Holy tits, my KRK Rokit's came, they've unbelievable. Could not be happier with them! My mixes sound awful on them (exactly as I hoped!) so I've got a lot to fix, so glad as this might hopefully help me break through the "magic barrier" of things sounding crappy no matter what I do.
meh fuckit you guys can check it out, just please try to keep it within this forum please :> https://soundcloud.com/mh_music/sets...zed-ep/s-JiZj5
This is so fantastic, that intro is just amazing. Really nice!
someone uploaded my track and titled it as a daft punk ID i dunno whether to be flattered or annoyed https://soundcloud.com/shitnew/daft-punk-id

I guess so, I inboxed the guy so it should hopefully be all good by tomorrow
Can someone suggest me a microphone that can double as both a vocal microphone (used mostly for talking on teamspeak or something) and an amp microphone. This is my current microphone and, of course, it's really shitty at recording my amp (works fine for recording my acoustic guitar). I don't currently have an audio interface but I am going to be investing in one eventually. My budget would probably be around to 80-140$ mark.
Do you have an audio interface with preamps already?
Nope
Oh wait I'm an idiot and somehow missed that bit. You're going to have trouble getting something that really sounds good in that price range if you need an interface still too. I have heard good things about some of Blue's microphones though and I know they make USB mics.
I'm not looking for something that sounds great, just something kind of passable. I'll check out some of what Blue has though.
I recommend Focusrite's preamps. They're pretty cheap, and they do make some good stuff.
Focusrite is good Roland quadcapture is a super fuckin good interface also
so how's everyone feel about on soundcloud? dunno if it's been discussed yet or what, sorry if late http://blog.soundcloud.com/2014/08/21/introducing-on-soundcloud/
like most people on the internet, I dislike change, will complain about it, but slowly grudgingly accept it, and not switch to another platform because it's easier to stay with the current one. Like youtube
You'll need a preamp, but the Shure SM57 is great and not that expensive. It's also durable as fuck. It's the go-to mic for tons of instruments (including amps). Just look at those amazon ratings: Reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Shure-SM57-LC-Cardioid-Dynamic-Microphone/dp/B0000AQRST I got it with a crappy €20 preamp usb interface and it seems to work pretty well (I use it with my sax). Definitely passable. You'll also need a stand though. So yeah apart from some additional costs, I love this thing. It'll probably last me a lifetime.

Is it just me or is saying "DAW" really annoying, like, when my friend said it (hes does dubstep or something) instantly pissed me off for some reason, I don't know why. I really enjoy "Audio Workstation" better.
yeah nothing more annoying than abbreviating for convenience and time saving

I rarely call them DAWs out loud, because the only one I use is FL Studio, and it's the only one that the people I talk to use (ok, one or two use reaper)
I'm sure a lot of you have felt the same thing, where you suddenly just hate the music you make and seriously reconsider whether if you've picked the right thing to do. What do you guys to do get out of that slump? I have to start writing songs for my band and I got a few riffs, but I can't for the life of me write melodies that works, and especially lyrics. I have shitloads of lyrics, but I can't write melodies that work and I fucking hate it because the more I try the more I hate my inability to concieve melodies that work.

I also listen to a lot of music, both of the genre I'm working with, music that I just like, and things that inspired me to stat making music in the first place. I don't think very highly of that "find a new place to write" kind of thing, but I have got some good music made while in the back of cars, or trying to sleep in hotels.
artwork :)
Whoa
I was thinking maybe we could make challenges/comps in this section Like make a short track using only certain samples, etc. We did them years ago and it was super fun, we could even have polls voting for the best one. Thoughts? [editline]1st September 2014[/editline] I might think of one this week and make it if I have time.
sounds good to me, one of the other sites I visit is based entirely around doing this, you're given some kind of sample pack or instruction on how to make the song, and then an hour to do it. An hour here would be a bit harsh, everyone over there is always in irc so everyone knows. Maybe have the compos lasting for a day or two.
Just roll with the honour system, everyone is on different time zones so it is preferable in my opinion. :)
You know, I want to release an EP with a few select tracks I've made (linked below), they are however all of different genres. So, would it still be like feasible, or do they all sound too different? Any thoughts? I really want them up on spotify so I can more easily share it.
The 8bit one sounds really epic for me. Nice one. Anyway, a while ago, I released some trap album. It's got some influences from japanese pop culture and videogames. Yeah, might not be the best stuff on Earth, but I put a lot on effort on making it sound good. Specially that kick, that booming kick. Plus it's free if you want to, still. http://jmaamusic.com/album/- EDIT: OK wrong thread.
