspective and after such a freaking dream i start to get reaally hot and finally i collapse i was feeling nothing at all my mind was empty and then wake up ITS 9 OF THE MORNING WHAT THE?
No WILD success last night, #3 is tonight.
I'll report in the morning. (Or afternoon, like most days lately)
K, time for some more TL;DR (I really need to make a habit of staying up to date with this thread)

Could be the feeling of falling and not falling at the same time.
I know when that happens, it freaks me out
Then again, I am afraid of heights, so assuming that my experience and your experience are the same would be a case of hasty generalization

Alright, firstly, take your time to type. I think I understand what you're trying to say, but with grammar like that I can't be sure.
Secondly, I'd like to point out the perhaps relevant irony in the fact that you dreamt about being a wolf.
And thirdly, I'd like to ask if you were watching TV in bed. In that case, it's pretty understandable why you'd fall asleep, and it might be the source of some of the 'voices' too... or not, I won't pretend to know what goes on in a furry's mind
Aaaaaand as far as personal news, I'm rescheduling my appointment for nose pillows because I'm going to a kick-ass sci-fi convention from Thursday to Sunday.
Oh, and I sort of accomplished my dream goal about Touhou, but I want to be in Gensokyo, bullet hell be damned
And once again I confirm the fact that I am a massive weaboo... At least it's not as bad as confirming the fact that I'm a furry
