Exactly this. A lot of people seem to be missing the point of the article. The use of drugs is not indicative of higher intelligence; people of higher intelligence are attracted to "evolutionarily novel" experiences, such as experimenting with one's consciousness and mind-altering substances.
i envy people or the time i used to be able to have extremely fun nights sober. i've never done anything as fun as drugs, or under the influence of drugs, or involving drugs. is that good or bad?

Ego death dissassociation etc, however I'd also list it as the most damaging to me, but that's probably due to my extensive use which would probably be just as bad for anything else at the level I used to abuse Diss's at.
I use Yerba Mate and take St Johns Wort and Ginseng daily, all of these technically drugs and I take them to enhance my mental performance :P
I'm also partial to cannabis but due to the "drugs are bad" mentality of those around me I have to be careful not to leave a trace when using it. Haven't had any for a year and a half :( know of any small vaporizers i.e. pocket sized that don't create a lot of odour? Help an intelligent motherfucker out yo :)
Hmm. I've been thinking this sometimes my self. I do think there is a lot of truth to this. More intelligent, does not mean very intelligent. The majority of people lie between 90 and 110 on the IQ scale. I do believe that picking out a handful of people who do drugs, live normal a life with a normal job, the majority of these people will be on the higher end of the scale. Obviously in some "communities" this factor might be different. In gangs and such, where the pressure to do drugs are higher, there might be a more even number. But thats a whole different thing.
More intelligent people are able to decide for them selves. Stupid people believe what they are told. If the government say drugs are bad then thats what most of the less intelligent people believe. They're not able to think for them selves. I would be willing to bet that if you take 100 ppl on the lower end of the IQ scale and 100 on the higher end. The side with most druggies would be on the higher end.

Intellectual people have the will to ask and simply do something which is a path to finding your true self/thinking for your self, It might not be the best connection to associate intellectual development to experiencing "drugs" due the the stigmata our society tries to implement us with at a young age, anyone who has done a bag of mushrooms or some pure LSD would beg to differ. The two reasons for such a perception (intelligent people more likely to try drugs):
- Dumb people get told that all illegal drugs are bad from the birth, and never try to think for themselves
- Smart people don't get caught, so many of the "free" druggies you see out there are the smart ones
dumb people also murder and steal and do a whole different number of things.
there are plenty more dumb people in prison and all the things people get put in prison for are things we are told from birth not to do.
But they do them because they're dumb.
