Any recommendation on controllers for an ambient producer? :v: I want to start doing live stuff so something that's able to store a LOT of pads/synths/sounds, maybe a kaosspad?
That and an APC40
Also how do you guys go about promoting yourself?
Post it on forums and places where they allow promotion for your music, i.e. Facepunch and Odd Future Talk. Make a YouTube channel with music videos for the songs and post them in the thread about your releases. I'm guessing you're doing Hip Hop, but I think you can submit stuff to a certain type of Hip Hop Blogs and they'll review it and give it some attention. But then again, you could be declined like Tyler, The Creator and still be famous. At least you can keep dissing it in your tracks, lol.

Holy shit this thing is awesome. If you use ableton and you are trying to decide if you want a push, you want a push.

Does anyone know of any decent headphones that will not break the bank? Mine just broke, the cord is so long it got tangled and then wires snapped in half severing the connection.

I recommend these. Pretty decent and it's only 70 bucks. Theres better stuff out there but this is cheap so yeah. Don't mind the microphone, btw. It's not gonna do a thing if you're using for PC.

Any recommendations for a new pair?
Personally, I love the 5a from Vic Firth, they got just the right weight and feel for me, and they are still pretty light so even with my rather heavyhanded style of playing (coupled with frequent use of cymbals) they still manage to keep intact for a couple of weeks  [editline]23rd August 2013[/editline]
Does anyone know of any decent headphones that will not break the bank? Mine just broke, the cord is so long it got tangled and then wires snapped in half severing the connection.
The Sony Mdr-7506 costs $130 so they're a bit on the expensive side, amazing quality though that got excellent bass and midrange, they're a bit lacking on the high end, although I guess that can be expected when you get such a good bass response on them.

garageband just scared the shit out of me by suddenly making a REALLY FUCKING LOUD noise (not unlike a foghorn) and then crashing. almost as if my music sucked so much my computer screamed in agony and then killed itself

So I picked up a guitar from work since it was in too bad condition to well, its a Limited Edition Epiphone Les Paul in Green Flame. It makes nothing but buzzing if I plug it into my amp, but the buzzing changes if I make contact with the pickups, anyone know if it could be an issue with the wiring on the pickups or the pots? Aside from fixing the wiring I need to replace the strings, tuning pegs and get a new switch (the original switch is still inside but it's missing the cap) along with fixing general scuffs and such. I'm thinking of fixing it up and selling it on, can anyone ballpark estimate how much I could get off this thing? Hey do any of you guys know how I would go about creating a lead that sounds something like this? The lead that comes in at around 0:39 A similar sound for the lazerbeam lead: I've been trying for a while and I think I'm stuck, I just can't get anything that really sounds close it usually ends up sounding quite flat or too clean.
Question for those who sample - if you are trying to sample a vinyl break or any break does it have to be a place where the drums are just dry by themselves or do you do breaks that have other instruments and if so do you keep them in or is there a way to remove these instruments? [editline]28th August 2013[/editline] Im experimenting with breakbeats and loops for the first time, so

[editline]28th August 2013[/editline] Im experimenting with breakbeats and loops for the first time, so
depending on the style of music you're making and the source material it changes a lot obviously dry drum samples are the most "usable" because you can get them separated into individual hits and keep it sounding natural, but i've sampled entire tracks with additional instruments/vocalization going on at the same time as a hit and if you embrace the fact that there is additional noise it can come out pretty well, like when i do that i'll usually have the hit be a bit short kinda like DOOM drums, where the full hit doesn't even play sometimes. if you want to filter them out just mess with EQ and try to filter out unnecessary frequencies, on its own the background noise might be noticeable but with good EQ, effects (like reverb and stuff), and working the volume envelope on the sample it can end up sounding very good in a final track [editline]28th August 2013[/editline] tbh a lot of the time i think embracing less-than-perfect source material rather than trying to sculpt it into something of a higher quality works better

In sylenth1, have the first oscillator be a saw with 1 voice at default, then put the second oscillator as 2 voices and push the "Fine" knob up until it sounds detuned enough. Then the pitch thing can be done manually using a pitchbend, the portamento inside sylenth, or putting an envelope within the plugin that makes it. But don't worry, I made a preset just for you, so you don't have to go through the hassle of my appalling way of describing how to do things :v:

There's really no 'rules' to this.

I've actually always wondered if we should give ourselves our own sound recreation thread in mgr, lots of people would find it a handy resource?
No problem man! I've actually always wondered if we should give ourselves our own sound recreation thread in mgr, lots of people would find it a handy resource?
I definitely think it would be a good idea, I know I would use it.
I definitely think it would be a good idea, I know I would use it.
I'll create one only if there's enough demand for it, otherwise it'll be a waste of time/space

It all depends what you're trying to do and what you're working with. There are no rules.
Anyone know if there's going to be another collaborative album? Seeing how they've got less and less recognition every year.
thats sort of why there probably won't be
thats sort of why there probably won't be
We need a gimmick for it, I suggest the following ;- -dedicating a song for a moderator -dedicating the entire album for one or more moderators -We team up in groups of 2 or 3 and compete (via voting from members outside mgr) to have the best song of the month/year
A song for a moderator is just a lame suckup and leaving out all the other moderators will invite unnecessary politics i really wouldn't mind collaborating with some people though that might be fun [editline]29th August 2013[/editline] maybe we could try a collaborated song somehow
