The whole purpose of life is to reproduce.
Speak for yourself. I make my own damn ultimate life goals.
Hell possibly in the future we could even use Cloning.
Speak for yourself. I make my own damn ultimate life goals.
I mean't for life to continue, not personal goals.
My idea is that humans are born bisexual/asexual, and that experiencing society will end up shaping their sexuality in the long run as they grow older.
I think sexual orientation is a mix of social, psychological, and genetic causes. Genetics is a permanent physical cause, social and psychological reinforces the genetic cause. But I could be incorrect by other member's views.
I said eariler, being 'incharge' of a child may make you guardian by paper, but by blood there is no connection.
why is blood so important? just because I haven't made any children it doesn't mean my life hasn't had a huge impact on the people around me.
I agree with the OP. I was a former Catholic and when I got older, switched to atheism. I totally support the LGBT Community. I'm not a lesbian or anything but I do realize that they're just people who wish to love. Who are priests, or politicians, or the media, to say that they cannot follow what they want? I'd rather be with a woman and happy then with a man and depressed. Religions are so quick to bash whatever is different or not "pure" to them. When you think about it they are really just bigots. They judge based on ones sexuality or beliefs that they consider a sin but they sin daily as well. If this Jesus was real and created us all he must have created Gays and Lesbians as well. So many religious people forget that. If God is real and meant for everyone to belong to the opposite sex then why would he have given certain people the free will and mindset to love their own sexuality?
As time passes, the knowledge and opinions of society change. We live in a truly grand age, where people can legally express their views through multiple mediums, even when they have the unpopular opinion. There will always be a group in society composed of hateful and ignorant people, but I don't think the minority should be used as the poster child for the whole of a common belief. I personally have no problem with the homosexual population having equal rights to be honest. It seems that Facepunch loves to hate one side though, be it homosexuals, religious people, atheists or whatever the nearest thing there is to bash. I don't think sides are black and white. The bible (or any other religious text) [as a tool] has become somewhat lax when compared to older times when crusades and burning heretics was considered a good idea. For this reason, I don't believe either side should sit on their high horse and look out to see the other side as foolish and underdeveloped. This thread is lax and hasn't delved into the usual pile of rubbish that most mature subjects go (aka atheist vs. christian trollwar). To say the least, let's just spread the love to both sides of the fence. tl;dr - Let's all love each other regardless of opinions. Also, I rarely post here, but I get the oddest feeling I'll be covered in boxes by the time I get back seeing how a chunk of Facepunch doesn't like to read much more than a couple of lines...
To bad anti-theists like to shit up these kind of threads.
The first shit-up in this thread was someone saying that gays have a mental disorder.
I think sexual orientation is a mix of social, psychological, and genetic causes. Genetics is a permanent physical cause, social and psychological reinforces the genetic cause. But I could be incorrect by other member's views.
I agree with this. From how I see it, society as a whole is a pro-heterosexual society. Most children grow up believing that male-female relations are the socially acceptable path, or the "right thing". The reason why most people say "I have been a gay/lesbian for xxx years" is because the self-realization that comes through a mixture of puberty and external information shows what a person's sexuality really is. The reason information comes into play here is because then more people who are suspicious of the nature of their sexuality (bi-curious) have access to the information that will help them realize what category they fall in. This is why you see people "coming out" that are forty or fifty years old. That is because the United States (and other) have historically been a sexually repressive society. Most of the homosexual awareness campaigns have been held in the last 20-30 years, with nothing else before that. EDIT: The first pride parade was in 1970. For the record: I'm Lutheran Christian, with no particular stance on the so-called "gay rights". You could say that I'm all for it after seeing the whole Prop 8 crap that happened in California last year.
The whole purpose of life is to reproduce. You can't reproduce with some the same gender as you. We are genetically hard-wired to be attracted to the opposite gender and if you are not, you have a mental disorder.
This would be true if we still reproduced to survive.
This would be true if we still reproduced to survive.
I mean't it as life to continue, not personal goals.
This would be true if we still reproduced to survive.
This. [editline]07:42PM[/editline]
I mean't it as life to continue, not personal goals.
Did you just copy and paste yourself.
This. [editline]07:42PM[/editline] Did you just copy and paste yourself.
Well he didn't read it before where I asked the question, so yes.
Got a more trusted source? Alos post the link.
Well seeing as wikipedia cites everything I'll say you should never trust it EVER
Well he didn't read it before where I asked the question, so yes.
And it will do you well to read his. You said (paraphrase here)
The meaning of life is to reproduce
He said (paraphrase)
We don't need to reproduce to survive anymore
30 goto 10. The human population is six billion strong, a couple hundred thousand gay couples won't do anything to seriously offset the heterosexual side.
I love everyone
Going from the lizard's argument, anyone who intends not to have a child is fundamentally a bad person.
Going from the lizard's argument, anyone who intends not to have a child is fundamentally a bad person.
And what about sterility?
Going from the lizard's argument, anyone who intends not to have a child is fundamentally a bad person.
I said it was to do with your own opinion.
And what about sterility?
diseased, wastes of people who contribute nothing to society. [editline]12:53AM[/editline]
I said it was to do with your own opinion.
so? People judge other people's opinions all the time; it's a forum
does your life need to have an impact on the world? if you are dead then it doesn't really matter, also your children aren't you they have their own minds and opinions. People don't remember famous people for thier parents, they remember them for their own acomplishments and personalities.
does your life need to have an impact on the world? if you are dead then it doesn't really matter, also your children aren't you they have their own minds and opinions.
Freedom of speech is already restricted.
So how come we are prioritizing creating new rights over clearing up and engrounding the ones we are supposed to already have.
The thing with 'leaving your mark' on the world is that it's really a very overrated phenomenon. When I think of someone supposedly 'great' on a mass scale, I question whether they've fundamentally changed my life all that much. On a subjective scale, friends, partners and my family are much, much greater. As long as I die knowing I've made one person better than they would have been without me, I can be reasonably assured that they will pass on their good nature to someone else. It doesn't matter if it's to their child or to someone totally unrelated. [editline]01:01AM[/editline]
If it is one thing you'll learn, no matter who you are, you are replaceable.
you're probably the most uninspiring people I've ever heard.
I remember a time when this forum banned people for stupid homophobic comments. The old days just weren't as funny.
If it is one thing you'll learn, no matter who you are, you are replaceable.
Wow. Think more like this: If you spend your whole life thinking you mean nothing, then you won't. You also won't be happy.
I don't like gays because they tend to be greasy, disgusting people. [editline]08:16PM[/editline] Meaning I dislike greasy, disgusting people.
I don't like gays because they tend to be greasy, disgusting people. [editline]08:16PM[/editline] Meaning I dislike greasy, disgusting people.
Where exactly do you get that idea from?
-snip- should have seen it was a troll.
I'm Bisexual, so am I part of this here debate?
