Recently I've been quite angry, to say the least. At this private group for photgraphers which I follow at Facebook to get inspiration and feedback I see nothing but shitty photos coming from people with high-end equipment (5DMKii and so on) and I've been tolerant and stood silent.
Today I've seen the most utter shitties post in my life, coming from a guy with two external flashes and a Mark III. I've replied with ''If I wouldn't see your profile picture, I would guess this photo was taken with a 2004 Motorola phone''. I received an angry email, saying I'll be blacklisted from the photography industry in Israel and I should be ashamed.
Should I?

the guy sounds like a total wanker, and while what you're saying may be true, you probably should have left the group months ago instead of insulting him.
First year of uni finished, excelled in my photo crit. Will get it uploaded and share with you guys soon, I'd like to know how you all read it. Lecturer gave me four rolls of 120 film, ranging from VC to Superia because he heard I got a hasselblad, same day I get 5 rolls of velvia in the post! Now have about a dozen rolls of 120 and a lot of uni facilities to share with MA students till July. Happy days.

congrats man!
I've nearly finished my first semester of Uni, and I'm totally hating it. I'm doing Computer Science, which I really love, but the stuff we're learning I just don't care about. I think I'm gonna defer next semester and read lots of books that I want to read (on compsci), and do a heap of client work / personal projects. That's what I'm already doing... just ignoring Uni work to do it :/.
Congrats on the uni bro, post pics asap.
i get really irked when people buy decent kit and then leave it in aperture priority and use it as a point and shoot, i have about 4 friends who do this :(

pretty much this; would have been better to just quietly leave them to be terrible by themselves, but at the same time, the guy sounds like a dick, so fuck it.
the bit about the photo industry sounds like a kid i ran into on a tf2 server earlier today actually, who was being all "I KNOW THE ADMIN PERSONALLY AND IF U DONT STOP KILLING ME WHEN HE COMES BACK YOU GET BAN!!!!!!"
actually, only one of them knows what aperture even means, the rest leave it in program :(

gah, automerge

on a DSLR, I shoot in aperture priority 95% of the time :X
though this is only because I've found that I'm not quick enough in manual to not miss shots, and in Av you still get enough control; also adjusting exposure compensation is quicker than switching between setting aperture size and shutter speeds
[editline]14th May 2012[/editline]
also it's nice to have the camera set on spot metering and just quickly pick up the shutter speed from somewhere in the scene and lock it

I have it on Aperture Priority, my camera seems to do a good job of changing the shutter speed. Those integrated light sensors are helpful.

five then
I- I'm not fast enough to change all the manual settings!
Built a window mount for a project today.

Seems to support small DV cameras okay and with no wobble. Next challenge is seeing if it can handle a T2i (that photo was NOT takes with the T2i, if you are wondering).
Always always always aperture priority, especially on mirrorless. Changing exposure compensation is much easier to achieve a specific look for me if the light meter isn't reading where I want it to

It's horribly autistic. It's part of a project to do a side-by-side comparison with the last one that was done in 1985.

It is useful i know, i do use it frequently.. what i forgot to say is that they just don't touch the exposure controls at all.. just leave it at f/5.6 or whatever and thats it :( even when shooting in a studio environment at school :(

Would love to see the finished product. The development along the line has changed so much, especially near Joyce Station.
Sweet. So I just got free entry to a festival if I take some photos for the weekend :)
I think I should do that, I've always wanted to film a long car journey or something
at the very south of england there is a touristy location called lands end, i've been there a fair few times and there is a little side attraction where they show an 8 minute reel of a car journey from Lands End to John o Groats which is at the very north of scotland (another place i've been to). Quite an interesting watch seeing a car fly through england and scotland at the equivalent of 16,000 mile p/hour

Sick, you got it! I knew they'd accept you haha, how could they not. Well done mate.
I wasn't so sure. Especially when they said they had another photographer.
But hey, glad I don't have to cough out the money for something I was going to go to (and photograph) anyway.
Also, it's like the migration of the wildebeest across the Serengeti. Nobody wants to be the first one in the river for fear of the crocs.
Same with my mates, nobody wanted to commit themselves to buying a ticket (also, we're students and it's hard to part with over your weekly budget), but now I know I'm going for certain, a few friends have got theirs :)
It's going to be a good fucking September.
What festival is it?
Small independent one in Kent.

The Smugglers Festival.
I know quite a few of the people in some the bands playing, they're all fairly local.
Like: Rae.

I can't stop listening to this song. The first time I heard her sing was sitting around a campfire - blew us all away.
And Syd Arthur:

Who are from Canterbury.
Like I said, I was going to go anyway, and just have an awesome weekend with all my musician friends completely wasted. Now I don't have to pay, get to have a great time still and will come out with some nice shots at the end of it, which is always a bonus.
Sounds awesome!
