apply the depression to your photos, use your photos and editing of said photos as a way of expressing what you have pent up inside you. It'll help you become happier with yourself as you literally capture and apply it that way. Don't try to make your photos "good", make them representative of what you've got going on. It's easy to go out and go "oh this looks cool, i'll get a photo of that" when you're in a good mood, because when you're in a good mood you apply yourself to the world in a way that results in your photos being "better", but remember that that's still subjective. Try to find something that appeals to your current state and photograph that, it's trickier when your state is locked into your self, that's why I say apply yourself to it. Don't dwell in self pity, let the world around you pity you and make you feel better /my bullshittery for the day anyway, i think i've finally worked out why things like the shape of words make me uncomfortable, i've pretty much pinned it down to synesthesia between visual input, specifically shapes and the arrangement of shapes to emotion. It gets much stronger when I get high, and then noticing it that strongly makes me aware of it for the next few days, pretty much why I've quit getting high. it's weird though, the word google and reddit still give me a bit of an awkward feeling
Guys, I took a pretty neat picture, but I have absolutely no clue how I'm suppose to edit this one. It feels way too bland un-edited. But it feels way too overdone when I try to edit it. The picture has potential, and I don't want to waste that potential by messing up the editing. Accentuate the yellows and the reds on shadows and midtones, will warm the image and also reduce brightness and increase contrast.. this is just the standard procedure for editing photos for me

Ugh super tired, 3 finals in the next two days, no camera with me anymore since I had to move out of my dorm, and I'm out of money. I can't wait for the week after Tuesday. Wednesday, I'm going to Florida to camp with some friends, Friday I am going to a screening of The Room with a bunch more friends (and Tommy Wiseau is actually going to be there), and finally Saturday I'm going to a race. Loads of pictures to be taken. I just have to get over this hump of finals.
I'm getting my first (nice) camera in which I plan to use for a bit of photography. I'm going out West to do some climbing this summer; I'll be at sights like Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone, Devil's Tower, The Badlands, etc... The camera I'm looking to get specifically is an Olympus E-520. I'm not looking for anything that's superbly nice, this just seems to fit the quality I want and it's in the right price range. I mean for the deal I'm getting I can't go wrong with $350 bucks. Anyone have anything to say? When I get back I'd love to share some of my shots.
the e-520 is good, just a bit outdated. it can have lots of manual glass, but the fourthirds range of lenses aren't incredibly diverse, only the REALLY expensive ones are nice (oly's 14-35, 14-54, 35-100, and 150 are examples, well over $1000 each) awesome lenses, just pretty expensive
lately, there's been some discussion of criticism in the CPTDDAT thread... I think everyone here is pretty awesome and that many have a distinct style. And these are all styles I don't really see from anyone else (not that often, at least). And the more distinct it becomes, if you like it, the harder it is to criticize it. Because I'll see a latir-self portrait and think "wow. that's how it should be, since latir made it like that." or I'll see a bopie picture and be like, "that's a great shot of a girl in a field." (etc) by now I've fallen in love with the styles, even if they are actually flawed photos. so sorry if comments seem like they're shallow. I never post here but I love this forum. Even though I'm constantly so swamped with other stuff, you guys keep me interested in photography. I love seeing you guys grow and improve and expand. it keeps me eager for my own journey. shit now I feel like b-hazard. (don't worry, I love you, too. you just have a habit of pui.)
I was talking to a friend about what camera I should get, figured the following conversation would be relevant (And painful) to you guys
Coonie: Y'know how my school has like Coonie: 10 DSLRs Coonie: They're like Coonie: Eos 7Ds or something Wingar: eeee Coonie: And nobody can fucking use them properly Coonie: It is isn't on Auto, they use sport mode Coonie: So they're shooting indoors Coonie: With an extremely high shutter speed Coonie: And the pop up flash on full power Coonie: With a really high ISO Wingar: :c Wingar: humanity makes me sad Coonie: And how do these pictures get used? Coonie: Exported as a jpg Coonie: Shoved into photoshop to have the brightness adjusted Coonie: Scaled down to 500x300 Coonie: And printed into a newsletter Wingar: I'm crying
So excited for the next 2 weeks to fly by, I can feel the lie-ins omg
I'm doing a lot of travelling this year, and taking all three cameras on each trip.
Year book signing party (I'm a senior in high school) tonight, going to take my camera and take some memories. This will be my practice with people. I aim not to take the "Here's 3-5 people posing for a camera" but more natural in the moment photos.
Am I the only person who hates taking photos of people? It's just so awkward.
Am I the only person who hates taking photos of people? It's just so awkward.
Only way I could take proper pictures of people is with this thing
people are my favourite thing to take photos of.
I dunno. It's just not flattering. The more and more I get around to uploading photos to a website other than Facebook or imgur, the less I want to. I think I had a flickr account, but I deleted that. Anybody else find this problem? It's not because I don't want people to comment on my photos, it's just more not caring.
I haven't gone genuine people shooting yet, all friends or people I know/work with. The atmosphere tonight will allow me to get away with it, but I predict I'll be saying "Act natural" or "don't look at the camera please" a few dozen times.
I think this is the first bit of camera humor I understand. I'm making progress!
Until you said it was camera humor, I didn't think about the picture enough to get it. Then I realized, and have been laughing for quite a bit. Mostly at my own stupidity.
Clubs around town: please hire me your current photographers do a fucking terrible work
Back from the "party", took three pictures. I'm mad jealous of the majority of you, all living in such wonderful places. I live in a desert, and it doesn't get pretty until you're near the mountains.
Dude deserts are amazing what are you on about
Dude deserts are amazing what are you on about
As I said I'm too far a drive away from any pretty portions of it. My skill level doesn't equal the money I would spent on gas(not saying I sell my photos, but personal belief) to get to those areas.
all the desert is awesome, you just have to catch it at the right times. my favorite pictures i've gotten were walking distances away from my house. pretty is subjective, and can be more about lighting than actual beauty in landscapes. angles are important too http://www.flickr.com/photos/63755315@N08/6927222371/in/photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/63755315@N08/6907078254/in/photostream these were taken within walking distances from my house
I've seen many pretty areas, but it's an hour drive in any direction before I hit large area's with buildings not in sight. Also the skill thing, I'm working with film and for safety only having one complete roll at a time in-case I do something wrong.
Yesterday I was at a talk about the P vs NP problem. There was this photographer and I'm sure every one in the room wanted to murder her. There was one guy talking and she was constantly taking photos of him with the flash pointed backwards... and the next ceiling was probably more then 10 meters away. I mean it's ok to take 10 photos to be on the save side but she probably took 50 photos within an hour while blinding every one. Gosh, so annoying. If she will be there today I think I'm going to put that camera up her ass and flash a couple times.
I bet she kept taking photos because she couldn't work out why the photos she was taking weren't coming out right
Or maybe she was bored about the talk. It was about theoretical computer science.
does anyone have any experience with business cards? I'm trying to design mine now.
does anyone have any experience with business cards? I'm trying to design mine now.
Over in the creationism corner there is a graphic design thread. Back when I was more active over there they were pretty helpful and gave good feedback about topics like this. http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1102983
