are you kidding thats really dumb
Could anyone enlighten me a lil' bit?
I'm in search for a distortion/overdrive pedal. I can afford almost everything, just throw me up a good one.
This is the kind of effect I'm searching for:

What would you guys think about having a weekly/monthly/whenever thread where someone (could be anyone) puts down a few guidelines for a song, then everyone who's interested makes a song according to posted guidelines?
I.E I put down the following guidelines;
BPM: 140
Song Structure: Intro -> Chorus -> Verse -> Pre-chorus -> Verse -> Chorus -> Outro
Length: 3 minutes or less
Instruments: Bass, Drums& Vocals
Then people take these restrictions and try and make something out of it
Bought a new keyboard and it's pretty badass
Roland RD300NX

I personally love the idea, but I doubt it'd really go anywhere since like 90% of FP musicians make electronic music.
Still, I think it's worth a shot.
GUYS I SHIT YOU NOT I JUST FOUND A REAL 303 IN A MUSIC SHOP IN ESSEX FOR £130
But I'm £60 short
:suicide:
ok
Fuck man, that's worth me driving from Hampshire to pick it up!
Although I've probably spent the next few month's budget this week on stuff for my studio. Got an Analog Four and this sick tape delay emulator pedal. Might post some pictures tomorrow. Want to start doing videos too. obviously getting new gear doesn't make you a better musician but it does get you excited :v:
I dont understand that mentality
spending tens of thousands on an idiot thing doesnt make you better but honestly like buying a cool delay pedal or a 303 opens up so much more possibilities in your music that its hard to say it doesn't make your music better in some way

I think it sort of depends on what type of music you're making
I watched a video where Nicky Romero was running through his lazy ass modern talking track and there were moogs and all sorts behind him and he just carries on using the worst waveform in the most over-used VST ever, it really baffled me
Whereas if you're making classic house tracks, a 303 and other vintage roland gear can come in extremely handy
I bet he didnt own them
if you're an EDM producer you always want to make it LOOK like you have the best synth or the one with most heritage
[editline]29th June 2013[/editline]
same with any synth based genre
'look at my moog'

thing is I wouldn't do it for my EDM-Peen i legit want a bloody moog
we all do
theres not a single musician on the planet who uses synths and doesnt at least sort of want a moog

Well to be fair the track was hugely successful, which it probably wouldn't have been if he had just used some vintage moog sound. Being lazy and loading up Massive that day probably was a good idea for him.

I guess it is if you're only doing music for pure financial gain without putting it effort at all.
Wow, I didn't expect this at all

It might not be a huge achievement but I'm pretty damn happy right now

Good job man, I know how this feels, since two tracks I made with a friend entered the futurehouse.net top 10 simultaneously where one of them peaked to no.4, so I wish you the best of luck!
[editline]3rd July 2013[/editline]
By the way, just a quick update ;
-My remix for Joe Garston's "Happy Ending" is out on the 19th of July
-I have another single out on the 26th of July which I'm really excited for!
-My single for Bikslow's "The Iron Giant" is coming within the next three months, just have to wait for the others to finish their remixes
-I have a remix for Hypster coming in the coming months
That was the first time I had ever gotten any exposure anywhere near that level, which was why I was so happy. I made the top 10 for the week as well, that was pretty exciting.
I was recently messaged by the manager of a label called High Intensity Records, and he wanted to know if he could set up some releases from me sometime. I have no idea if it's a legitimate label or not, all I know is there's a few names I recognize that have had releases through them. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do? This is the first time I've ever been contacted by a label so I'm not sure how to approach this.
Also just found out that I was chosen as a winner for the remix contest I recently entered!
Hey guys, I know there's probably like 200 threads on this issue but... My original plan was to get a Mac, and convert to Logic. Though things have taken a turn and i got a really good deal on a new windows PC. So now that I'm about to have a better PC, i kind of want to have a better DAW aswell. The only reason i use FL Studio now, is because it's pretty much all i can run ( barely ). So, i ask of you, if you had to recommend any other DAW for windows, what would it be? Iv'e heard people say Pro Tools isn't very good, that Abletone is difficult to use, could someone please steer me into the right direction? Thanks
Depends what you are doing, really. I tend to work with bands, live multitracks and such.
I used to use (And invested major £££ into upgrades over the years) Cubase and now use REAPER, I was taught on ProTools and I seriously can't wrap my head around why it ever became the industry standard, the workflow is painful and up until recently it lacked even BASIC bouncing features.
So my vote is for REAPER, it's cheap in cost but it aint cheap in sound or feature set. It makes cubase's routing look like a toy. and the mixer view is awesome. It feels a bit like ProTools to use but without any of the annoyingness.
As for ease of use. My dad is new to Digital audio and I bought him a copy when I got him an audio interface. In 3 days he's already managed to multitrack record and learn the basics of using inserts and sends.
For completeness I'll tell you the bad point for me. It's handling of MIDI tracks is AWFUL, at least in comparison to Cubase.
Go pick up the Demo of REAPER. :)

Pro tools is powerful and not bad, its just quite tricky in the UI department
reaper is cheap, that's the main appeal
tezz how bad is reapers midi honestly because I'm thinking of changing
Become a part of the Renoise masterrace instead.

It depends 100% on what you want to do.
Ableton isn't really that hard if you were already good with FL Studio, when you learn Ableton it will feel just as natural as any DAW, and you can modify it to fit your workflow quite nicely.
It really 100% depends on you.
I don't know what I did but I was going to backup my projects folder and other things but it turns out just my .flp projects folder is 33GB and my average .flp size is 20-40mb dafuq

I'd say it's more klunky than anything else. It's perfectly capable, no doubt, but I'd say if you are doing mainly MIDI, REAPER probably isn't for you. Cubase does a much better job with MIDI. (And so it should, it started life as a MIDI sequencer)
On a related note, I got a new toy... after letting a few other toys go on ebay :v:

Would you guys advise using the M-audio BX8's for producing heavy electronic music? I've been mowing lawns recently, and I found that I've got enough to buy the Lexicon Alpha and BX8's, I know of a few big producers who use them, Madeon, Steve Duda has given them positive feedback before, a few guys from Plasmapool, and a couple of my mates at school, do any of you tech-heads here know anything about them?
I don't really come here often but I was wondering could you guys help me out.
I am ashamed to admit that I have been wanting to release a EP for over a month and now a single but I can't get album art for either.
I have no clue what the album art should be, they are all instrumental tracks and I chosen the EP title to be "Unrelated" (as none of them sound similar) and "You Stole My Rings" (since it was inspired by sonic), of course with "Unrelated" I could just throw anything with that but I don't know what (I don't want it to look like a pile of shit) and the sonic one would likely be something related with sonic but I can't just throw a image of sonic on it since it's copyrighted and I can't draw. So do any of you have any ideas?
These will also be my first releases.
This is seriously harder than making the music.

Well I got reaper anyway because I'm looking to go legal , apparently they're focusing on improving midi in successive updates which pushed me towards
anyway, the midi implementation isn't too bad, theres just some poor design choices. I really like how easy it is to convert to audio though. makes everything easier on me and the plugins aren't too bad either
Does anyone know what this song is called?
