Raised the money yourself?
Yeah, me and my mates.
The production was delayed due to location problems, sob.
It's results day for me tomorrow, if I get the results I'm after I'll be treating myself to a 120 film camera
A nice Kiev 6c

I just like it because it reminds me that while macro shots of objects have been done before, you can still come up with some quite nice images even at that scale by creating interesting backdrops and using specific angles. Makes me want to actually be "creative" in the sense that i'm setting a scene with photography

edit: for the record the images aren't my own, I tried taking photos of mushrooms once, and was no where near as good
Just came back from vacationing in Ventura.
Here's a instagram from out my window. Please don't kill me.

Also, an update on my Argus C3.
I replaced the shutter-speed dial with a cleaner and less scratched up dial.
I've replaced the entire lens assembly
Cleaned it all out...Again
All that's left is calibration, replacing the leatherette, and maybe repaint that shutter lever.

Taking apart, fixing and reassembling a camera is so much fun.
That's some really cool stop-motion/timelapse: DreamMusic 2
That's really fucking neat and holy fuck how much time it must've taken!

wow, solid stuff
That was a thought I had when I saw the Gotye video, I wish they kept a solid consistency even when there was a non-changing segment. When they weren't painting it was really smooth and that was a jarring difference to the painted portions.
ugh bidding on ebay is frustrating
3 lenses bid on and nothing to show for it.
You have to bid at the latest you can, and bid the full amount you would be comfortable paying for it. Establish this before you bid on anything. So if you think something is worth x amount of money, bid it, but at the very end of the auction. Don't go over otherwise you'll be disservicing yourself. If you have an iOS or android device get the eBay app and have it do reminders for you, extremely helpful!
I usually do a last 5 seconds bid, that's a few average bid-increments over the current bid (after refreshing to triple check), so if other people put down a normal bid at the end hoping to skirt away with a cheap deal, you're likely to outbid them anyways
unless of course some asshole put up auto-bidding with a ridiculous amout and it outdoes you anyways
Yeah I've set my max bid right before it ends, and it's usually a pretty significant gap.
Oh well, I've got no rush.
Actually the only reason I won the bid on what is now my camera, is because I kept in active contact with the auctioner. I was outbid by 50 euros which I couldn't best, but the auctioner sold it to me anyway because of that fact.
I got my braces off
Just in time for my third year of uni :p
it's nice isn't it? Do you have to wear a retainer or anything for a little while now?
I remember when I got mine off. I think I was lucky to get them on so early in my life, and I was able to lose them before high school.
Unfortunately, there's a hidden metal bar on the bottom of my teeth that has to stay there for life. Ah well, at least my teeth are nice and straight now; I can't complain :v:
I got braces back in middle school. Got 'em off for part of freshmen year, now they're back on. Coming off Sept. 11th. Can't wait, have to quickly get my senior pictures shot after I get em off. I can't remember what it's like not to have metal in my mouth. I as well have a bar on the inside of my bottom teeth that will stay for life.
Sometimes I go on Flickr and look at my stats and I find out that months ago someone posted one of my photos on Tumblr.
http://crushed--daisies.tumblr.com/post/15146509075
i've had mine for 4 years so it really is a new feeling. i got a permanent retainer in the back of both rows which is really annoying feeling, but i knew i wouldn't be able to remember wearing one normally.
Does anyone know the rate for a run of the mill professional product photography session? I just did product photography as an amateur for a business and I have no idea what number to give them for a quote.

I'd adjust to the situation. For example, how much time did you put in, and how much do you think your time is worth? How much would you realistically want to pay someone for the same job? How much are they worth to the person using them - i.e. are they an eBay re-seller, or are they about to launch a product? How much money are they making from what they're selling, and how much of it should they spend on photos to make it worthwhile (In the case of a re-seller: don't charge them $50 if they're selling like $200 worth of individual items [unless of course you did a $50 job, it's their fault for hiring someone expensive/not budgeting properly])? Obviously you have a say in what you think the job is worth, but how much are they willing to pay and how do you make it fair?
Sorry I threw a bunch of questions at ya but it's just what I'd ask myself in your situation. I know nothing about product photography. On a random day if someone wanted me to take however many photos of 50 individual items in a light box I'd ask like $25 - unless they were large items then I'd charge more for the physical labor.
I still have another month to go with my braces.

I'm thinking of charging $150. It was a series of shots for a business (headed by a father of a friend) that makes models, sort of like you see model trains and stuff like that, a business that makes products that go into scale replicas and things like that. They needed shots for a new online catalog that some of their models are going to be going into.
I spent maybe 3 hours setting up the lights for the shoot and just sort of designing the background and lighting. I'm by no means a professional in the sterile sort of product photography look, so I spent a good deal of time and stress trying to get it to look as good as possible. The shoot itself was an hour and then I'll probably have an hour and a half or so sunk into editing these when I'm done.
All in all, 5-6 hours of work at $30 an hour, I think that's what my time is worth. I guess at the end of the day if the shots don't work for him then I won't get paid, but he did say he needed them soon so I'm guessing he might be OK with less than aces quality, and at the end of the day, $150 should by no means be a shocking number to a business when I've heard of pros in my area charging $400 for a senior shoot.
edit: I'm really, really terrible at the business aspect of photography, but considering that it's one skill I have (outside of straight manual labor) that I'm good enough at to make money on, I'd like to make a decent wage off of it, so I do appreciate the help.

feel free to give me shit, don't give a fuck
Why don't you have an SLR
Why did you resort to Instagram out of them all.
You could at least have taken the picture and not ruin it with filters
Are instagram filters really that bad? I don't mind them at all...
I've always been against people using actual technology and then making it deliberately shitty / making it try to look like it's taken with an old camera thinking it's "artistic"
nah that's not the problem, I don't mind the "artistic" filters, the problem is they're still not artistic unless you use them on a good photo
people that take selfies wtih instagram or of their coffee/breakfast etc is what i'm against, it basically shows that just because an app makes it easy to produce good looking(tone wise) photos, doesn't automatically make people photographers
[editline]27th August 2012[/editline]
also for the record it's popular because it's easy to use, I still prefer manual filter work because I can actually do what I want and am not limited to presets.
forgot to say, don't have a dslr anymore because it was one I was borrowing from school, had to return it unfortunately. This whole time i've neglected the fact that my phone has a built in camera (like when I go out and think damn wish I brought my camera etc), and, as sad as it might sound that's kind of how I got into photography in the first place, so shoot me for dicking around with apps

I think you're misinterpreting the whole forums purpose, this isn't somewhere where we expect you to take incredible photos with the most amazing equipment and if you don't try your hardest we tell you off like we're your school teachers.
If you aren't putting effort in, or not giving a fuck, the only one losing out is you.
Happy shooting!!!
