Anyone know the best way for me to start if I want to get into sports/news photography?
Contact the local/small news outlets in your area and enquire about doing photo work for news and sports. See if you can get into sporting events in your area and produce some good photos to help sway them, same goes for news events if you can manage that.
I just took about 30 pictures of me cooking food for a project at school.
Guess what?
I forgot the memory card.

My iPhone 4S just arrived. I never really bothered with camera's on phones because the quality sucks, but judging from some testshots it's actually pretty good and very convenient to have a decent camera with you all the time.
So yeah cool
Yeah, the iPhone 4S' camera is really quite good. Compared to my 3GS, it's a beast.

Yeah, I went from the 3GS to the 4S with all it's flaws(not really iPhone only but phone camera's in general) it's great to have it with you instead of lugging a camera with you all the time

that's why i have release lock enabled. Saved me a few times
Some weeks ago i got the Minolta Rokkor 58mm f/1.2 lens.
Damn, i can't wait to use that beauty on my EOS camera with the Jim Buchanan lens mount conversion kit... (adapter is on it's way to me and i hope to have it by the end of this week or so)
Did a good few hours of product photography today for a shop in Bricklane. It was really good experience and the owner of the store who was also a visting lecture at my University, was impressed by the photos and I have an eye for a good photo. Its not paid work, but what's important is the experience and the fact I'll be credited on their site as well as having a very good reference for my CV.
Oh I almost forgot! Shooting with a Canon 20D and a 17-40L. Autofocus really is terrible! :v: Sharp results all the same.
what is a good entry level video camera, something cheap but still decent quality, 720p (and im just pulling this number out of the quality of 720p youtube vids) seems like a standard id like to meet
i've been wanting to get into video production and "film making" for a while now but i don't know anything about cameras :(

or even better: Sony NEX-5N?
550d looks quite good, thanks
or even better: Sony NEX-5N?
problem with 5n filming is there is no actual way to get 30p, because they use true interlaced video unlike the 5 which the 60i could be downsampled to 30p. so you are stuck with 60p and 24p at 1080, which isn't bad it just loses out on 30.
i'd still recommend it a lot because of the manual glass, old lenses are better for filming than newer lenses because of their focus indicators and such.
You could just take away every other 60p frame to get 30p?
you might be able to do that, but you are still taking double the amount of data because of having to record in 60p. i just remember reading about the 60i issue and it was a huge deal or something

that said the GH2 is probably the best mirrorless for video, and easily competes with most DSLR's as well.
http://vimeo.com/35827837
there's a video of it against the nex 7, granted the lens on the GH2 is a bit better than the one on the nex, but you can see how it looks quite a bit better.
I like my new photography teacher SO much better than my old one. Yesterday I actually learned something. He taught us about Push Pull Developing, and he also went over that when using a film camera, you don't just make it so your light meter is right, you actually have to know what you want so you can adjust your aperture/shutter to get what you want. (It does feel nice to be able to answer all his questions while the whole class has no clue :eng101: )
He actually CARES ABOUT COMPOSITION!
Also, figured out by selective focus they mean just a shallow DoF (low f-stop) and by Depth of field the mean a large, well, Depth of field (using f/22 or something similar)
My photo teacher has my class make comics, and zombifying our self portraits. The most "photoish" we got to photography was doing panoramas. Then again, he's more of a graphic designer guy. I don't know.

Well they seem to be very happy that I replied

[editline]2nd February 2012[/editline]
nice to see you around again.
Some company that found me through my portfolio: http://www.moments4life.co.uk
The documents they sent seemed fairly reasonable and everything seemed to check out.
[editline]2nd February 2012[/editline]
But the pictures on the site seem a bit stock photoish.
I mean, look at the photos and read this: http://www.moments4life.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=120&Itemid=8

wow
uh
Yeah. This is very sketchy.
The website is mostly unconfigured, full of stock photos and broken crap.
Terms of service buttons open a window with this:
"You haven't configured any terms of service yet. Click here to change this text."
Checkout system doesn't work at all and looks very broken.
The guy keeps switching between formal and informal English in e-mails

Maybe it's one of those scams where they set up a fake event I need to cover and then just steal all my equipment.

not that it matters, you're jaanus.
I've got a friend who's amazing at digging up the dirt on people, I'll shoot him the info. Not sure what he can do about people in the UK, but he's taken less info and dug up things like criminal charges dating back decades on people, it's like a fun way to make a hobby out of being a stalker :v:
See if he can find anything on me whiles he's at it!
see if he can find anything about me too
[editline]2nd February 2012[/editline]
MAYBE I'VE JUST BEEN LYING TO YOU ABOUT ME BEING A PHOTOGRAPHER
aw man my life is a bit too open so, have fun and see what you can dig up
All you're going to find on me is a bunch of really embarrassing posts.

Would be interesting to see exactly what though :v:
