Are you in the US military? Honestly Leon, are you?
that's not relevant. just because you have a particular occupation doesn't mean you can't be wrong.
Because I'm more inclined to believe a person currently and actively enlisted in the US marines then a person who is not in the military.
I don't give a shit what he does. he's talking out of his ass.
then they discharge you and your military career is over forever
I'm surprised that these people in the military are actually encouraging you to lie. I guess they have no integrity. if I was you then I'd tell them about it and try to get a waiver. they give out waivers all the time.
[editline]31st May 2011[/editline]
yes it does
you have to release your medical records to them before joining. if you don't sign off then you're shit out of luck because they won't accept you.
I didn't sign over shit. I got my friggen tonsils removed a week before I depped in and told them i've never had surgury... you were saying?
Oh and you have no idea how the military really works. What you see on tv and in ads, how you're told it works, is pretty much compleatly different then how things actualy go.
I didn't sign over shit. I got my friggen tonsils removed a week before I depped in and told them i've never had surgury... you were saying?
so you're saying that they DIDN'T review any of your medical files what so ever? I smell bullshit
regardless, your previous statement is bullshit
I'm not saying everyone in the airforce is that way, and the same doesnt hold true for the marines. We've got admin guys who go to work at 6am and are done by 2pm bitching about how long their work day is, while guys out on the flight line are working 14 hour days consistantly. I get to deal with a flight schedule, which essentialy means I never have a standard schedule other than pretty much knowing I'm going to work 10-12 hours (thats the nice thing though, I'm required to have at minimum 12 hours rest between flights).
I know this is completely irrelevant, but going back to how you put the Army so low, What would you consider Airborne and Rangers, because the training for that is hardcore shit man.
so you're saying that they DIDN'T review any of your medical files what so ever? I smell bullshit

They didn't look at shit. You're wanna tell a crew chief in the USMC that he's lying to you about how HE enlisted. Unless you yourself are enlisted as well I don't know where your information comes from.
Oh and you have no idea how the military really works. What you see on tv and in ads, how you're told it works, is pretty much compleatly different then how things actualy go.
coming from the guy who repeatedly makes baseless claims
seems like you really do belong in the marines
After looking at starcraft... Why would you want to be a marine?
Marines are pretty much the best units with max upgrades. Cheap and strong
They didn't look at shit. You're wanna tell a crew chief in the USMC that he's lying to you about how HE enlisted. Unless you yourself are enlisted as well I don't know where your information comes from.
calling bs on this. there's no way you got in the military without them looking at your medical history.
Nice dude! Good on ya! The military is a very noble profession. I've been wanting to enlist since I could speak! I've always loved everything about the military... I'm going to enlist in the Army or potentially the Marine Corps when I turn of age (Got 2 more years).
coming from the guy who repeatedly makes baseless claims

TBH he has first hand experience, that would be his base. I am kinda inclined to believe you because it makes sense, but you're the one making baseless claims. But I don't know anything.
I know this is completely irrelevant, but going back to how you put the Army so low, What would you consider Airborne and Rangers, because the training for that is hardcore shit man.
Airborn is pretty cool, but considering that we can get our jump wings as a reenlistment bonus it isn't all that. Rangers are a joke man, their training is literally our boot camp. Force Recon is where it's at. EVERYONE is trained parachuting, combat diving, EOD, as well as ground combat. I've seen those guys train at camp pendalton, they're compleatly insane. Ontop of that you get the recon snipers and forward recon teams, they're as close as you can get to teir 1 without joining DEVGRU or Delta Force.
Having tonsils out wouldn't effect being able to serve would it? Or minor finger surgery? I'm curious because after reading a little bit about the asmatha thing (I don't have it, apparently you should tell your recruiter and try to get a waiver), I noticed something about knee surgery and being denied.
calling bs on this. there's no way you got in the military without them looking at your medical history.
It's called medical confidentiality dude. They legally cannot look into your medical records prior to your enlistment. After enlistment they know anything and everything about your medical history, assuming you always go to the naval/army clinics and use tricare at offbase clinics.

Unless you got a torn mcl/acl or something of that nature I wouldn't bother mentioning it. minor surguries are almost always waviered, but recruiters tell you not to bother saying anything about them because it literally means more hoops to jump through. So instead of going to MEPS twice you'd end up going 3 or 4 times and have to fill out more paper work. Once you're enlisted and the 6 month is up you can pretty much tell them about whatever.

if you didn't sign off to give them access to your records before joining then EVENTUALLY at some point you're going to have to (i.e. security clearance)
once they find out you lied about your medical history you're fucked. they'll discharge you.
they also interview people that you know. those people might tell them something you lied about, etc. it just doesn't seem smart to lie.

You sure? My Lt. Col was a ranger and he said that they only got like fucking 3 hrs of sleep a day, while still having to perform everything. The acceptance to it is a joke though, 49 pushups in two minutes and only 6 chin-ups, fucking easy.

They don't interview shit, I don't think you really understand how unsofisticated the enlistment process really is. All they do is a simple criminal backround check, that's it. I had to attain a top secret clearence for my work since i deal with classified avionics equipment, that was a more in depth backround check. I never signed over anything.
They interviewed my family, friends, and co workers when I went to SERE. The only thing that did was give them more information to torture me with.
Even if they found out about my medical history it's past the 6 month mark, they've invested too much in me to let me go. Thats how it works.
you can't claim your own personal experience applies to every situation, because I know for a fact that people have been discharged for lying about things, particularly regarding mental health issues
but I will cease this argument for now

3 hours of sleep is a miricale out in the field. The last field op I did I got maybe 15 hours the whole week. Had a nice sinus infection towards the end too, sucked balls. The acceptance isnt what you need to graduate though. I don't know what that is, but seeing as i can run 3 miles in 21 minutes, do well over 100 crunches or situps, and pull off 20 pullups I don't think I'd have an issue.

I will say it's kind of hard to lie about mental health issues, those tend to come to light pretty quickly. My personal experience spans well over 500+ marines that I have met at all levels throughout the marine corps. Trust me when I say this, the military is far from the spit shined smooth running machine the world thinks of it as. There are many dark truths that people hear of but think are isolated incidents, when it really happens at a much larger scale. Fraternization in point is a particularly large problem.
Ranger School is 69 days long, split up into a variety of different courses. The Florida Course currently holds the most training related deaths, most of them being from hypothermia or some shit like that. None the less, they actually encourage you to put on about 20 or so pounds because they limit your calories a day to like 2000.
Welp..gone to the recruiting station tomorrow to discuss my jobs..

Sounds about right, thats 1 MRE a day. It isn't so bad as long as you don't eat it all at once, if you spread it out throughout the whole day and drink shit tons of water the hunger pains pretty much go away.
I'm currently deciding whats my best choice. I'm in Army JROTC and I guess i sort of took a liking to the Army because of how cool the instructors are, but I guess it's all personal opinion. Next year I'm applying for AROTC with UF, hopefully i'll get in, after that I'm probably gonna decide which academy I want to get into. I'm sure you've probably done some Joint Operations with Army personnel, if so which group did you like working with the best?
Also, if I'm correct this is what you'll be doing in the submarine electronics and computers field?

The airforce since they were less hostile towards us. The army guys felt like they had to one up us all the time. Of course us badgering them didn't help that at all. Such is the life of junior enlisted.
But all in all I felt the army guys worked better together, the airforce guys were kinda off in their own thing. That might be neccisary for their technical work or whatever.
If I were you I'd base your decision on what you want to do, and what you want out of it. For some people the army/airfoce/navy is a perfect match that fits their expectaions and conforms easily to their lifestyle, the marines happend to be mine. It all depends on you to make it what you want it to be.
Thanks man, I guess I just need to do research and see what I like best.
For both of you, like I said. Take it to your grave. If doctors never knew, nothing will ever show anywhere saying you had asthma (correct spelling!) then you take it to your grave and tell no one. My friends damn near dyslexic and he's in. There's a lot of reasons why the military won't let you in. Acid reflux for example, it won't get you kicked out, but having it as a prior condition bans you from joining.
If your recruiter cares about his numbers and you're not worthless in his eyes I'm sure he'll help you slide it under the table.. BUT if there is PROOF you have it then you are fucked. End of story.
You are an idiot, seriously, stop giving advice on here. There is a reason they check you for medical conditions.

And there is a reason some people lie because they want to be in the military.

And sometimes those lies can endanger others...
Hey Jetblack. Just letting you know that I'm heading off to Officer Development School with the Navy this fall. Glad to see that you're taking time to serve your country too.
