Does anyone have any recommendations for either: 1. A pretty good point&shoot or 2. A fairly cheap but still good DSLR? My birthday's coming up, and my camera has nearly kicked the bucket and I need a new one, but I don't know what one, really. I've always had a Sony Cybershot, just a fyi.
The Sony nex 5n's are cheap, and pack quality image to boot. A nice step up from a point and shoot without the steepest learning curve. Their auto mode is much better than competitors as well.
Before I got my K-5 (a K-x is a newer/cheaper version) I used a 2010 WB2000.

Tried making a film scanner with my dslr, gotta fix up the focus but it's alright 50mm f1.8 that's duct taped to my M42 135mm f2.8
^That's really awesome.
I haven't been shooting ANYTHING for the last month or so. It bothers me! Can't wait to go travel and take some awesome shots.
Lady friend confronted me at work today knowing I dabbled in photography and now would like me to go out and do a shoot with her. Question is, should I pick up anything beforehand? I'm considering a double sided gold/silver reflector but I'm not 100% on it. Figured I'd go with my 50mm and do some stuff here. Also this is the first time someone I barely know has actively gone up to me and asked me to do something like this, so I'm not sure how to approach it. And the part that gives me the heebies is that she has a pro shoot coming up before we head out next Saturday, so I'm feeling leagued also.
Eww don't bring a reflector That's like bringing a condom on the first date At least I think so...
Eww don't bring a reflector That's like bringing a condom on the first date At least I think so...
Reflectors are one of the best tools for light you can use on a portrait shoot.
Eww don't bring a reflector That's like bringing a condom on the first date At least I think so...
I dunno what this means, other than being prepared.
What do you mean K-x is a newer/cheaper version? You mean the K-30, or K-r? K-x is discountinued
I absolutely mean the K-r. I'm really bad with names.
I dunno what this means, other than being prepared.
it means you want to do a lot more than you probably need on the first run. Honestly work with natural light if possible, but if you're shooting in harsh mid day light and have an assistant on hand, a reflector would be nice to break up the shadows on her face.
Reflectors are one of the best tools for light you can use on a portrait shoot.
I prefer the sun, myself.
Eww don't bring a reflector That's like bringing a condom on the first date At least I think so...
Always bring a condom on the first date.
Always bring a condom on the first date.
here you go son justs uh.... don't tell your mother I gave you this ok now go get er [editline]e[/editline] wow google way to be subtle
I prefer the sun, myself.
I've actually been toying around w/ the idea of using a huge ass piece of frosted glass or some kind of diffusing plastic to put between the model and the sun to put the sun to work as a key light and then use a reflector as the fill. You could actually have a third person standing behind and below the model with a mirror and use that as a kicker or fringe light. Boom, completely organic 3 point lighting and it only takes four people to do a shoot.
Yeah 4 people is a lot more than just you and the model And for that reason I don't use external lighting, I don't want assistants in my workflow
Yeah 4 people is a lot more than just you and the model And for that reason I don't use external lighting, I don't want assistants in my workflow
I bring someone to hold a reflector. It helps tremendously with light and it helps keep the mood light in a shoot.
I've realized the whole thing is for fun so I'm not going to overdo it.
atta boy ;)
Any one know anywhere to get some cheap film? I want to shoot with my EOS-650 soon, and CVS sells single rolls for $6 :/

Photo stores near me only have colour film left for 10 euros a roll. www.macodirect.de/ That's a website that has all kinds of film for cheap. I'll try it whenever I actually have money.

We should host more competitions, they don't even need to have prizes.
So the guy who beat me in the photo contest decided to start his own company with his girlfriend. Here's their logo.
