University interview tomorrow morning guys, wish me luckkkk
eeeeehhhh i am posting my stuff for napier today, and i have the RCS friday and UWS emailed me today to say I've got one on the 13th i also have an exam tomorrow but i'm up until early morning burning CDs and printing files however that's my last exam so i will celebrate the death of my prelims and the end of my work with a drink.
If you get in we might cross paths, if you're in the Merchiston campus.
Do any of you look back on old images and just feel really "eh" about them. Like they are extremely unimpressive and want to just delete them all? I constantly am looking at my old images and feeling like they are just so bland. Like I just want to delete them all and start a clean slate. The only reason I keep them is so I can look back and realize how far I have come.
Means you're improving. :)
All the time.
At the end of 2011 I came to a massive epiphany about the all around poorness of my photos and took nearly a whole month off shooting, came back Jan 30th with a new Flickr account (couldn't be bothered deleting all of the shithouse contacts) and started the most fundamental year of photography for myself. Exactly one year on I'm in such a good place with my photography, I've made an insane amount of progress and am keen to improve more.
Woohoo! Just booked my flights to Byron Bay and then on to Nimbin for the marijuana festival! Cannot wait.
If you get in we might cross paths, if you're in the Merchiston campus.
you study there?
just got home from my interview, hot damn it was weird... wasn' like anything i was expecting! it was more of a friendly chat about my work, artists I like and my opinions of photography as a whole! I really hope it went well, the photography department is amazing, filled with iMacs, a huge printing room, about 30 different DSLR's and loads of film shit! Even a Hassleblad Scanner! good luck cueball with your uni shizz
you study there?
Yep, Mechatronic Engineering. It's building robotics, basically. Fusion of mechanical and electronic engineering with computer science.
mechatronic has to be the coolest name for a degree program ever
I know right.
I wonder how this would look on a long exposure with a good SLR, I forget the name but there's also photography involving exposing film to corona discharges, I bet you could do that with a digital camera as well.

Do we have some kind of "what's wrong with my picture" thread? I really don't want to clutter CreativePhotogr. with that stuff
Ooh this is one of my choices for a Uni degree next year, would you advise it? What sort of job prospects are you looking at? What's the gist?
I definitely would say go for it. It's (very) interesting, you learn a lot of useful stuff in mathematics, computers and programming that can be applied to many jobs outside of engineering, on top of all the engineering knowledge. It's also one of the highest paying degrees to have since it covers so many bases :v:.

on a completely unrelated topic, i just noticed recently that as i've spent quite a while using mostly black and white film, my (already not too great) abilities to properly edit stuff have gone out the window god damn it [editline]1st February 2013[/editline] also, looking at the latest stuff i've taken, not really quite ~feeling it~ for some reason eh idk [editline]1st February 2013[/editline] hmm, i think i need more criticism and inspiration
well I have to get a train in 20 mins, so, cheers for the offensive crit, harsh words, "stop taking photos of your friends" line etc cos i'd be fucking nowhere without it see you on the other side!

I got my transparency roll developed this afternoon, so I'm going to scan them and upload the good ones for you guys to see. From what I can tell, there's some really nice ones in here, but that's personal bias, so I'll let you guys be the judge of that.
