M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming for 2011? I think a 7 year old could stomach it pretty easily, it's not too slow, abrasive or intricate for someone that age. Not sure though, there could be many better options that I'm not considering. [editline]21st May 2013[/editline] It also manages to be relatively ~out there~ and ~different~ compared to other pop records without pushing the boundary too far.
Shit, everyone's back Maybe this thread will get more interesting like it was, ~back in the day~

Over time he'll obviously have more, but it'd be cool to have a well rounded beginning.
m83 is generic trash [editline]21st May 2013[/editline] imo
you listen to much dream pop sed vedicardus? the most dream pop music ever sounded
m83 is generic trash [editline]21st May 2013[/editline] imo
Generic trash or not, I think he's a decent introduction to shoegaze and dream pop.
it's not original (obviously) and its overhyped that's all i really need to know [editline]21st May 2013[/editline] i dont listen to the genre much because its boring. shoegaze is meant to be boring and that does not appeal to me

akayz you should give your nephew Flying Lotus - Until The Quiet Comes for 2012.
I ain't even heard that yet :v: How's it compare to Cosmo?
I haven't listened Cosmogramma yet but UTQC really is a great album; smooth instrumentation, very jazzy, has a nice haunting feel on a few of the tracks. Definitely give it a listen.

What the christ is the appeal? [editline]22nd May 2013[/editline] whoever remembers this thread: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1033431&highlight= wow, really goldenage music section there, shame most of the images died.
I listened to cassettes all the time as a kid, trouble these days is most feed only by TV and crap films that occasionally show up e.g. those chipmunk films. What the christ is the appeal?
Most kids films these days are pretty good TBH, they're not just dumb humour such as the chipmunk films. TV can be different, quality varies more but there are some shows that actually manage to combine music and leaning like Yo Gabba Gabba. The entire point of it though I suppose is to instill some form of morals and values, which is why this whole "tween" thing annoys me, all of the fills that fall into the category are essentially girls bickering. All of this is meaningless if you basically use the TV as a babysitter.
The only annoying thing is that it's double play, still I doubt a 7 year old would listen to a full album anyway.
Hey man, I listened to full albums when I was seven >:( I get where you're coming from with the double play thing, though. He might not have the attention span for 75 straight minutes, but splitting it into two parts is an option. Each disc is around 37 minutes long, and even if it does make the album a bit more lackluster, I imagine he'd be more willing to sit through that.
I ain't even heard that yet :v: How's it compare to Cosmo?
I can't quite remember since I didn't listen to it actively. From what I can recall, it's more mellow and jazzy as DJK said. Worth a spin, but I still prefer Los Angeles to both. [editline]21st May 2013[/editline] Now that I'm listening to it again, I can say what I remembered was spot-on.
god guys, 84 new posts is too much to keep up with
fffffffff I had this idea to get my nephew for his birthday a starter collection, then thought why not "an album from each year he had a birthday". Unremarkable years 2010-2012.. Struggling a bit. Maybe I'll chuck in afrojazz instead.
Why not buy him the Suburbs? or Sound of Silver (just because its more kid friendly than This is Happening) Sound of silver has songs like "all my friends" and "someone great" which are really cute and positive [editline]22nd May 2013[/editline] lol I can't remember who anyone is anymore, too many people
He's exposed to a lot of rock in his own home so I'm going to go for the "less likely that you're parents will hear section". They all would like Arcade Fire though, I might just give that to them. Honestly what kids want to emulate their parents' taste exactly? [editline]22nd May 2013[/editline]
or Sound of Silver (just because its more kid friendly than This is Happening)
"North American Scum"? That's not going to go down well.
Yeah I don't know, the content of that song isn't offensive really, only the name which i guess its still a problem, its probably less offensive than drunk girls though struggling to think of much in that era though that would be worthwhile - not sure if that's a reflection of the amount of listening I did then, or just how good the era was I can't afford to buy CD or vinyl anymore, its devastating i guess i need to find a way to do it somehow [editline]22nd May 2013[/editline] Who here lives not with parents and knows how to save truckloads of money
