I heard it 8 times on my fucking christian school goddamn I'm still deaf, please god kill the OP when he opens the bible.
This is my problem with Christians. They say to live by the Bible, but when someone brings up a bad part of it, they say "OH WELL JUST IGNORE THAT IT'S OUTDATED."
Nobody asked you about your problem with christians.
You're a virgin.
You have no sense of humor.
If you're into reading about a load of shit than yeah.
I heard it 8 times on my fucking christian school goddamn I'm still deaf, please god kill the OP when he opens the bible.
Why? WTF did I do? I am against religion, but I do like a good fiction book.
You're a virgin.
HHHDDDDURRR I think you're running low on humor. Might want to fill up.
It's a bit predictable and clichéd.
If you're into reading about a load of shit than yeah.
Well yeah, it is fiction after all.
I read the old testament and it can be very boring in very many parts. Also 99% of the people disappear after a few seconds. Don't know about the New Testament
I highly doubt any FPers have read the bible cover to cover.
isn't there some rule against talking about religion in the forums? also, it is a good book and I will back that statement 100%. I will not back down.
isn't there some rule against talking about religion in the forums?
What rock have you been living under? Half the forum would have been banned by now.
I highly doubt any FPers have read the bible cover to cover.
I can guarantee you that nobody on FP has read the entire bible
Do you enjoy reading literature with violence, possible racism, sexism, slavery, and a unforgiving divine being? The Bible may be the book for you!
This is my problem with Christians. They say to live by the Bible, but when someone brings up a bad part of it, they say "OH WELL JUST IGNORE THAT IT'S OUTDATED."
Well I do agree with you there, but if you do ignore the "bad" ones, then it is pretty good. I mean we hear about controversy about religion and law and all that, but most of the morals are decent, it's just the few that give religion all the bad press. And then it's probably the differences in a religion's teachings that cause any wars between them, so in that respect the bible isn't good, as the things that teach religion cause much hate. Most of the morals are taken from between the lines of story, so I think that it would be much better if there were no story and it were a list of rules, that way there would be less debate and all. But then the story is probably better than the bad morals anyway.
truly it is one of the books in the world that has the most useful morals, depending how you interpret them "dont kill your brother" is surely not a good one but if you seriously get the meaning then you get the moral pieces of paper led hundreds of generations as governor
Some parts are interesting others are a real bore, such as all the lineage and giving the dimensions of how the temple should be built. It was written in a culture that really liked exaggeration so some of the stuff is larger than life. Genesis is actually very interesting from a literary perspective, regardless of your religion; it's unique in that it doesn't have everything being born from something else. There's really no need for you to run out and buy a copy, I know the King James Bible is available online. http://www.biblegateway.com/versions/King-James-Version-KJV-Bible/ I personally like the St. Ignatius Bible the best since that's what I was brought up with, but I don't know as if it's online. As a side note, not all translations of the Bible are the same. I know that Catholics and Calvinists even have minor differences in the 10 commandments and the Jewish Torah differs in that Cain, Abel, and Seth all had a twin sister whom they were supposed to marry. The Latin teacher at my high school (she also was fluent in Ancient Hebrew and Ancient Greek) had her own nitpicking that she'd do with most translations; I remember her main one was that where we commonly see "kill" she felt a better translation would be "murder".
It is a mix of a story of human and social evolution and upheaval mixed with aesop esque fables and moral stories; if you're interested in that sort of thing then go for it
Go for the Qur’an. Same abrahamic imaginary friend, much shorter, with much better wording and storytelling.
I've heard the Qur'an contradicts itself. At least the bible follows the same set of morals throughout.
My R.E teacher said there was a manga of the bible ,which you may find more interesting. He also said that he tried to blow up parliament with guy fawkes so i wouldn't believe everything he says.
I've heard the Qur'an contradicts itself. At least the bible follows the same set of morals throughout.
The Qur'an is a story of how Muhammed tortures people for menial things.
No, its boring.
I find that it is a good book for giving people morals (except the ones that are outdated and cause discrimination).
So, in other words... it's a bad book for giving people morals.
I don't see why people need to get their morals from the bible. Don't kill, steal and so on... if you had to read a book for that you're a terrible person.
I don't see why people need to get their morals from the bible. Don't kill, steal and so on... if you had to read a book for that you're a terrible person.
There's more to the Bible than that.
apparently it's really archaic (well that's obvious) and boring actually
So, in other words... it's a bad book for giving people morals.
oh come on gnome at least give a better answer that is unbiased atheism doesn't mean a condtradicting thousands of years old book still is not great just because you are edgy and cool by being atheist
There's more to the Bible than that.
What like? Homosexuality is wrong, kill all non-believers, stone children that misbehave?
atheism doesn't mean a condtradicting thousands of years old book still is not great just because you are edgy and cool by being atheist
What?
What like? Homosexuality is wrong, kill all non-believers, stone children that misbehave?
Try actually reading it.
So, in other words... it's a bad book for giving people morals.
But the thing is, there are very few bad ones. Most of them are good. But yeah, although most people ignore the bad ones by now, I do agree with you there because there are always those who follow them all. But then it's mostly the people's fault who follow it, because you can't really blame a book that was written thousands of years ago.
