There are plenty of good albums from 2010-2012 that I can think of right now, but very few are really suitable for a 7-year-old [editline]21st May 2013[/editline] Maybe Kishi Bashi - 151a for 2012? Not particularly important for that year but it's fun and generally kid-friendly I'm just grasping at straws here

[editline]22nd May 2013[/editline] I guess in all honesty his first albums don't have to be a wide mix of genres, that can happen gradually. Just a few where he'd just want to play em and spin em. :)
I've got another suggestion for 2012, Bad Brains - Into The Future. I'm pretty sure it's lacking in profanity but it may be a bit too loud or heavy or something.
Burial - Untrue Caribou - Swim more considerations.
Honestly, I think he'd get bored of Untrue pretty quickly.
He's seen Forrest Gump and Spirited Away, I don't think you can make rash assumptions just yet :-) Magnetic Fields' last album was pretty good too.
Who here lives not with parents and knows how to save truckloads of money
just dont eat like i do
who even eats food anyway

bad brains is still around wtf
I heard that album was a bit of a dud, did they really just abandon themselves to reggae there?
Nope the hardcore punk is still very present, it's generally slower and less punk than their other albums but I quite liked it. Of course a lot more reggae is infused into the tracks than their previous albums but I think it worked well. EDIT: actually everything i just posted makes me think it's a pretty good album to introduce a young child to Bad Brains or hardcore punk in general. Slower and less heavy but still maintaining the key elements.

get him christian death
Innerspeaker could be a good choice for 2010
just dont eat like i do
I have a spreadsheet up and the only thing on it is rice and my girlfriend's parents I mean I don't want to eat her parents but desperate times call for desperate measures
Innerspeaker could be a good choice for 2010
I think this is a good choice but it clashes with arcade fire and I know which one I would choose if pushed
best modern punk around [editline]21st May 2013[/editline] also perhaps shortest ep of all time
I've got another suggestion for 2012, Bad Brains - Into The Future. I'm pretty sure it's lacking in profanity but it may be a bit too loud or heavy or something.
what? [editline]21st May 2013[/editline]
I heard that album was a bit of a dud, did they really just abandon themselves to reggae there?
omg this thread is making me so mad rn [editline]21st May 2013[/editline]
fffffffff I had this idea to get my nephew for his birthday a starter collection, then thought why not "an album from each year he had a birthday". Unremarkable years 2010-2012.. Struggling a bit. Maybe I'll chuck in afrojazz instead.
2010 - Tera Melos - Patagonian Rats 2011 - Julianna Barwick - The Magic Place 2012 - TsuShiMaMiRe - SHOCKING these are obvious choices [editline]21st May 2013[/editline] finally let me fucking say that bad brains reggae elements are NOT COOL and are what RUINED THE BAND. thus black dots is their only good album front to back; it only has TWO reggae songs and they are not completely awful, just annoying. S/T on ROIR has one of the most obnoxious reggae drones of all time and i will not stand for it. rock for light has some of the worst production of all time. i could go on. what really killed the band for me was the loss of rhythm guitar. it's what makes black dots stand out. [editline]21st May 2013[/editline] at least their first 2 live tapes are awesome. very awesome.
