I've been wondering something about Lucid Dreaming, and it deals with music. If we have any musicians here, I have a question for you; have you ever wrote/composed/played a piece of music in your dream that you had not in real life, and woken up with some inkling on how to play said piece? Or is such a thing impossible?

[editline]7th July 2011[/editline] It was an awesome song though.
Does it seem strange to anyone that whenever I have dreams that are suppose to be scary I just go "oh, okay"? For example last night I had pretty horrifying dream in hindsight where I was living in a small town with about 20-30 people, all of whom I know in real life, where one day I woke up and everyone was gone, it was dark and there were a few dead dogs and a blood trail leading into a forest. Me being me, I followed this trail into the forest where I found bodies that had been cut up/set alight. Now obviously in real life this would frighten me to death but in my dream I just didn't care about what danger I was in, I was only worried for those still missing. Does this happen to anyone else?
Yeah, I haven't had a dream that I could classify as a nightmare in a long time. Plenty of creepy stuff has happened but it didn't really bother me. When there's some entity obviously after me I usually end up blasting the hell out of it in one way or another.
But, were you able to play the part of any single instrument?
I could play the drum part because that is the only instrument I can play by ear, but the other parts, no.
I had a dream where I was having akward sex in a pool. For some reason later in the dream I found out that I have AIDS. Maybe the dream was caused by browsing honey scented condoms online, idk. So if you want to have sex in a pool, browse condoms over the internet.
Last night I saw a dream that I was at a large concert and some super-famous hot female singer was singing, and then she suddenly confessed to me in her song and pulled me from the audience and kissed me in front of thousands and I was like "fuck yea life"
Hey guys, new to the whole LD thing, but I have been trying. So basically I discovered that MILD doesn't work and I can't WILD properly because my alarm would wake my sister up and she'd complain about that. So what options do I have?
I had a strange dream last night where I was at a shooting range and I had a Thompson and I was shooting the other people at the range, but they were just like, "Oh, you were always the jokester," even though they were bleeding everywhere and stuff.

If I wouldn't have given up on everything musical I probably could have picked it out on a piano or something at least, but I forgot it. :smith: [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] Anyways, I dreamed I was in minecraft, and I was building some kind of spiral knights-like underground cathedral. Some chick from my neighborhood came up to me and was flirting with me. Just being nice, I gave her a tour of the catacombs on a boat. After that she took off all her clothes and laid down on the floor. I would have been absolutely fine with this, only she was really chubby. So, I politely told her to get out and continued on building the cathedral. [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] dayum. Most messed up automerge I've ever seen.
I just can't get the hang of doing WILD, I just wind up with my mind drifting off. Not to mention every little sound gets to me. And also, for some reason I've been waking up feeling like crap lately.
I stayed up all night last night. I'm eating bannana bread and drinking chocolate milk, when I pass out what type of fucked up dreams should I have
Apparently the kind where your dead cat comes back as an anthropomorphic demonic serial killer.
Ohohoh my god, I had a dream last night that I smoked weed for the first time(I was up late reading the Durgz discussion); then getting caught by my parents and then a firetruck came to my house. :v:
I've been wondering something about Lucid Dreaming, and it deals with music. Or is such a thing impossible?
It's certainly possible, but it's not very likely that it will sound the way it did before. Dreams are weird because even if you master an activity in your dreams, you wouldn't be able to pull it off in the real world because you won't have developed the muscle memory in the real world to let you do whatever it is that you "mastered". Also in your dreams, you don't really get held back by rules or laws of nature. So if you hear a song in your head and you play it and it sounds great, your best bet is NOT to remember how you played it in the dream (because I can guarantee it won't translate correctly), but rather the music. Focus on what you actually HEARD and maybe it'll work. Still probably not, but it's worth a shot. It's been done before, usually it's bad.
So I was kind of in the twilight zone area this morning, just falling asleep, waking up, not really wanting to get up, as I'd already recorded the dream from that morning and wanted to go back to sleep seeing as it's Saturday morning. There was one short, vivid experience. I was falling asleep and I had this picture in my mind, kinda like a baguette. It just stayed there, all fuzzy and outlined because it was in my minds eye, but then it just suddenly became super vivid and clear and I seemed to gain complete proper feeling of my body which had been feeling weird before. It vanished really quickly after, and noises from the outside world came back in too, but could that have been a bit of an accidental wild? It certainly felt like a dream when I saw that thing so clearly.

DOH! I read the ops spoiler tags, how silly of me :saddowns: [editline]9th July 2011[/editline] Also whats that one thing where you lay straight on your backand crazy shit happens, sleep paralysis?
Magical lucid time last night! I had two lucids last night! Like Orkel mentioned a few pages ago, my first lucid was not all that vivid. On the other hand; these were mega-hella vivid. I'll type up the descriptions at some point.
First Dream: I'm at a class or seminar or something. The woman teaching begins talking about dreams and lucid dreams. I joke to myself about how I'm probably the only person there with experience in the subject. I look to my left, a friend of mine is sitting next to me. He says, "Hey, lets do some reality checks" as a joke. He pokes his hand, and I pinch off my nose. I get that now-familiar feeling of air going into my nose when it really shouldn't. I start freaking out, mostly excited, but I keep it together. I completely forget to stabilize or do anything that I've been telling myself to do when I go lucid. Because my recall is still not very good, I have forgotten a bit. Now I'm walking along a street. There are other people walking towards me. I see a girl, and think to myself, "This is my dream, she should be all over me." Promptly she starts walking with me, holding me affectionately. There's another blank spot here. I'm on my street, but it's obviously different. I'm looking for my house, when I realize that the street is backwards. I walk to where my house should be. Inside, there is a strange bald man who identifies as my sub. He says he will teach me, and rubs his face on my shirt. I try to open an options menu to make it more vivid (although it already is quite nice) and possibly help me recall it. Alas, I fail. Blank spot. I'm at a counter, with the bald man. There's an elephant person thing as the bartender. He needs to be paid in propane tanks, so I give summoning a try, and successfully pull a full propane tank over my head from behind my back. Possible blank spot? Second Dream (more an interlude): I'm at my computer, my brother is walking out of the kitchen. It's a false awakening, but I'm not in bed so I don't think to do a reality check. Oh sub, you sly dog! I give my brother a brief desciption of my first dream. Blank spot. Third dream: Not much recall at all from this. I'm in an airport, and out of nowhere do a reality check. I'm less suprised about the results. The only other thing I can remember about this one is that there was a group of people trying to bring four blue plastic bananas filled with peanut butter onto the plane.
Last night I had yet another hours-long alien invasion dream. This time giant robots from outer space took over. After watching them kill people for a while, I left the city. I traveled through a forest with a group until we reached a mostly uninhabited tropical area. I mostly forgot about the robots because they stayed in the cities and didn't bother with the smaller populated areas. For a while I had to sell bananas in glass bottles, topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. That was fun.
I had a dream that i ate a red amanita. But the wierd thing is, i woke up on a ditch in the morning. Was it a dream?
I think my subconscious enjoys arguing with me IRL. Whenever I think of an idea or philosophy something in my head disagrees with, I get this urge in my throat to say something like "No" Is that related to my sub?
recurring dream about me being an agent partnered up with 2 other agents infiltrating a base belonging to rowan atkinson interpretate this shit
I really want my series of nightmares interpretated as well.
I sometimes have this recurring nightmare where I'm in a huge warehouse with no lights except the flashlight I have and there are various things out to kill me. Like sometimes there is a granny who is coming after me trying to feed me cookies covered in anthrax, and other times there is a crazy lady looking for me because she thinks I am her child, and when she finds me, she stuffs me up her vagina. The one I had last night involved this kid looking for his mom, whom I saw earlier, but she was a zombie in a cage. The kid went psycho on me with a knife. We were in a sewing room, so I was throwing scissors at him. Both of his eyes had scissors in them, but he was still coming. When he finally jumped on me, he started stabbing and was screaming, "You're a mommy killer! You're a mommy killer! Why don't you say hi to my mommy in Hell!" It wasn't the weirdest in this "series" of nightmares, but it wasn't the most normal. One time a few years ago, I had one of these dreams. I heard a stampede coming. It was a bunch of zombie dinosaurs. I started to run away from them. Eventually, I found a door and opened it. I fell off a huge cliff and looked up. The warehouse was about the size of the entire state of Colorado and it was just floating in the air. I kept falling for (what seemed like) hours. When I landed, I didn't die. I got up and looked around. I landed in Minneapolis, Minnesota near the Mall of America. There were billboards everywhere advertising the warehouse, saying it was the only protection from the Commies. Shortly after, I was ambushed by Communist ninjas. They threw red stars at me and I exploded. My last words were, "STALIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNN!" That was the only time in the "series" where I made it outside of the warehouse.
I had sleep paralysis, it lasted for 30 seconds and was utterly terrifying. Don't shoot for SP. Oh and had a dream last night that I woke up in a temple and a group of people came up and told me that we needed to go get supplies from another town or w/e. We got on a chariot and rode through this like mountain terrain and I was like socially high up. It was pretty bomb. [editline]10th July 2011[/editline]

Nightmares. If there's a man chasing you with chainsaw, then obviously something's not right. Try running into the chainsaw.

And if you end up shredded into bits and thrown onto the walls, it's karma for trying to play god. On a serious note, I've made it a habit to reality check, so I should have a lucid dream soon :v:

I keep forgetting to say but right now I still occasionally scream while I'm sleeping and have nightmares around 80% of the time. I also usually wake up around 5-7 times a night. I'm also not entirely sure if they are both related or not. I never used to have this problem, or much of it, until around the beginning of this year. Is there any methods or ideas that could be recommended or applied to help minimize my sleep problem? I tried out meditation but that didn't make out so much of a difference. If it helps I'll supply a quick background of mine which has the most connection to this issue. I used to visit a psychiatrist a couple months back for psychological trauma but stopped going due to problems. Even though I still carry a lot of the traits, right now I'm unsure whether or not if I still do officially suffer from it unless I can be reassessed by a professional. I say this for a few reason including the fact that I feel this can provide possible valuable helpful information to those interested in giving any advice.
I'm pretty sure my bed is bad, but my parents won't believe me. I lifted up my mattress and it sinks big time in the middle. Maybe that explains why I haven't had a good night's sleep in 1.5-2 years.
Jeez, so I come back from Europa and there are all these people asking questions and not getting answers. Remember guys, this is a chat thread, not a communal blog. So here is yet another installment of "Answering Entirely Too Many Questions"
Hey guys, new to the whole LD thing, but I have been trying. MILD more, I guess? LDing is one of those things where if you want it bad enough for long enough, it's likely to happen to some extent. Unless you have some issue with the idea of LDing... in that case, just trust that your sub will somehow let you know it won't put up with that crap. Or, I dunno, make a deal with yourself, or... yeah, I dunno, point being you should be able to find a way so long as you (in your entirety) want it.
I think my subconscious enjoys arguing with me IRL. The only really thing that sticks out to me is the whole maternal figure thing, but the idea that's the root cause for the dreams is way too Freudian for me to get behind.
I keep forgetting to say but right now I still occasionally scream while I'm sleeping and have nightmares around 80% of the time. At the very least, try to find some other way to (carefully) deal with your trauma, because clearly it's still giving you problems. And if it's still causing you problems, even doctors will agree that the diagnosis part of the equation can go to hell. So now for probably unwelcome personal news... I've got the nose pillows+CPAP, and have now started using the chin strap again (evidently having my mouth open is bad). I got practically no sleep Saturday morning (without the CPAP; I was at a friend's house), but this morning I slept for about 10 hours with the CPAP. I woke up with a terrible headache, so I took the mask off and trying sleeping away my headache. It got worse, and didn't get better until I took migrane pills and laid in a chair for 4 hours. It almost felt like the sorts of headaches I get when I get way too much sleep... I suppose that's a sign that the CPAP is working. I dreamt some during the night, too, but nothing that stuck out... except something to do with Pokemon... there was a Touhou reference too, but nothing came of that either. Having a Touhou dream is my personal goal, but evidently my sub dislikes the idea for two reasons: 1. Dreaming about being surrounded by what are essentially extremely pre-pubescent girls brings up entirely too many questions about sexuality 2. Just about everyone would be acting in-character if they were to kill me. So I've yet to meet a Touhou character, barring the blatant trolling I received quite awhile back: the dream consisted entirely of me and Satori Komeiji; I said "OH MY GOD, A TOUHOU CHARACTER", and she said in my obviously male voice "Yeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh......". Then the dream was over. My sub and I had quite the lulz with that one... I'm rambling now, so I'm just gonna stop now. Lemme know if you've got questions, and I will probably answer them several days later within a megapost. Kthxbye (TL;DR: Yes, I know it's too long, but if you read it all, that's your own damned fault, so nyeh)
I had a dream a few weeks back It was quite normal it felt like it was 5:00AM I looked out the front window and I saw some random shapes one looked like an atom. then I wen't back to my room and thought wait a second? what the fuck did I just see. At that point I became fully aware I was dreaming the excitement got to me and woke me up from my first lucid dream.
Which brings me to my question, when you realize your dreaming, whats the best way to make sure you dont "over excite"
