Stupid question, but is there ever a reason to not have the polarized lens/filter(?) on?
A polarizer also reduces the light coming through by 1 stop, so it's not good to use in dark environments. Also any filter will reduce the sharpness of the lens.
A polarizer also reduces the light coming through by 1 stop, so it's not good to use in dark environments. Also any filter will reduce the sharpness of the lens.
since I'm using TMax400 film mostly right now, I don't really worry too much about the sharpness of the lens overall because of the grain it naturally produces. I LOVE keeping my red filter and a polarizer on my film camera for walkin' around because I can pull wider apertures in direct sunlight for all sorts of shenanigans, and the red filter darkens (blue) skies and makes skin really high-key only downside to the skin thing is lips are just as light as skin sometimes, depending on lipstick. also orange/white caution stripes just vanish, it's one of those "man am I dumb" moments trying to figure out why a pattern you liked just vanished from your film
Just wondering, what's better: Tumblr or Flickr?
Just wondering, what's better: Tumblr or Flickr?
Flickr if you want to upload pictures and be taken seriously Tumblr is good for things like 365 projects though.
'There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more' guys help me think of photos for lines 3, 4 & 5. need as many ideas as possible
Also, went to an open mic night at a cafe in town tonight to see my friend Sam play. He introduced one of his new songs by explaining that he'd written it after being inspired by one of my photographs. That was nice :)
I was on my phone when writing that. Here's the said photo in question :) Man in Pub by edwin.quast, on Flickr
I think i got some particles on my viewfinder thing on my ae-1p. anyone know how to get rid of it? or should i just live with it
I think i got some particles on my viewfinder thing on my ae-1p. anyone know how to get rid of it? or should i just live with it
i have some on mine, i think it's from the mirror. if there's stuff still there check the finder, and the top of the prism, but either way it won't actually affect image quality because it's not on the film
Flickr if you want to upload pictures and be taken seriously Tumblr is good for things like 365 projects though.
Well, I don't think flickr is exactly the best place to get taken seriously. 500px is better.
Just got my Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 HSMII. Too bad I didnt have enough money for the OS version, but this lens is AWESOME. Buy it. Now.
Well, I don't think flickr is exactly the best place to get taken seriously. 500px is better.
So far, I've found the 500px community no better than Flickr. It has a great portfolio function, but it's full of nudes (and what they incur). It has just the same sort of people (including myself) who've made a semi-switch and just used it as a Flickr substitute (with its better design and layout with that cleaner feel) - carrying with them that old Flickr mentality. I guess we're just too far ingrained in how we do things now to change. I'll be really interested to see how the online photography community changes over time (including ourselves here on Facepunch) with new tech and fashions.

I haven't dug into it but it SEEMS like it's a different approach to how tumblr does stuff with reblogging. Unfortunately, zero professional community, which is kinda what we're looking for. I think the closest thing we'll really get to what we're looking for is smaller, more openly honest communities like our little clique here. The only way to really rid an art community of popularity whoring via comments/groups/shinytrophypictures is to bring it down to this, which probably won't happen; We are built on discussion, not correlations to favorites, followers and viewcounts.
Flickr : Congrations, you wont the "Insert witty name" prize in category "Mostly close-ups" Just because you can make close-ups of flies doesnt mean you need an award :( Theyre worthless anyway.
We got a D3100. Now I just need to learn how to take better pictures.. Any tips?

It must've been edited in, right??

Definitely edited in. It has no shadow and the quality is different from the ground right next to it. The edge also seems odd.
And you can see the snow on the ground through the dog.
Look at all the comments though...... People seem to love it...
Look at all the comments though...... People seem to love it...
I noticed that. :suicide:
Oh my god. He is even suggesting that it is legit. "Sheila often will start down various paths, then turn and wait for us to follow. We've had much fun following her lead."

Don't worry guys, it's a 'Concept Image'
I was called a hipster for carrying my camera around by a friend. I sort of see it, but don't really picture hipsters as people with real cameras(Ie non polaroid). Anybody have similar experiences?
I'm called a hipster all the time by my friends. But it's not really a big deal. My friends mainly call me a hipster for riding bikes and using messenger bags and being interested in photography.
But bikes are the best? Another silly question. Even though the light meter in my camera says it will be under developed, will that always be true? (May be bashed for this comment) It didn't look dark at all.
I wear a scarf some times because my friends razz me about being a hipster doesn't help I wear a sixpence 24/7, but it's a look that actually works good on me. I actually get compliments on my hat a lot in public, it's kinda weird besides, my grandpa wore these before they were cool so HE'S the hipster and I'm following a trend (therefore negating hipsterdom) also I only really consider someone a hipster photog if I see them in public if they're: >carrying a holga/other toy camera >carrying a cup of starbuck's coffee and have any form of camera visible >dressed like a terrible hipster stereotype and have a DSLR hanging off their neck tourist-style >talking with their hipster friends about how much they aren't a hipster whilst taking a picture with their iphone >bopie :v:
