I would go for the touch sensitive as down the road you may find that you want to play quieter or louder at parts and you can't if your keyboard doesn't have different velocities also if you decided to use it as a midi keyboard midi you record in won't be so robotic and will give it a more realistic sound

How do you wish to write it? With sheets? Or placing midi notes on a grid?

i started at the age of around 9 by slapping down random notes and hoping they went together and actually managed to figure out a few things that way

i'm 16 now though lmao

it's best to have a bit of basic music knowledge (chords and bars specifically) to get started with a DAW though and it really, really helps

Learn an instrument (via teacher or online whatever suits you personally) then learn how to use a DAW (software used to record/write/compose/mix/master music)

then smash those two pieces of knowledge together and start writing some tunes

Of course it's not a requirement but yeah I agree it's extremely advisable to know an instrument

Imo it's easier to see patterns in music when you can actually see what you're doing, and how it effects what the outcome sounds like. Then again, I'm more of a kinetic learner anyway so that might just be me. I'd suggest picking up a cheapshit kid's keyboard from a charity shop/ goodwill or something like that, i prefer using keyboards to my guitar/bass for composing because most DAWs use a piano roll style interface.

I think the point that CLungcancer was making is that you should post it in the music in progress thread, but you should follow the conventions, e.g. if you want people to review what you've done, and give you feedback, then you've got to do the same to other people. We all help eachother, and it all works out nicely:)

I've never seen him before, so i kinda assumed his post was genuine, and the self-depreciation was so that people would know what skill he has from the get go. I don't think he ignored CLung's instructions, more that he was unsure.

A "how do you make sounds"-thread sounds like an awesome idea, there's one on SomethingAwful and it is really, really neat to read through, they usually get pretty in-depth on how to recreate sounds people want recreated. Plus yeah it gives you ample opportunity to show of your own skill, which I love, even though I myself am not really good at.

Go forth and make the thread!
