Hey I'm doing a new college project and the unit is "what does extreme mean to you" I was just wondering what peoples thoughts on what it meant to them are? So far i've gone with a post apocalyptic theme but i'm not sure what else i could do.
I think it should be personal. Don't go with a large theme, but rather choose a theme from something in your life. My friends and I do urban climbing and get on the roofs of buildings. That is "extreme" to me. I feel as if the topic is directed towards you as a person and not just a "think of something extreme".
Looking for a tripod but don't want to risk buying a cheap one for the 5D. Considering this one. What are your thoughts? I mean its a little pricey but a good investment.
doesnt have attachments between the poles/to the middle, might just be me but i would be so paranoid that the legs would split outwards
Mine doesn't have the attachment between the poles and the middle either, and it's perfectly safe. It also lets you open the legs out really far and get the tripod really low.

Gentlemen, bought a digital camera, and it should arrive here shortly. Anyways, with that, I've been looking around, and I've seen a lot of photographers able to grasp that "film look" with post-processing. Do you guys know any techniques or plugins I can use to achieve that?

It's funny because (imo) Ektar looks the most neutral and like digital than any other film.
Are we ever going to hear of the results of the winter photo contest? I would at least like to know who won.
Are we ever going to hear of the results of the winter photo contest? I would at least like to know who won.
there was a lot of very strong entries so i reckon they are finding it hard to pick a winner, i mean its not just for the award of saying 'i won, yay!:D' they are actually giving away prizes so they have to make sure the decision is right
Anyone here read Ken Rockwell's reviews like I do?

Not having locking legs means you can put it in almost any position, and the hook on the bottom can hold stuff to make it more stable.
Three of my mates came down to visit me earlier tonight so I was able to whip out the Nikon and take some candids, even let them play with it a bit. One actually managed to do a one handed self portrait "type you'd see on Facebook" and it surprised me. Basically, the 35 1.8G is one sharp lens even wide open!
Anyone here read Ken Rockwell's reviews like I do?
I always do, considering his website is usually the first page to come up when you google a somewhat popular piece of camera gear. He's usually right about most things I find, but can be way off as well.

Looking at the shutter FPS of the D3s makes me want it so bad, but then I look at the price and go NOPE. $5200 brand new just for the body, seriously.
Looking at the shutter FPS of the D3s makes me want it so bad, but then I look at the price and go NOPE. $5200 brand new just for the body, seriously.
you can only be a pro if you buy the D4, scrub
you can only be a pro if you buy the D4, scrub
That's $1100 more than the D3s though :v: This begs the question, why is camera equipment so damn expensive? A UV filter for example costs at least $30... for a piece of glass.
That's $1100 more than the D3s though :v: This begs the question, why is camera equipment so damn expensive? A UV filter for example costs at least $30... for a piece of glass.
it has its purposes past being a dust cover, though a store will usually just advertise it for keeping your glass clean and being a bodyguard for scratches/dinks. It IS better than taking a direct hit to your lens, so they have a point there, replacing a filter instead of repairing your lens
That's $1100 more than the D3s though :v: This begs the question, why is camera equipment so damn expensive? A UV filter for example costs at least $30... for a piece of glass.
Because its purpose made high quality glass made for very high quality (usually) purpose made pieces of glass that are to do much more than to simply keep rain and noise out like those in a building. I would think craftsmanship + glass elements coated specially and finally profit aka HOLLA HOLLA GET DOLLA.
This begs the question, why is camera equipment so damn expensive? A UV filter for example costs at least $30... for a piece of glass.
Don't remind me... Still haven't bought UV filters for my TLR...

A UV filter for example costs at least $30... for a piece of glass.
Because the glass is of extremely high quality, and the anti-glare and anti-reflection coating is hard to make. The surface area of the filter also grows exponentially with increase in filter thread diameter.
Any of you guys taken finance out in order to purchase camera gear or indeed anything else?
I was taking pictures of some stuff, just playing around with my camera settings, when my cat decided to see what I was doing cat by Eddieo92, on Flickr
I can't take pictures of my cat unless he's sleeping, he gets really interested and sticks his nose right on the lens, can't stay still like my dog :v:

Does a lens really take damage when it's pointed to the sun or exposed to UV's? I was watching DigitalRev's video on UV filters and they seem to suggest that UV's have no purpose on digital cameras but lens protection. I do understand that you shouldn't exactly take their word for it since they are highly satirical in their videos. But, where UV mattered in film because it affected colours(?), on a digital sensor it doesn't affect the colours and infact worsen picture sharpness. Also I'm doing a photoshoot for one my friends soon, they're gonna be doing cosplay and they have some place planned with graffiti. Anything I should be prepared for? It's in direct sunlight and incase it's a sunny day I'm gonna be bringing some make-shift shade tool. I ordered some reflectors, but they won't be coming in till probably next week, so I think I might use some aluminium foil for illumination in the make-shift shade. As for lenses the 35mm and 85mm most likely.

I've actually tried using my lens to focus light into a tiny dot, and it worked exactly like a magnifying glass, focusing the light into a very hot point. I think they might mean that the UV filter is to protect the front element for dust, scratches and blows, because it's much cheaper to get a new filter than fix the front element most of the time.
I'm disappointed in myself for how little I've actually used my 600D since I bought it.
A few months ago (October somewhere) my grandfather bought me a camera, because he knows it's my hobby and hopefully future work-area. It's a Sony SLT-A55, and it cost 691 dollars. I decided to look at a photography magazine, and I noticed my exact camera model in there as a recommendation for a professional-level camera - with the price 1051 dollars. Looked up the camera on the store I bought it. 1051 dollars. Was I lucky or something? :v:
