Where can I get cheap neutral density filters? Deal extreme is silly slow.
Deal extreme is also awful quality, I'd avoid them for everything. I can't provide any more help.
Right i got the money for my 7D back but i lost £160 to American import duties. (the equivalent of $250). Im going to work to make the difference, and get a 5D in the next few days. This is just annoying and taught me a massive lesson, never buy big purchases online especially from different countries.
I just got so excited over this Olympus OM-D announcement. Only to realize it's another Micro 4/3rds camera.
they have to compete with the nex 7 and the fuji x-pro thing because now mirrorless semi-pro bodies are becoming hip. guess we'll have to wait for the full announcement to see why it's so much better than their current high end device.
Sorry to advertise a bit here :v: but voting ends in two days for the contest I'm in! It would be a great help from anyone to take a second and vote! (You can vote once a day per IP address) I'm hoping to win, then sell the laptop to get a nice new lens! Also my school will be getting $2,500 towards whatever we choose (Photography/Video Production of course!) http://fox47.com/sections/contests/msg2teens/videos/vid_1.shtml (Vote Memorial, or whomever you think is best.) Thanks! And keep up the good work. I really mean it, you guys inspire me. It's a shame I have not been taking more pictures.
Happy to help :)
just quick guys, I'm gonna go buy a tripod today and i need your help. It's this one right here for my Canon 5D, do you think it would be suitable and is a good price? http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/82276/show.html?cm_re=RECENTLY-_-110510-_-RecentlyViewed if you're not gonna reply, can you at least agree disagree whether you think its a good buy or not?
To be honest mate, I couldn't tell without seeing it in real life. But... Manfrotto have been around for a long time, with a good reputation of good quality build. And... I've used the shittiest tripods for a long time. You can get decent results on anything really. As long as your camera sits comfortably on top, then it should be fine for most uses you throw at it.
Thats mate, i went and got it. The bottom legs are really thin but its high enough without using them so it's good. The only downside is no spirit level, but oh well .
My Acquittance said y'all know shit about them Polaroids and them hemorrhoids.
Jessops is ridiculously overpriced. Go to Jacob's photo, at least.
Yeah, it is. And in my local store at least, the employees there are useless.
Also, be careful buying cheap carbon fibre tripods. They tend to cheap out on everything but the leg material, to entice buyers with carbon fibre. For example, it'll probably have poor joints and other non-carbon fiber parts, to save money to afford using carbon fibre at £90. For less than £200, you're generally better off buying a nice thick legged aluminium tripod. It might be a bit heavier, but it'll be able to take a beating, last much longer and be a lot more steady. This photographer recommends Giottos.
I have a Slik tripod which is fantastic. I've lost the head of it though, which renders it practically useless (I have just balanced the camera on top once). Tried to find a replacement at my local Camera store, but they don't have the right size. I'll get on finding on online soon methinks.
RIP KODAK :'(
RIP KODAK :'(
BUT WHAT ABOUT MY EKTAR D:
poor kodak. over 100 years and they couldn't make the transition to digital, even though they invented the format. they shall be missed :(

I'll have to see i guess.
Time to stockpile some Ektar for a few years and then resell it as lomo film. Or keep it all for myself.
Wait what happened to Kodak? Fuck I don't even have a digital camera don't do this to me... Oh, just saw in the news section... Stockpiling color film like crazy now.
Jumping in on the Kodak buzz... [release]A little while ago I asked a whole bunch of photographers to share their thoughts about the whole Kodak fiasco: PETER BAKER: It is pretty sad to see the company that essentially created the industry that we’re all obsessed with struggle to adapt to the changes in that industry. There’s no reason that Kodak shouldn’t have been able to take it’s imaging expertise – or moreover it’s brand recognition – and been the major provider of digital sensors to other camera makers. Something akin to “Kodak Inside” a la Intel. There is a seriously romantic component involved in this though. Kodak isn’t just another company that we buy products from. Kodak, in a very real way, is responsible for many of our favorite memories, and nobody wants to see them go away. YAAKOV ISRAEL: I’m always hoping that somebody will take over the film manufacturing at least but its very sad that this part of the American history of photography won’t be around any more! As it is the prices of film & paper are rocket high and I find myself thinking that its nearly unethical to ask my students to buy printing paper. But I’m a big believer in the discipline you develop when using film as you are always on a budget so you think well before you press the shutter. PHILLIP TOLEDANO: To be honest, I haven’t really thought about it at all … I’m strangely unattached to technology. Whatever Kodak did, will be replaced by something else and in a few years we’ll know it as an interesting photoshop filter … RYAN PFLUGER: It’s just one of those things you would never think about. It’s like there being no more oil paints or colored pencils. It just seems so bizarre. But we will have to wait and see what happens. I guess there is always Fuji …… gross DAVID WRIGHT: It is a very sad day to see Kodak go by the wayside. GEORDIE WOOD: Kodak is tragic for sure man. It’s too bad they weren’t the lightest on their toes but I guess you get slow after being such a powerhouse for decades. I hope the film won’t disappear but I’m sure it will live on in some capacity. I’ve spent a bunch of time in Central New York between college and shooting. Whether it’s the Erie Canal, Carrier or Kodak the families of CNY have seen industry come and go for the last century. I think about all the middle class families in Rochester who made their living with Kodak and who are now left behind once again. NOAH KALINA: It’s unfortunate but not totally surprising. What is shocking is that they were the ones who invented digital. how were they not able to transform their business and move it towards digital? AARON WOJACK: Perhaps it is just the end of an era. It chills my spine to think that the day may actually come where you will not be able to buy commercial film. I suppose it is inevitable, but I don’t want to see it happen. On the other hand it reminds me that the state of the photo industry is in flux and that we all need to be innovative and creative or we won’t make it. This shouldn’t be news to anyone. Things like this a are very persuasive inspiration to get your game plan sorted. ALEXANDER MCLUCKIE: In all honesty mate I came to terms with it when they discontinued Kodachrome. I don’t think I’ve shot a single roll of Kodak since they stopped it. ERIC WILLIAM CARROLL: To me, Kodak is in the same position that American auto-makers were in a few years back, albeit without the support of a government bailout. Kodak had such a strong brand to help it’s business, but they totally dropped the ball when it came to evolving with photography on a basic consumer level-Kodak should’ve been Flickr, they should’ve been Instagram, they should’ve been Snapfish. All of these chances were squandered and instead Kodak spent years making sub-par digital cameras and printers when they should’ve been re-thinking photography from the ground-up. Sure, I’ll miss my Tri-x if they go under, but hopefully they’ll use bankruptcy as a chance to get some fresh blood and new ideas into their corporate offices and reinvent Kodak’s purpose and practice. The old Kodak moment has come and gone-it’s time for them to realize that and create a new contemporary one. EMILIANO GRANADO: I guess I’ll have to buy Fuji. Aren’t we all secretly preparing for an all digital world? How much longer can film really exist? 10 years? In a way though, my abrupt sarcasm is telling of how I experience film and photography in general. The subtleties don’t matter. Kodak is richer, warmer. Fuji is cooler. Whatever. I don’t care. I can print it differently. The EXPERIENCE and my INTENTION are all that matter. I’m a photographer cuz I love to photograph. Fuck the technique and the color cast and the digi vs film and all that shit. With that said, I prefer the experience of slower, bigger, and bulkier cameras. but WHATEVER. JAKE STANGEL: I’ll be drinking alot more … DAREK FORTAS: Cannot imagine not shooting 6x7 or 4x5 in the future … heard some gossip of medium format rolls going up 100%; it scares shit out me.[/release] MULL IT OVER
Eh, it's "chapter 11 bankruptcy" which basically tells their creditors to chill the fuck out for a bit and let Kodak get their shit together. I'll happily bet that Ektar and Portra keep rolling of the production lines for at least the next 5 years.
Are there any large online stores for camera stuff?
Are there any large online stores for camera stuff?
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ ?
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ ?
Thanks for that I'll give it a look. Also, not sure if that has been posted but check out this amazing work http://www.flickr.com/photos/54751514@N04/
Anyone know if there's a way I can use my tripod as a softbox stand? So I don't need to buy a softbox stand. I have no idea how softboxes and flashes mount together and mount to the stand.
just ordered the apparently excellent sony ultra wide converter for my 16mm lens, making it now an 18mm equiv on my APS-C sensor. This is going to be fun
What's the best, safest way to clean dust off my sensor? [editline]20th January 2012[/editline] Speaking of which, I looked at it and noticed three discoloured spots on the filter coating (I think that's what it is) Wat do?
