I love the idea of digital film backs, would want one for the ae1p
I've always really loved that concept but are the distances between the roll, the exposure area, and the take up spool standardized though? The Diana Mini is an extreme example, but there must be a huge diversity of minute variations.
If not, I suppose manufacturers could get the length of the device as short as possible, then make the ends sizable to stretch/contract to fit various cameras and allow the user to center the sensor over the exposure area.
It would be a nice and cheaper way to get your hands on a really solidly built and weather resistant digital camera.
I could see there being Nikon and Canon versions of digital film backs.
It would also be cheaper to upgrade just the sensor every time, rather than the entire camera.
i got some glasses yesterday.
whipped the pentax out my bag.
holy shit, focusing is so much quicker when you can SEE
If digital film backs slid in cleanly like that I would be the happiest camper.

The first example shows a device at variable lengths, the second one wouldn't work, I think with how precisely different the film loading places are in cameras it would make a significant impact and require specified backs. They could make them for popular models like the AE-1P, and Olympus OM1N
It sounds really hard to implement but if done correctly it would be cool
Some people here are quite into camera equipment it seems, almost more then the motive.

Really if you get 39 lenses and 173 filters you're only going to end up using like 2 filters and 2 lenses; for me, that is enough. At all times I carry around the Canon 24-105L and Canon 100-400L. No need to have much more then that for most people.

I've always seen that Topaz's suite has potential as an editor, but the only time I see it praised is by HDR-rapists. This article is almost insulting, the guy shot a 7-exposure real HDR, then tossed it into topaz to boost things then use a preset that literally just inverts the image. It isn't some fancy film-emulating "color negative" process, you can literally open that up in photoshop and hit CTRL+I to see what his image looked like before. if you ask me he absolutely trashed a half decent HDR.

It is a hobby in itself. It's like me and Facepunch's LaparNar. When it comes to space, he likes the technical things; the space ships and such. I just love space itself. And when we photograph, same story.
So I had the first day of shooting my friends senior pictures today. I now know why overcast days are much better than sunny days. It was hard to get a shot in the shade where the lighting was even. I also want a decent flash now. And lastly I learned that you don't want the sky. On a sunny day like today, it was just blown out. My friends mom said she would just buy me a memory card for me to use, and she ended up bringing a 2GB one from walgreens. I did happen to have a micro SD card adapter so I took my 4gb micro card out of my phone and threw that in my camera. The rest of my SD cards, a friend had because he was taking footage from a wedding we shot off of them.
All in all I'm going to be ready for the second shoot.

I just like knowing what I'm buying and making the best decision. My most expensive lens was $200. It's not like knowing technical details and taking good photos are mutually exclusive.
I;m a wee bit worried and pissed right now. So you know how I had to take some pictures on a MicroSD card with a SD adapter? Well I had a full 4GB of pictures, and when I put the memory card back in, and plugged my camera in, it says there is nothing there. Not a single thing. And when I put the microSD card in my phone, the icon says it's pretty much empty except for my songs and pictures...
Fuck fuck fuck fuck me
So apparently I am performing a wedding ceremony tonight, that was a random phone call. Guess I'll take a film picture or two while I'm at it
I MAY HAVE LOCATED THEM
So I'm doing photography for a family wedding, seemed perfectly fine until I was told there would be no professional photographer. So, anyone have tips?
(also the fp 9.8 KB avatar size limit SUCKS)
Rent a nice flash. Get a time with just the bride and groom as well as all the bridesmaids and groomsmen. Have them do some nice ones as well as a silly one or two. Capture all the cliche moments you can, of the cake before it's cut as well as the actual cutting, the first dance...you get the point. Most weddings go into the night, so a lens with a wide aperture will be useful so you don't have to drop below 1600 if you're not using a flash. I'm not a wedding photographer so I'm just going off of what I have done when I do wedding videos, and have seen photographers do at weddings.

Do not attach it to your camera, and make sure it has a big softbox if you do.

I own an SB-800 speedflash and a basic triggering kit.
Uh my D80 can only go up to 1600 standard (not counting H1 which has kinda bad noise)
This wedding is in the daytime I think.

Listen: Don't write to the card. Put it in the camera and see if it thinks it's still on it. 4GB of pictures doesn't disappear.

I think I got them all now, I guess I moved them earlier....but when I put there card in, the camera wouldn't turn on.
Quick question.
Is everyone able to use the youtube livestream feature if you have google+?
I got this message on my channel.

Man, I am really having a hard time nailing skin tones. Does anyone know any good tutorials on how to make them look not so...bad.
show us an example?

This for instance. It's really difficult to explain what I mean. Just feels "dark" but most of my images tend to end up like this in terms of tone. I just don't know how to properly brighten it up without it looking like ass.
i think you should just overexposure. i don't think the skin tones look bad though. i've always just overexposed to compensate for skin though
Typed out a huge thing then remembered stumbling upon this.

Skip to like 2:20, you don't have to do it his way, you just need to isolate the skin in an above layer.

Thanks, I'll give this technique a try
So I was on my computer today, and a friend had just tweeted about the lightning being cool, so I looked out the window, and sure enough, there was lightning and no rain. So I scooped up my camera and ran outside. Never having shot lightning, nor ever tried, I had no idea what the best settings were, but I eventually figured bulb mode worked the best. I was a little disappointed because of the amount of trees on my street that were blocking a lot of the lightning and the one stupid street light that was right where the only opening was. I really wanted to get on the roof, but then I had second thoughts about that. After a while I felt a drop or two fall so I decided to just go in. Got inside, set my camera down, and boom it started to pour.
I took some video and some shots, I'll have to post them later once I look through them. But, it was fun just to run out there and try something I haven't done before.
