Sidechain kicks make me feel incredibly guilty, they just feel like such a cheat

Also while were discussing daw synths (or I assume so), FL Studio is just seriously crazy, Harmor and Sytrus are just crazy good synths, them and ni massive are just stupidly good at so many things. I've used FL studio since I was young and didnt even know how to bring up the master, and now I just cant see any way of changing daws, its really easy to use yet it feels so much better in every way than any other daw ive used (reason and cubase being it). Only reason to use any other daw would probably be familiarity, otherwise fl studio is just so damn good

FL Studio has really stepped their game up with the last few releases
Yeah, Image-line has been doing really good job with FL studio since release 10, so many great features, fixes and synths. Now they're going to rework the GUI to be vector based and it's looking pretty sick so far. Purchasing FL Studio was one of the best decisions I've made

i've been using acoustica mixcraft since i was young - release 5, mb - but always knew it was good for live recordings rather then loop based themes or synth based edm's - i mean, it's possible to do it, just not the best tool for
Does anyone here play guitar?
I'm having problems with palm muting. My main problem is the bridge on my guitar is scratching my hand whenever I move it while trying to palm mute - which means trying to alternate between muting and normal, I'm at risk of cutting my hand open.
Not my picture but theres these screw sticking out the top of the bridge:

They are what I'm catching my hand on every time.
Those strings must be insanely low, you could put some tape or something moldable on top of those to prevent sharp edges! Or get your strings higher
'ello!
Any of you using guitar effects processors/modellers for electric guitar?
I'm coming in to a little bit of money (around 400$) and I've been looking at the Line6 series of POD HD's. So far I've managed to find a POD HD300 for 300$. I'm mostly playing proggy/posty sludge metal (eg loadsa chunky distortion and echo/reverb).
I know this is pretty specific, but maybe there are any recommendations? Alternatives? Maybe scratch the processor idea and get 3 pedals to find the tone? I'm a bit overwhelmed here, haha.
Just ordered a Dynaudio BM14S to go with my BM12As because I found a great deal on it! So stoked! Also orderd IK ARC 2 (http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/arc/ - seen nothing but great reviews on this, cheaper on amazon if you want it) and some bass traps from ats acoustics (highly recommend them, I've got some higher frequency treatment from them already and it's made a huge difference in how my little studio sounds)
So excited for all this! I've been producing tracks with low end that reaches a little bit lower than my monitors like to go in my room, so I'm hoping this helps me step things up a bit :)

I did a little digging and apparently it's a normal thing for a Tele or Strat. Pretty shitty though. It's definitely not the strings being low, the action is pretty high for what I'm used to. The action on my Dad's old Vox was insanely low - you hardly had to touch the string to rest it on the fretboard but it never had any problems with soudnign the wrong fret. Man I love that guitar.
Anyway it's not a huge problem, it's my sisters guitar and she doesn't play metal. I just thought it was a little odd and came here to see if anyone knew much about it.

There's a guitar thread: here.
And it's normal. I don't position my palm on that part, but right above it. It's different for some people, though.
I couldn't get it to sound right if I moved my palm further up, oh well, I'll just make sure to stay away from bridges like these! Thanks for the heads up on the guitar thread.
waaaaaaaaah sidechain compression
http://puu.sh/9NCEe/40a8339091.mp3
What is this and what do you want us to say about it like what
Sidechain compression is awesome, I usually do it on all my tracks.
oh you again
What? I'm being serious what did you expect us to say about that i'm not being rude
dunno, comment on sidechain progression? which is why i brought it up rather than leaving a link with nothing?
What could we talk about in regards to sidechain compression other than "yeah i use it it's good"
sorry - i posted in the wrong thread, ignore
Wish me luck guys. I got contacted a few hours ago by some people about writing some music for a 48 four film festival. The other guy they had bugged out on them. They are sending me the movie tomorrow at 10:00 am and they need the music done by 1:00 or 2:00 pm. I literally only have 3 - 4 hours to write 5 to 7 minutes of stuff. I'm going to start doing some stuff tonight, but I will not know how the film plays out until I get the film tomorrow.
You're gonna do fine I'm certain, you've got endless talent and I'd love to hear more about how it goes once you're done :)
Holy crap. This just made such a huge difference to how even/accurate my studio room sounds: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/arc/
I was really hesitant at first because it sounds a little a snake oil/magic bullet sort of thing, but toggling between having it enabled and disabled is almost hilarious. Cleared up a few really bad resonant frequencies in my studio REALLY well.
I started working on a track I was having problems with the mixdown on previously, and it only took me about 15 mins to get it sounding how I've wanted it to sound now that I can actually hear what was going on better (there were mixdown issues right around some of the bad resonances in this room)
I can move around the listening area without the bass levels changing nearly as much now too.
I'd definitely get real acoustic treatment for the problem areas you've got first, but this is an amazing way to add some final polish and take your room to the next level. Also would really recommend it if you can't quite fit all the treatment you'd need in your room or can't treat it properly for whatever reason.
But its 250 pounds
Only $200 on Amazon. Definitely worth it for the improvement I hear.

I know it's extremely useful but I hate how companies charge this kind of fuckin money for software, it's such bullshit.
Yeah wtf man, they should work for free instead
Sitting by the window just looking outside while playing is so great, somehow I get a really creative mindset from it.
Buying a guitar must be one of the best things I've done. I'm having so much fun.
Yeah wtf man, they should work for free instead
Not free, just not so expensive
So I am done now and I've been up over 24 hours. I'll upload some of the stuff I came up with. Basically I had to write in a genre I have little to no knowledge of, Southern Rock. I think the pieces came out good for me having to research the genre and come up with the ideas with merely 16 hours of work.

It was way different for me to have to think at a more basic level.

there are other options too, like winRAR's pay-if-you-want software or any open source linux based studio platform
Any kontakt users here know how to like automate the timbre of an instrument, say the stock brass sound? I don't want to just automate the output volume, I want it to sound like the performer is adjusting the velocity of how they're playing it, if that makes sense?
I know it's extremely useful but I hate how companies charge this kind of fuckin money for software, it's such bullshit.
It comes with a mic too (the software is calibrated to the mic to account for any uneven spots in the mic's freq response)

Look in to the AET filter. You'll need samples of both timbres but you can create fades between them. You could also just use a filter and some volume automation, but it won't sound exactly right.

$200 isn't much at all for music equipment/software, so comparatively speaking it is "only". It's cheaper than anything beyond fairly basic acoustic treatment, same price as a decent condenser mic. If you're serious about music $200 is nothing haha
Thanks man i'll give the aet filter a look
