Yea when I said you should jump on the Electro I completely forgot about the whole discontinued battery issue. When I got mine the whole battery compartment and cap were missing, I had to jury rig a new one using that adapter. One of my two projects for the summer is properly making a new holder for the battery... When you buy replacements though, don't buy alkaline batteries. Buy the silver oxide ones, I made the mistake of buying an alkaline 6V and the battery was dead before I could finish a roll (about 2 weeks of life).
Alrighty, thanks for the tips. :>
I'm in a list along with Daijitsu and Latin_Geek? This poster is definitely crazy
Gee, thanks. Now my modesty meter is broken.
Can anyone help me out here? My D60's light meter is waaay off for some reason. I was trying it out and noticed it would always say my shots would come out underexposed and it kept telling me that I needed to use a flash, but even then the photos come out just fine. Some are even overexposed. Is there any setting I can adjust to compensate for the light meter thinking things are too dark? I tried Googling for a few minutes but I couldn't find anything.
what mode are you shooting in?
Two weeks after a hard drive crash, one week after furiously recovering data, I've managed to only lose 12 photos, out of 1323. I'm pretty sure over the next week I'll be able to find low resolution versions on Facebook and Flickr of them, but nothing replaces the 41 (out of 668) RAWs I've lost.
what mode are you shooting in?
Manual.
Have you checked the exposure compensation?
Yeah, it was like +1 regular and -3 flash compensation, but I reset it all to 0.
What's Flash compensation?
It uses a Mallory TR164, or an Eveready 164. And you are correct, the batteries for a Yashica are all discontinued, do to the fact that they all contained mercury within the cell. I'm not entirely too sure if he's sending in an adapter with a battery, or an oldschool battery, but I did find a link to buy an adapter. http://www.yashica-guy.com/document/battery.html
yeah, I'm in a similar predicament with finding a battery this week for the minolta srt101, I meant to go to the store and see if they had an existing alkaline 625-numbered button battery. Otherwise I have to get my meter back from a friend before I have to give the camera to my boss guy. OH, the boss the job guys GUYS so you guys know all the crap I went through with proshooter and the architects and all that I wouldn't shut up about it I've been doing contract work with them since friday the 8th, in-office. despite missing three of the past 11 workdays (due to lack of anything to do at the start), I worked 60 hours the first week (plus the friday before), and another 60 this past week, and they're officially hiring me in (hourly at first "just in case we can't find work for you to do full-time" which there won't be any problem with) as of this monday The contract work has been at $35/hour, minus one project which ran up to about 60 (over 22 hours). Getting 21/hour as part-time til they can confirm I have enough work to cover being booked 40 hours a week. (which sucks because I run out of time quick because there's always work to do) I'm going to be: • one of the 3D rendering specialists (next to my dad who they hired in 4 months ago, buying out my company and leaving me to fend for myself for a while) • the official photographer; the boss loves that I'm fixing up his old film equipment, I also fixed up the designer guy's Nikon FG after he saw me working on the boss guy's stuff. There's potential they'll pick up a tilt shift lens to use • The right hand man of the main IT guy (who's the person I worked through as an independent 3d artist, and also the guy who pushed to get me hired in), who practically runs the business himself since he knows all of the programs and equipment; problem is he's swamped and doesn't have time for the more menial stuff, so I started out by putting together five new computers with $80,000 worth of fully licensed software, one of the computers going to me, with ALL of the software as opposed to the basics. Gonna upgrade me to CS6 soon. There's also potential for me to travel for business (as official photographer dude), so I have to get a passport set up. The week before I showed up they sent some guys out to Saudi Arabia to talk with some rich tycoons about their restaurant chain, and they took photos with their cell phones. 'll be working on for the 3D aspect of work and will know it inside and out, so hopefully they'll do what I've always bitched about them not doing and send me to take pictures of the things that I specifically need pictures of to complete my projects for them. it's hilarious when people see me at my own cubicle (most people have to share them with two or three people, but mine is slightly shorter anyways and I need the space to work on computers and such), two giant monitors and a new computer, my tablet, my space mouse, and a 3D model of the project they were just drafting on my screen. I've had at least 8 or 9 instances in which people thought I was a little highschool kid interning or visiting a parent (Doesn't help that my dad has introduced me to a few people as his son). I'm 24 years old and I've had three other people ask these questions, and end up being 24 as well. "Soo... are youuuu... in schooool? orrr, taking classeeeessss?" "are you enjoying yoooouuurrrr summmmeeerrrr in-tern-ship...?" "oh man I thought you were like, 15, but you couldn't be doing this who are you?" oh man I just augh fucking finally
Congrats, Dai!
it must be such a good feeling to respond to their 'are you in school' comments with 'no I'm actually an employee and doing pretty well e.t.c'
Must be pretty good to do what you know and love for a living.
Have you ever gotten in trouble because someone thought you would have a fake id when you tried to buy liquor?
Watching a doc on Sybille Bergemann, I can't really like her as a person, especially the way she's talking, but her work is... amazing. [editline]1st July 2012[/editline] Gah I have about 200 pics of the Warsteiner Balloon festival waiting in my cam and NO way to view them since I had to go somewhere else the next day graah
Have you ever gotten in trouble because someone thought you would have a fake id when you tried to buy liquor?
I've been accused of it being fake twice, both times when not actually buying liquor. The first time was when I was at a wal mart, I was going to buy some energy drinks because I'm pretty much lethargic without them, and they're kept at the opposite end of the same aisle as the liquor since people like them for mixing. Halfway down the aisle this old dude (who I'm pretty sure didn't even work at wal mart) yelled "you're not supposed to be in this aisle!" and got all uppity about it. When I said it didn't matter because I was over 21 anyways, he asked for my ID. I was so amused that I whipped out my licence and showed it to him (not handing it over, just holding it up), and he started grumbling about how it's a fake and I'm a liar and just started walking away. Weird but hilarious the second time was a cop that pulled me over thinking I was "driving suspiciously". I think it was just an excuse to just keep digging at me to find something he can ticket when I wasn't doing anything though there was also this time recently I was at the liquor store and when I set my stuff down at the counter, the old lady who had just checked out looked at me weird and walked to the door, then stood in the way of the door. When I brought out my ID and showed it to the cashier (and he looked at it and nodded with raised eyebrows), the lady said "OHH, I thought you were going to steal something, haha. You don't look old enough to buy it!" exciting stuff

Back from a 9 day vacation with no cell service or internet. Kind of disappointed I only got a few good shots but I think one of them is at least somewhat creative. (I will want crits when I finish editing and posting in the creative thread)
So I'm looking at pictures I'm going to edit, and I'm worried. I took a lot of pictures using a custom picture style, and they look fine on the camera, but on the computer, it has them as if they were shot in standard and they're ugly as hell. Is it possible to fix it without having to figure out how to photoshop them all? Edit: They look fine when viewing the file thumbnails or the RAW files from the camera. Maybe bridge doesn't read the styles or something? What the heck? Going to convert to jpeg to see if that works. Edit: Nope. Didn't work. Back to google. Edit: God dammit. Pictures styles don't apply to RAWs, only jpegs. Great. Just great.
Got my £10 camera today :DD
I want to get back into photog I haven't taken a good picture in like a month, hell I've stopped reading this subforum :v:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/36MDy.png[/t] I realize that I've been a bit of a dick recently, and I apologize, but Bopie has been extremely rude to pretty much everyone on this forum. Personally, I think there are much better photographers in this forum like QuickSnapz, Daijitsu, LatinGeek, Inzalonus, Moarfunz, Kabstrac, and many more. (User was banned for this post ("did you not learn the first time" - daijitsu))
The fuck, I'm not a good photographer I have a hard time calling myself a photographer

Just takes work. It always looks better when you do it yourself :)
Are there any good places to share my photos you guys recommend? I'm just sharing 'em on Facepunch now. [editline]3rd July 2012[/editline] Sometimes Facebook.

None of us here really are so long as we are willing to take constructive criticism on board, we all produce some really good pieces and some mediocre, the balance between the two is what we need to work on, if it's heavily balanced towards mediocre we should work to balance it out more towards the good work. I agree with the have a hard time calling myself a photographer thing, i've found recently I just havn't been inspired and can't really take much of anything. Kind of like a writer's block, but with photos I guess

My best friend asked me to do her senior portraits. I think I will but I have no idea what I'm doing. I don't have a flash or a nice lens. She said she would take care of the prints and find a location and what not, I would just need to take the pictures. I was thinking of taking the pictures, and saying "You can have all the files and do what you want with them, but I'll photoshop 6 or 7 of them for you and make them look better/remove blemishes or whatever needs to be done." Does this sound reasonable? I'm not worried about the money, I'm more worried about the product.
