D700 from what I understand.
It's the closest Nikon to the mkII, but I wouldn't call it an equivalent because there is a significant difference between the Nikon's 12mp sensor and the canon's 21mp sensor.
pay attention to sensor quality before sensor size, though shooting the 21 obviously has more potential for sharpness when scaling down.

Wise words. I work at best buy in the digital imaging department (cameras, camcorders, etc.) and I have to explain the concept to idiot customers all day.
just read DPreview's review of the Nex 7, and they said it has the best image quality of any APS-C sensored camera to date. that's a pretty good thing for sony.

Now if only they made a single lens I would want to put on that camera...
yeah the lens selection is pretty bad unless you are adapting glass.
Also I've been booked for a photo gig on the 10th, some 15 year old's going away party. Anyway it's 5 days away and she still doesn't know where it actually is, she just says that "The DJ is organising that, he's a little slack". If she thinks she can get a venue booking this time of year in 5 days she must be mentally disabled or something.

I'm not sure if it was DPreview but wasn't the high ISO quality a big step back due to the megapixel count? I think all the other pros would outweigh it, just that the 5N was superb with high ISO quality.
well the more megapixels definitely means the image was noisy at the full 24mp, but if you scale it down to the 5N's resolution of 16.1 then the image will be pretty much exactly the same in terms of noise performance. plus with handheld twilight high iso images aren't much of an issue anyways.
Good point. I find the 16mp I work with to be a bit too much. Publish them online in full size to Flickr as a means to back them up with my pro account. I emailed Grays of Westminster (who are Scientologist Nikon overlords I'm not kidding GOOGLE IT!) and MPB Photographic for a rough sum I could get for my current gear. Whatever I do my SB-700 is going, I never use it.
i know what you mean, 14.2 is a bit much for me especially because most things don't even look that good 100%. unless it's like f4 of a 50mm lens.
are you selling your d7000 in favor of a nex?
Hopefully this somewhat fits in this thread, I'm pretty new to this sort of thing.
Anyways, you know what really sickens me? This stuff.

Why would she even use a DSLR? Sometimes it really makes me upset how people like her start using expensive cameras and use it only to take selfies. And people comment on these things and say "omg ur a great photographer" or what not.
Rant over. :c
Gotta edit this post, I don't think I'm done yet.
First off I probably can't explain this right but oh well. Anyways, I hate how a large portion of DSLR purchases are made by these girls- which in a way, makes photography look much more casual and "easy to master", almost. It's just ridiculous. I've got a lot more to say but by now you probably understand-ish. Okay now my rant is over :v:

are you selling your d7000 in favor of a nex?
I started to think I would just get a 5N as a bro for my D7000, which quite a few people have done and some have even replaced the D7000 with a 5N. Lots of people called it stupid, and others couldn't blame them because they find the 5N so handy. I could sell my D7000 and the gear I have with it, despite not being heavily invested in Nikon gear would net me a grand or so to spend on a new system. Problem is not a stellar lineup of lenses, and I want to do lots of studio work this year so I kinda need a hotshoe = NEX7. I'll wait and see, because I can afford to get a 5N now. What do you think?
well the d7000 is a great camera. if you are looking for more studio stuff the nex won't perform as well. the nex7 flash can't wirelessly trigger other flashes, and the hotshoe is the minolta proprietary type.
O SHIT! Funny you should say that, watching DigitalRev earlier Kai reviewing a Sony camera mentioned the minolta proprietary hotshoe and how that's dumb! Surely a minolta type hotshoe IR trigger, but that's just awkward. The gear we use at uni just uses the standard ISO hot shoe.
For what you use, do you reckon you'll stay with a NEX or save up for a more traditional DSLR body?
they have an adapter for the normal hotshoe but it's like $30 and kind of bulky.
i'm never going to own a dslr camera, i went nex and i never plan on going back, just going to eventually try and get the nex 7 or whatever comes down the road. hoping they eventually make one that has sensor shift image stabalization and a full frame sensor, that's pretty much the only thing i want out of them they don't have.

Sorry if late, haven't been on facebook recently.
"The video section will record pixel-for-pixel Full-HD 1080p resolution with selections for 30p and 24p frame rates in this iteration, and 720p at up to 60p for slow-motion work. The camera now includes support for the H.264 B frame compression scheme."
Lots of videographers just sighed not getting 1080p with 50p/60p! :v:
Sold off my 24-70L for a 35L. I pretty much have my dream team of primes assembled now -35|50|85-
Cueball style snapshot of my brother to start things off. Not quite used to such a wide perspective, but I'm really excited about it.

Oh, and I went ahead and sent my port into CalArts, won't hear back until around March. Anxiety.
dude you'll get into calarts i promise. what was the motivation behind selling the 24-70, not wide enough aperture and size?
^more pictures of mark.
what was the motivation behind selling the 24-70, not wide enough aperture and size?
Like you said, 2.8 just wasn't enough and it was physically too large. I never used it, and when I did it was always at 35 or 70. The 35L is like a beer can, and you can't deny 1.4.
I hated selling it, as dumb as that sounds. I get emotionally attached to my stuff and have trouble letting go, especially lenses and cameras. I had a hard time selling my 500D, but that was just to my best mate. I'm pretty sure the guy that got my 24-70 is of the 'that' persuasion. I get sick just thinking about it, but at least it will get some use. There's a little ring on my desk where it used to stand, it's really depressing to look at.

Eagerly observing light out the window, waiting for some more orange. Any advice for a self portrait? Thinking of doing face & shoulders.

It's up again!
later shitlords
Anyone have dreams relating to cameras? I had a weird as fuck dream last night where I was somehow able to afford a Leica M9 of all things! I kept thinking holy shit while staring at it out of the box but it didn't have a lens. Didn't matter to me seemingly! I picked it up and looked around, got to the back of the camera body and it didn't have a screen but, these cheap compartments that you would find in a toy for say batteries and the like. I dug a load of plastic pieces out of the compartments to find nothing inside the camera at all, it was an empty shell. Turned it around to look at the front and it wasn't a Leica at all! THEN I WOKE UP! WHAT DOES IT MEAN FP
I need to stop drinking so much squash before bed! :v:
I made a video and it's got 100 views but I only posted it on fb and it didn't get any likes
