I'm going to tell you what a friend of mine told me four years ago that drastically changed my life. Make yourself happy, let's say you walk into the room and everyone's looking at you and you look like shit...you better start fucking saying "I look so damn good today!" and stick with it. No matter what always put your mind in a positive mindset and the rest follows. Don't listen to these "screw being popular blah blah blah kids." It's actually quite fun making friends and becoming a social butterfly. Let's face it, nobody likes to be near a debbie downer, people with absoluetly no self confidence are just a burden to be around, as they bring everyone around them down. If you don't like how your life is, [B]FUCKING CHANGE IT.[/B] That's the honest to God key to all of this is changing your mindset, and no matter what, forcing the self confidence inside your head. Eventually it comes natural and you start to build your ego! That's just what worked for me, but you have to quit moping around and stop caring so much about what people think and making sure that you keep to the "I look damn good today!" even when you look shitty. It's this exact thinking that gets ugly guys hot girls, they've mastered this technique. I hope this helps you sir.

I studied hard and worked my way to the second in class, gained the respect of the people around me, and made great friends. Looking back, the only thing I regretted was taking things too seriously.

The real key is to fake being cool and popular. If you pretend that you are something for long enough, you eventually become that something.
