I'm going to the photokina tomorrow. Can't wait to see and try all the new cameras and stuff
I admit sony is part of the trifecta of major photog brands, but I haven't considered it much more than a little sibling next to their bigger twins on the grand scheme of things. Is the mirrorless market really kicking them into high gear?
in japan yes (i think mirrorless sell greater than DSLR's there, and they corner over 50% of the market), but in america they aren't making as huge of waves. i think it's more of just all the stuff they are doing before anyone else (the full frame nex vg900 camcorder, rx1, rx100, the nex series took what m4/3rds were doing and pushed it into high gear causing nikon canon and pentax to react, SLT mirror stuff) causing the competition to be falling behind. their incremental updates are usually substantially more different (i'm pretty sure the nex 5r has more features from the 5n than the 5dmk3 has from the 5dmk2) than competing brands, and they are pushing a lot of niche products (rx1, rx100) that didn't even exist until sony made them. so are they a key player currently? not so much as their market share is tiny compared to canon and nikon in the DSLR segment. But they are really pushing mirrorless and succeeding more than they ever dreamed of, and making more strides to be innovative causing other companies to react. so that's what hasselblad is banking on, a company that is pushing new ideas. plus you know they have more manufacturing plants than other companies, they have the cornerstone on sensor manufacturing as is (sensors for pentax, nikon, a lot of compact cameras, the leica x2, olympus em-5) so that has to help them as well. i was thinking this to be mostly the cause for the alliance. in the end this is just a start for hasselblad doing this weirdo stuff, i think they are doing the partnership mostly to change the medium format market, with sony's sensor manufacturing and mirrorless technologies they can make the best medium format sensor, and produce them in larger batches to be cheaper. then the CDAF technologies sony have can be used for incredibly accurate focusing, thus making a really nice MF digital outfit.
damn in that case I am eagerly awaiting medium format digital imaging that doesn't cost more than my new car oh by the way I got a new car yay Sonic LTZ hatchback, I'm pretty happy with it I'll get my own pictures, stuff online is butts. it's a dark grey like above, the metallic flecks have a blue tinge in direct sunlight, it's nice. got the leather dual-toned interior [t]http://www.extremetech.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Chevy-Sonic-LTZ-cockpit.jpg[/t] and I'm back to being poor forever
nice manual?
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/892349-REG/ Canon 6D is out for preorder.
specs don't quite match up to the d600, and canon is selling it at the same price...they're insane.
nice manual?
oh forgot to mention. Auto (with option to shift to manual control) because I do way more stop and go city driving and suck at manual as it is., 6-speed, 4 cyl, 1.8l. Not the ecotec 'turbo' 1.4l engine, apparentely doesn't come on the full package model of the car. Ah well, time to go do some kickflips in glorious [del]HDR[/del] tonemapsplosionvision

Oh well. Impressive performance, definitely going to try it out.
Say hello to the "entry-level full-frames". The fight between the 6D and D600 is one I'll certainly be watching. [editline]Wednesday 19th, September[/editline] Shit pageking. Here's a preview (plus interview) of the 6D: http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Canon_EOS_6D/
D700 still is a better buy, in my opinion, especially if you don't need the megapickles.
D700>D600 and 5d mk2>6D Which is dumb really because the prices of the older models are cheaper. But at least the d700 is worse in some regards to the d600, but the 6D is just stupid. Canon up to its typical lame ways as of recent.
D700 still is a better buy, in my opinion, especially if you don't need the megapickles.
And if you don't want video
So I went to the Photokina in Köln, Germany today, and here is my loot: DSCF1874.jpg by Leevmeister, on Flickr DSCF1872.jpg by Leevmeister, on Flickr Yes, I actually got all those film for free :v: I also tried every camera from the Canon EOS 6D to the Leica M and M-E All in all it was all worth the effort.
Argh jealousy
how'd you snag film for free
how'd you snag film for free
Just asked the standholders of the respective brands for free samples  Eastman Kodak was very generous and give me and the friend I was with 10 rolls of film for free. And the other rolls are Fomapan, a Czech film brand (with very good price/performance ratio, especially for the Fomapan 100 which costs about 2,50 euros a piece).
I found a 524/16 Zeiss Ikonta in my granny's attic It seems to be in all working order and everything, cept shutterspeeds above 1/2 a second tend to stick sometimes but aside from that all is well. Now to find some MF film and some sort of light meter or similar and get shooting
And if you don't want video
If you're buying a DSLR, your main reason for buying it is going to be photography.
If you're buying a DSLR, your main reason for buying it is going to be photography.
I had someone get absolutely fuming the yesterday after telling him I sold my OM-D for a Canon 40D, he brought out every card he could (which consisted of megapickles, low-light and video capability, I need none of these) for no reason other than to be an arse, and ended with "enjoy your antique, I hope you didn't pay much for it".
Going on a mountain hike in a few I'll try to post some nice pics

[editline]20th September 2012[/editline]
If you're buying a DSLR, your main reason for buying it is going to be photography.
I don't know about that. The market is changing. People start buying DSLRs for the price/value.
I soooooooooo can't wait to start my course properly, we start on monday and i'm so excited about learning everything. Made our own little cyanotype images yesterday.
Question time: Are there any advantages of shooting in B&W (as in not doing it in post)?
Question time: Are there any advantages of shooting in B&W (as in not doing it in post)?
If you are using live view shoot in B&W exclusively, otherwise just convert in post.
Question time: Are there any advantages of shooting in B&W (as in not doing it in post)?
if I'm shooting in black and white (and intend on post production), I'll shoot BW but in RAW format so it still has all of its color data. Lightroom/photoshop will bring it back to defaults when you open it anyways, but having a better idea of the vvalues when reviewing and adjusting on-site settings is very useful. If you use your brand's software (like Nikon View NX2), it can read the camera-set adjustments straight out instead of making you re-apply stuff by hand like lightroom. I personalized settings for several types of BW on the camera, so it's pretty valuable to my time since often I'd be happy with the shot straight out of the camera. Only problem I have with it is that it's good for maybe a couple of images that you want to tweak, but it's clunky and bad for organization and just doesn't flow for me as well as LR when I need to do a lot of work.
If you're buying a DSLR, your main reason for buying it is going to be photography.
True, but DSLRs for doing Video tend to be getting more popular. One of the reasons why at the church I take photos at bought a 5D MKII is for the video quality.
