I like this subforum.
You're all super friendly compared to Hardware or Automotive Addicts (although I cause most disputes there).

It's interesting how most subforums have their own general chat thread which is pretty much all the regulars talking about stuff, sometimes related to the subforum topic.

idk
this isn't the cueball relationship thread anyway let's calm it down
it is the photo offtopic thread though, just ask her if she's alright and shit i suppose..
anyway, hopefully going to get some good shots today, we got some really moody cloudy weather atm and my hair has decided to actually be flat for the first time in well, ever.
I see good things ahead
Anyone got any tips on shooting outdoors in rainy conditions without a weather sealed camera?
I have a D5100. I've heard lens hoods are good for keeping water off the lens for starters.
yeah I kinda want to know that myself, the pentax k-r i've got is the school's camera, not mine, I don't want to get it damaged.. i'm not afraid to take it out, just a bit concerned...
might just chuck it inside a plastic bag and tie that around the lens
i spent a good couple hours today trying to digitize some film photos
first i scanned the negs with my little neg scanner thing, but i realized it doesn't reproduce colors as well as i'd like and then it crashed
scanner of the 4x6's took forever and didn't look spectacular
then i just took pictures of them with my digital, but then reflected light hurt the images
i think i'll just stick to looking at my film pictures by myself until i get my v500 working lol

This should protect it from a couple water splashes, maybe even rain if you cover the zip thingy in duct tape or something.
Or you could get a water/weatherproof case, they're not *that* expensive
guys, my mum just told me to take some nice photos of my cat because he has been booked in to be put down tomorrow morning. I feel like my camera is tainted now :(
also, because the images are going to be blown up i set up a few brenizers but i dont have photoshop at all so would anyone mind doing the automerge for me if i emailed them the files?
He's gone guys, dead and buried. RIP Monty <3
About weathersealing.
Last weekend i walked outside with my EOS 40D and 28-80 f/2.8-4L which both arent weathersealed (well the 28-80L really isn't, the 40D a little bit).
The camera and lens were both soaking wet because of the rain, and it happened twice that day.
I just wiped the camera with a tissue and it still works fine.
This isn't the first time i get my camera all wet, it happened to me before in Thailand when i was on the river Kwai bridge, but i had my 17-40L which is weathersealed on the camera then. Even my Canon F1 was soaked once.
Main story line: camera's are just ok with rain (even if they are not weathersealed) but it's more a problem that the owner thinks it can't handle it. Even a 1000D can handle getting all wet, you just need to wipe it off properly after doing that though.
Really, that weekend i saw somebody with a 7D and a 70-200 2.8L lens that was afraid of his lens getting wet and putting a plastic bag around it. [rant] IF YOU HAVE A WEATHERSEALED LENS YOU SHOULDNT PUT IT IN A BAG YOU PUSSY[/rant]
Dai, I just gave you a dollar because I bought a title for someone.
BECAUSE I'M TRYING TO MAKE MYSELF ACCEPTED HERe

waitwhat
The original teapot is in display, so I'm guessing you mean one exactly like it?
That's still cool as fuck and sounds like an amazing gift for a modeller or someone who works with 3D graphics :v:
Anyone recommend a "cheap" non-digital hotshoe viewfinder, 22-35mm?

Congrats man, I know I'd like to have one just to talk about what it represents while serving tea or whatever.

...I thought hotshoe viewfinders were like, an urban myth nowadays.
On that topic, I cannot stand taking pictures using a camera screen.
Somone talk camera bags with me. I need one. What's top of the line? Whats mid? etc?
Went to best buy (not the best place for these things but I have $40 to spend there) and actually really liked this canon bag.

I got this one. Doesn't look like a camera bag, plus handy pockets for other things.

camera bags doesn't matter a huge amount, unless you're specifically looking for something that's like water proof or something
just get something you're comfortable with, personally I use a carry bag not a backpack type thing because it allows me quick access too all my lenses and camera.
[editline]29th April 2012[/editline]
on an unrelated note, air show coming up soon, gonna take my camera (hopefully they're allowed there)
this is one of those army type air-shows, last time I went to it an airbus type plane did a low fly pass followed by an upwards spiral, not to mention the type of flights the attack jets were doing. should make for great shots

Bump, I need a quick answer.
worked with a guy yesterday who knew Samuel Bradley personally, was pretty surprised actually.
BlazeFresh, you asked for a large version of that pic a while ago, sorry I totally forgot.

Here you go, expect a noise-mess.
Today I'm officially becoming a member of my civil war reenactment group. This means I'll get all alerts instead of relying on my reenactment buddy(he's a great guy, but there's nothing better than hearing it from the guy who plans it all in terms of dates and reliability). Today we'll be doing a live-shoot that's member only. $20.00 annual fee, easily doable.
That all leads up to me getting into the atmosphere where I can take amazing pictures. The buildings in my area aren't that great, festivals are once in a blue moon, but reenactments are the cheapest and most entertaining. I'm teaching/telling him what I know about photography, as we plan to buy some 120 film for his Russian Lubitel. We went to a "major" camera store in my city, but arrived 23 minutes after it closed. Maybe you guys don't face this, but I've heard some camera store employees aren't that friendly to people new to photography?

Yeah. I agree on the quick access thing but I feel like there's not that much room. At least not as much as a backpack. There maybe be as much room by then wouldn't it have to be layered? So to get one lens out you'd have to take others out. One specific thing I'm looking for is room for a camera with a battery grip and a place to hold my tripod.
I don't really layer mine to much, I only have about 4 or 5 lenses, so my "layering" is like this, kinda
I have a seperate section where I keep 2 lenses up right, then I have the main section where I keep or 3 lenses and the camera sitting ontop of them. when I swap lenses I just chuck the lens I swap out into the spot I had the other lens sitting in.
it gets a bit messy but, how would you keep lenses in a backpack type thing? i've never had one of those but I imagine you sorta do the whole just chuck em in however type thing unless they've got those like sections..
either way, having to grab around for the right lens is quicker and easer than having to take a back off my back, unzip it and then do the same thing, for me anyway
Yeah backpacks have those arrangable sections.
