At the very least, the law needs to be changed so it isn't contradictory.

You can't have it both ways, women. Is it alive or not? You can't pick and choose depending on the situation.
In the case of twins one embryo may absorb the other one, killing it and in the case of a single child it may split into two embryo, as is the case with a lot of conjoined twin cases. Because of this, a large part of the scientific community views embryos as a [i]potential child[/i], not an actual infant. As for the "soul", there is no such thing.
As for the act of abortion: if a woman was raped and impregnated by the rapist, I'm assuming she wouldn't want the child of her assailant growing inside of her, even if she adopted it out after it was born.
If a couple takes all precautions necessary, and yet the birth control fails and the woman is impregnated she may want to get an abortion because this accidental pregnancy could ruin her life.
