You should put slightly bigger tires on the CR-V. Make it an off-road monster.

Ah, a conversation I'd like to have finally. I have thought of it, but the 2.4 in it only puts out 160hp. Not quite enough (I think) for climbing much terrain or even getting out of the mud.
The bucket seats, sit further up and are not as thick as the stock ones. I can fit a 2 person couch in the back and close the tail gate. The idea was to allow easier access for carrying 2x4's and home supplies. I also thought they looked neat. That's all.
The civic's 2nd tach stays till I find a way to fill the giant holes underneath it and not have it look like junk. There's also a lot of ignition wiring going all over the damn place. It's kind of like a puzzle of wires... everywhere.
holes look better than the tach
really
Torque is what matters most when your out there. What's it putting out? All wheel or 4x4?
Torque
its a honda lol
its a honda lol
It's real time 4wd. It activates the rear wheels if the front ones spin, and during any turning whatsoever. It actually has decent torque, 163ft lbs or something.

ok, so it would be horrible on any terrain other than gravel, and asphalt.
[editline]10th March 2011[/editline]
and as for the holes in your dash, get some sealant.

Take a Civic to a swamp then to test it's performance.

That's not a lot of torque, more so for a vehicle of that size.
For comparison a standard Jetta has about 135ft-lbs and the TDI has 236ft-lbs
Also the 1999 QX4 Luxury SUV I used to drive has(d) 196ft-lbs in it's day and probably about the same with a good engine (or some cleaning). Granted it's 4311 pounds to your 3534 but still.

Those don't have a bit of utility in them.
I said why. And did no one listen when I said the civic came that way? The civic is not quick in any way whatsoever, and none of them "can be" without some kind of boosting. All 3 cars are geared for economy. The civic gets me about 28, the Cr-v 25, and the Vibe is about 30mpg. I acquire cars over time. These are my daily drivers for me and my wife. I have others but did not know if they were "cool enough" or worth mentioning. I also have a '91 Ranger, a 2010 short-bed F150, and a 1996 Audi A6 (with a FUBAR motor) I get enough driving performance cars when I pull them over. I like my simple stuff.
What did you fuck up on that Civic? If you were driving it economically I'd expect a 34-36 MPG mixed city/highway ratio, 32+ if you're only in city, up to 38-40 if you're highway only.
What that tells me is that the car might be geared economically but you drive the shit out of it either way, like a ricer.

For most of its life I drove it 60mph on the freeway due to harsh speed laws in WA, but now that it's back in California, I keep a cool 75 usually, and I've been driving stick for a long time. IT gets about 28, and I think it's due to all the junk under the hood. I also suspect an exhaust leak now as it has become loud again.
Exhaust leak and CAI wouldn't cause that thing to get 28MPG. In fact, the CAI should help just a little bit.
And the speed you travel means nothing, it's how you get up to that speed. Keep your foot out of it.
NecroTitan, the Civic is a standard. Note: Obv. manual transmission in bay pick, side of the clutch cylinder on the firewall visible in bay pic.
I suspect you rev it up into 5-6 grand before shifting, which is way too high for driving "economically". Should be shifting at 3-4, or if you're feeling really frugal 2500. But only if you want to really milk the mileage of it and fall asleep at the wheel.

DNS at work doesn't allow me to see photos. I can only recall from when I saw this thread at home. But you are absolutely right about the shifting. I get ~24mpg when I shift hard @7k+ but I get close to 40 when I shift @ ~2600.

I try to shift before 3,000 all the time, then it usually runs about 3000 on a straight freeway path. Not only is it a CAI, but there is also aftermarket headers on it, and the ignition is messed up. I have a video on my phone I'll upload of the engine dropping from 3000 to 1500 sporadically while driving straight. It also bogs down to a stall sometimes while sitting still at a stoplight in neutral or clutched in. Like I said, it's all still being sorted out and I'm still only $250 into it as far as repairs.

Those are all at minimum, $10,000 more expensive than the civic I bought. I got it for under $2k. I would probably never buy a new civic. Only newer cars I ever buy are trucks.
What if some fairy offered you an Atom V8 for $100.
