Went to a camera store and the guy offered me a Canon F1 with a 50mm for 105. good or no? I checked eBay and they went for 200+ I think. I wanted to see your guys' input
Depending on what kind of F-1 that is (new F-1, F1 original or F1n, yeah there are three versions). I would say that is a very good price for a Canon F1 in general.
I do not share the opinion with trogdon that a AE-1P is better than a Canon F-1. There is no camera that is better built than a Canon F1 in the whole FD range.
The F1 is made of brass, and the AE1P(not only the AE1P, but every A series FD canon out there) is made of metalized plastic. The F1 has a titanium shutter, the AE1P has a cloth shutter. You guess which one would last longer? Ofcourse, the F1.
I have both the Canon F-1 and new F-1 and i can say of these camera's that they are awesome camera's and a dream to handle (i'll give the edge to the new F-1 because it holds slightly better and the viewfinder is superclear).
The F-1 could litteraly survive a nuclear war, and you could beat a person to death with it and then take a picture you killed him with your camera
Though i agree with trogdon that a 50mm 1.8 is not worth it on a Canon F1, and it should atleast have a 50mm 1.4 lens on it. But if the camera is in good condition 105 usd is a total steal for the camera alone, i would see the 50mm as a extra.
I bought my new F-1 from BH in good condition for 199 usd (like this one)and i don't regret a single dollar for it.
I don't want to make a point saying that the F-1 would take better pictures, certainly not, but quality wise it kicks the ass of any other Canon FD body out there, even the T90.

Excellent portfolio.
I'd move that indian head dress picture to the first position though, it's the best out of those 3 in various.

Cheers for actually looking, appreciate it! I roughly organized those three by color actually, but I'll take your advice and just reverse the set.
so will the cancel the free one?
I called them to say cancel the debit but Amazon don't have that power, so I submitted a message saying to debit me again for the amount. Had it out today in Camden and it seems quite sharp, good to have it back since I sold another 50 1.8D last year to pay bills.

FACEPUNCH IS SO SLOW
oh i didn't realize that f1's were that rare, i'd say frag knows a lot more about me so i'd give the nod in opinion to him.
also bopie your portfolio is missing the excellent pictures of your brother with the marker on his face

From what I rememeber there was a rubber band over the camera to keep the bottom from going out, so yeah. But he did offer to find me the piece to keep it there so I guess it's nto THAT much of a problem.
It's not that i want to do like i'm a nerd; but yes, i do know a lot about canon fd camera's+lenses in particular
Ofcourse it's a opinion if you are willing to spend so much on a body like a F1, but yeah in my opinion, it's like buying a 5D now instead of a 600D these days.
Maybe some people won't agree on this comparison, but the F-1 was a pro camera and the AE-1 was a consumercamera and you will notice this difference when holding these camera's.
The Canon AE-1 or any A series camera's are good camera's, but they have their limitations that the F1 solves.
The Canon F-1 is a system camera with interchangable finders, prisms, motordrive/winder, etc.
If you need these things is a second, but it's nice to know you have a system you can build on.
Alright so I'll probably be leaning to go back to the store to buy it.

Depending from that info it certainly has to be the old version of the Canon F-1.
The bottom falls off when there is no battery compartment screw in the underside of the camera.
There are some slight differences between these 2 camera's.
In essence, it's a improved version of the original F-1.
The F-1n (not NEW F-1) has these tweaks:
Change the standard focusing screen from the A style (microprism only) to E style (split image with microprism ring).
Widen the film advance lever offset from 15 degrees to 30 degrees.
Decrease the winding stroke from 180 degrees to 139 degrees.
Increase the maximum ASA from 2000 to 3200.
Added a plastic tip to the advance lever.
Changed the mirror to transmit more blue light, thus making the image brighter.
Added a detent to the rewind crank to allow it to stay put when pulled out.
Added the capability to take a screw-in type PC sync socket.
Spring load the battery check position of the power switch.
Increase the size of the shutter release cup.
Added a soft rubber ring around the eyepiece.
Added a film reminder holder to the camera back.
Simplify multiple exposure procedure.
I still find it odd bopie's brother is the same age as me.(I think) :v:

whoa
Bopie mate. It's looking great.
Simple.
In other news, I'm in Jersey at the moment (if you don't know it, it's one of the English Channel islands off the coast of France - has its own money, parliment etc. but is a British territory). If any of you have read any of Gerald Durrell's books, you may be pleased to know I'm staying in his house at the moment at the Jersey Zoo. It's really nice. Weather's a little shit, but it's a great place.

went back to the camera store ready to buy the canon F-1, the guy tells me he bumped up the price. Bummer. he also told me he sold an olympic version of the F-1 for 175 when it's apparently worth a lot.

That's a bummer to hear, it was a great price..
The olympic version of the F1 is indeed worth a lot of money, because they were limited editions.
There are 3 olympic versions:
Canon F1 1976 Montreal olympics
Canon F1n 1978 Lake Placid Winter olympics
Canon new F-1 1980 LA Olympics
All these versions are worth a considerable amount on top of the standard versions because they are quite hard to get these days. Ofcourse the value is depending on the condition of the product. I once saw a Canon new-F1 LA Olympics version go for about 2000 usd mint in box with a 50mm 1.4 lens.
oh sorry i advised against it then though i feel bad :(
i have an AE-1P body i don't use, that i think is in good condition if you would want to negotiate a price, wouldn't charge more than shipping. i think there might be something wrong with the film threading though, i need to try a battery on it again
Was at the uni photo store today, when I heard the store owner advising the chap infront of me how to take the digital back off a Hasselblad carefully. One time when a student took it off to clean it, they pulled it straight down instead of straight back, two screws scratched the sensor which cost over £12k to repair. OUCH

It's all good. Mostly my fault, I asked AFTER I went to the shop for the first time. And I'll see about the AE-1P if youre still willing to sell it
Anyone in the UK want to buy a Pentax MX w/ SMC 50mm f/1.7? £35 including P&P or offers
Its in really good condition, fully working.

Of course I am!
Since it's just the body though, Would this work? Also I don't have a credit card or anything so I don't think I would be able to buy it via paypal or something. I think this case is absolutely ridiculous and would be a dangerous precedent is this ruling isn't overturned.
