OGF is pretty damn good. Upstream Color is probably my favorite movie of the year though.
Upstream Color was great and interesting but tbh I kinda gave up on it. I understood it beyond the plot a bit, but it was too contrived. I just didn't see the point in trying to decipher it. However, I do remember hearing something really cool from I think a podcast Shane Carruth did- he said that he wanted to push film and not just tell a story but tell ideas and all that, and that he deliberately didn't give you the whole picture (obviously) because he wants to force the audience to come up with their own reasonings and their own ideas and themes and metaphors behind his pictures. Which I think is cool as hell even if it isn't really for me. I think my top 10 in no order would be this-- Mud Spring Breakers Filth Only God Forgives Gravity Prisoners Breathe In The Hunt Kauwboy This Is The End
there's still a shitload this year I need to catch up on... Esp foreign movies which aren't getting released quick enough.
This ended up being the year I listened to more new music then watched new movies.
OGF is brilliant. if you've just seen Drive from Refn then basically leave all expectations at the door cos its nothing like it. Well its stylish and has hyperviolence and not a lot of dialogue and Ryan Gosling but not the same. Its pretty heightened but a great trippy watch. Also one word to help you understand a lot of the film-- Oedipus Its one of my favourite of the year but then again Spring Breakers is probably my favourite film of the year so maybe I am not reliable
have you seen Kids? it's Harmony Korine's best film IMO. I loved spring breakers, I saw it in an art gallery which meant I took it as arthouse, which I think a lot of the people who hated it didn't

My favourite harmony korine film is gummo though, also one of my favourite films of all time. Imo it's a complete masterpiece. ah I saw it knowing it was Harmony korine so I knew roughly what I was in for, as much as you can with korine at least. Seeing a film in an art gallery sounds pretty sweet.

Gummo's great, but trash humpers is the weirdest shit, I still don't know if I like it or not.
Just came back from playing my first gig with the new jazz sextet I'm in. Probably a hundred people there give or take, pretty fun show.

Going to new movies is way too expensive. I usually really only see one in a theater a year.
there's still a shitload this year I need to catch up on... Esp foreign movies which aren't getting released quick enough.
I want to see The Limits of Control, the critics hated it but they don't know shit.

It's an experience ans definitely something interesting but yeah I'm in the same boat on whether or not it's actually good... But I guess it's nit really trying to be. I really wanna watch julien donkey boy, had it on my computer for ages but never got round to watching it. Mr lonely is quite good. Much more straight forward than his other stuff, it's mostly a nice film. Almost woody Allen-ish. It's not his best though.
I feel so uncultured about movie this year. I only saw lame box office hits like Pacific Rim, Elysium (ew) and Jurassic Park. List your top movies from this year y'all. I need something to watch.
the only movie i've seen this year was gravity and it was good so it's ok
I don't have the attention span for movies, so I watch TV shows and anime instead
i missed out on pacific rim and im bummed about it

Donkey boy is really good, it's my friend's favourite movie. Also Ken Park is good, it's a collab with Larry Clarke again and it bears similarities to Kids but it's quality in its own right
just saw Pacific Rim a few days ago with a friend, I really wasn't impressed tbh.
