You can like your own photos even if others don't agree
I know it's not really anybody's thing here, but anyone know of a good point and shoot camera in the $100-150 range (USD)? Sister's birthday coming up in a few, parents want to get her one for a trip she's going on...
sure, but you'd have to wager a new digital camera to prove yourself right
I took it with a phone, didn't have my camera handy.
are you talking about exposing the medium itself to corona discharges?
because that would fuck a sensor right up
No no, just imaging corona from a distance.
Here's arcs with a camera, not very good lighting. Can't do corona photography until night for obvious reasons.
I could throw a black curtain over it if i wasn't afraid it would set on fire.
In the last week, several incidents of vandalism involving the painting of green swastikas on walls have occurred on the CalArts campus. While we recognize that the swastika is an image with complex cultural and spiritual meanings, in our culture and time the swastika is experienced as a symbol of Nazism, fascism and white supremacism and is often used as an expression of disrespect and violence. Out of respect for those members of our community for whom the swastika represents racial suppression and hate, we cannot tolerate the use of this symbol in the random and autonomous way it is appearing on campus.
Artskool
That happened at my regular school but they sprayed them in the wrong direction and wrote "Amerika" everywhere and wrote nigger everywhere and a black girl from our school was interviewed and cried on TV
That happened at my regular school but they sprayed them in the wrong direction and wrote "Amerika" everywhere and wrote nigger everywhere and a black girl from our school was interviewed and cried on TV
you can't make a swastika the wrong way round though
the arms could go to the left
I want to get into Photojournalism, how could I go about it?
the arms could go to the left
i thought nazi flags were double sided, so from one side the arms would be going to the left but on the other they would be going to the right
RE mechatronic degree:
one of my mates' looked into it, and if you're able to make your mind up, doing pure mechanical or electrical engineering is the way to go, and has better higher level job prospects. It's because if a company wants to hire somebody, they want a mechanical or an electrical engineer, and the dude with the pure degree is the one that they would hire before the one with the mechatronic degree.
(I could be totally fucking wrong).

Take a course at a community college?

Mechatronics is it's own thing, just as mechanical or electrical engineering are their own things too.
Mechatronics just requires a lot of bases to be covered.

Probably another victim of society.
I went over to a friends house today and her sister was like "Hey Adam! You take photos, You think you can use these?" as she proceeds to drop 6 rolls of HP5 into my lap.
Free film
Wait the story gets better
That's when he said yeah but my friend Austin is too
And he shipped the film to me
then austin has an epiphany, "you know what? i think zach is a pretty cool guy. eh shoots film and doesnt afraid of anything." he then proceeds to send me a few film canisters, a 35mm f/3.5, and n00dz.

does anyone else have this issue? my camera LCD is a liar. it makes images look a LOT nicer then what they actually look like. whenever i put the images on my computer, they look so damn different, and it's frustrating as hell.
yep
probably different gamma on the camera lcd
just read an article, and apparently this happens a lot in lightroom, especially when shooting in raw format. they say, "Capture NX2 will solve your problem."
edit: just did a little research. "it won't work with Canon's RAW files. However, it will work on jpegs and Tiff files converted from Canon RAW files." lolfux
That's weird, my shots on my Sony LCD look the same as on my computer
Mine always seem to be different!
So, uh... The kid who won the local Photography contest with his flower in the vase picture posted a bunch of photos into his Photography Album on Facebook and said if any body wanted to buy prints they could and they are free to leave Critique! I left my critique. I have been ignored for almost 3 hours.
what did you say?
Even good-natured people don't respond well to public criticism, especially on facebook. Private messages are better.

Plus it just makes you look like a dick to everyone else.
Went for a walk with my bro yesterday. Photographer at work:

:P
Man, models can look so silly when posing in real life, but can look so good when freezed by the magic of photototototography.
I feel like I was pretty reasonable with the criticism. I certainly don't feel like I came out as too rude.
Incoming very honest CC.
A lot of very generic photos, meaning I've seen it all before. A lot of them seem to be ideas that have inspired you to create the same thing. Step outside of your comfort zone. Try things you haven't tried. Be creative. Also, a tilted horizon doesn't make it ~artistic~ automatically. Like this for example. http://www.flickr.com/photos/theeyesofnicon/8442274527/in/photostream
It had SO MUCH POTENTIAL. I'm not even kidding. A burning house like this could go a long way with good use of your cameras metering and stuff. But a tilted horizon makes it look uh... yeah you know. I don't mean to be rude but it kinda ruins it.
I also notice you take a lot of shots standing up. Don't be afraid to get down on the floor and change your angle. The same scene at a different angle and perspective create two very different effects. For example this cat: http://www.flickr.com/photos/theeyesofnicon/8319645809/in/photostream
If you changed your perspective and got way down to the perspective of the cat or (if you dared) climbed above the cat for a top down shot. Either way, it would be much more creative than just on your two feet. It would completely change the picture. Right now it looks more like a snap shot than a photograph.
Your Nikon D3100 is a great entry level camera. Don't be afraid to play around with metering modes, or shooting modes. Research if you need to to learn more about utilizing light and using your camera to its full power.
Also, do you own a prime? I would highly recommend you purchasing some sort of prime lens and challenging yourself to only using that for a day or something. Forces you to move your body, not the zoom on your lens.
Yeah you are "teaching" him instead of giving points to think about and I know it's not your intention but even the first "sentence" without even a verb sounds dickish as in "not even worth to type a proper sentence"
"Step out of your comfort zone" always makes me think "how the fuck do YOU know what my comfort zone is, eh?"
" A burning house like this could go a long way with good use of your cameras metering and stuff."
Translates to "you didn't make good use of your camera metering".
It's all within reasonable levels though.
[editline]4th February 2013[/editline]
doing the same in this post
[editline]4th February 2013[/editline]
What I mean is you are mostly lecturing him about matters of taste and that's really up to him and the viewers of his pictures.
[editline]4th February 2013[/editline]
Targeting his overuse of a flash in those christmas pictures would've been more productive than "i don't like tilted horizon"
[editline]4th February 2013[/editline]
Or missing the point of long exposures by naming the picture "The Time Slows Down" while it's actually the opposite. The time speeds up to create that effect.
I feel like I was pretty reasonable with the criticism. I certainly don't feel like I came out as too rude.
You said more than one sentence on FB that comes off as rude
The "CC" he was looking for would be along the lines of "great pic OMG" and other generic responses of praise
