i was bitten by a billion different species of whatever, confused and obliterated by the culture... srs some of india is like Spain and some of it is like a mad crazy free-for-all then another bit which is serene and sweet.
too much 4 me for one lifetime :)
china and india is still asia
there were even asians who looked and sounded asian, yet were portuguese
i'm further down on my road of confusion :(
i'm not sure if i'd call them my favorite, but they're definitely top 3, and i consider them objectively the best.
boris?
sounds like a kraut rock band or something
Boris are Japanese.
don't kraut rock literally mean german rock?
i'm confused where the term comes from
Kraut Rock is rock made by anyone who enjoys listening to sauerkraut.
Boris make some sweet albums but some of their stuff is just mind-numbingly boring imo.
I agree. I wouldn't call them the greatest rock band, but they have some pretty good jam.
don't kraut rock literally mean german rock?

iirc the term actually came from Britain. A bunch of reporters and critics weren't really sure what to call the music that Can, Faust, Kraftwerk, etc. were making so someone dubbed it krautrock and it just stuck.
I can see why some people don't dig boris; boris is not for everyone. However, BORIS is generally always cool.
I've listened to a Boris album or two, and it just bored the absolute shit out of me.
It was like the musical equivalent to white noise. I think it was the album they did with Sunn O)))
Do they have any less drone-y more rock type albums?

Yeah, a ton. That Sun O))) album they did is boring as shit. Check out Pink for noise-rock, Smile for psychedelic metal/rock, Akuma No Uta for Stoner/Punk stuff, Feedbacker for stoner metal. Boris is all over the place and that's one of the reasons they're so great.

This is correct but sort of vague. At the time there was still a bit of resentment over WWII so of course it was called krautrock but the origins of the term came from an Amon Duul song which roughly translated to something about Mama Duul and a Sauerkraut band. I think Melody Maker called it krautrock first
Kosmiche Musik was a more popular term for it at the time, as far as I know the only people who called it krautrock during the 60s and 70s were the British press and now it's used too broadly. It's not even a recognisable genre really, its just german prog and german psych rock at a specific time and no krautrock band likes to be labelled krautrock because it's belittling and it's sort of a silly term - Ash Ra Tempel and Neu! are both labelled krautrock and are literally nothing alike
[editline]7th January 2014[/editline]
At the time it was sort of a way for the press to be like "look at these Germans making music how silly haha krautrock" but in reality there was a cultural explosion in Germany in the 60s and 70s that's too diverse to just be called krautrock
Listened to porcupine tree because of you; thank you. Would you recommend some albums/songs of Porcupine tree and Blackfield
Bit late, but I primarily listen to In Absentia, Stupid Dream, Deadwing, and Fear of a Blank Planet. I like Sky Moves Sideways, but I have to be in a particular mood to listen to it. As for Blackfield, I've only actually listened to their first album, although on repeat for weeks.

Thanks, I'll have to look into those. I think I listened to Feebacker once before and it was alright, forgot that was by Boris. I just hope What comes back up soon.
I hope we get some sort of freeleech, though I'd understand if we didn't. Staying afloat this year seems to be a struggle let alone unleashing the floodgates and letting anyone download anything. Tokens would be nice like last year.
I'm hopeful cause I'm scared my main hard drive with all of my music may have been killed when my PSU/CPU/Motherboard died this past week :(
What will music be like in 2030?
That reminds me, I should back up all my music onto my external harddrive. I haven't backed it up in months, and I've gotten probably 10gb of music since then.
Hey, >music newcomer here. Anyone here listened to one of the latest singles from Phantogram?

one of the best songs they've done and the greatest sin was not to put john wesley on lead vocals for the actual recording (or more often in general)
dang, that song transports me

Heavy Rocks (2002 album)
I'll keep that one in mind too.
I've been having an issue with my brand new speakers lately, in that they keep sort of clicking and making static sounds at random. It's very frequent and super annoying so I turn them off when I'm not listening to music and use my laptop speakers for everything else.
My old Logitech speakers started to do the same thing recently, before I replaced them with my much nicer active Alesis pair. Could it be something electronic interfering with the speakers causing them to buzz? I remember having my guitar amp near my computer and it would occasionally make noises, and then stopped working out of the blue. Whether this was because it was an unimaginably bad $20 amp or for some other reason I don't know.
Hey, >music newcomer here. Anyone here listened to one of the latest singles from Phantogram?
Ooo new Phantogram, I really liked Eyelid Movies. It was chill to listen to. Thanks for this I need to remember to listen to it when I get home.
Oh man, the last half of Feedbacker, Part 2 is amazing. That guitar work is really something to be admired.
Only music that plays in movies aimed at american high-school / college kids is real.
Stumbled across this.

Sorta drone/sludge/doom/mathcore thrown into a blender.

the context is basically it, but the term kinda stuck with this Faust's song, it's like the term Straight Edge stucking after Minor Threat's song "straight edge".

Has What always used Cloudflare?
Hopefully they'll be back soon, I want a couple things by Boris and Muse. Consequently, I've never listened to Muse, would someone recommend me a good place to start?
