I read all the time, it's really good and imo not enough people read. Reading Hunter S Thompson's autobiography rn.

The novel is much better than the movie
I have ~40 pages left of Dune to read. It's definitely become one of my favorite books. I'm not sure what I'll read next - either a book about the history of Acid or this comic called Fun Home that I bought a while back.
The movie is not very good but I don't like Terry Gilliam so thats probably a factor
I remember a dude in my couras last year said he did a writing course or something ad near enough everyone attempted to emulat Hunter s Thompson in at least one essay which is hilarious to me

Yea it might be a good book but does it match the David Lynch film with Sting in it aka the Magnum opus of cinema

I'm reading Nausea by Sartre just now and it's truly Incredible but with each page I feel an existential crisis closing in further and further
I'm currently reading Catch-22. House of Leaves is next on my list, then Siddhartha.

I've seen it once or twice but never paid any attention to it because its a lot to digest without any knowledge of the world imo. But I bought it on blu-ray to watch with my friend once we're both done with the book, that and PTP just had the two mini-series on free leech so I am stoked.

House of Leaves always seemed like gimmicky garbage.

I've heard just the opposite from everyone I've talked with about it. They've said that the book is pretty well-written and the weird formatting just adds to it
cool music

Tbh I've not actually seen dune lol I've just heard its pretty bad via studio meddling and major issues over final cut. David lynch himself hates it. I'm still interested in what it would be like if alejandro jodorosky got to direct it as he originally was. Jodorosky was originally set to direct Return of th Jedi as well, which would have been.. Interesting considering all his work is really surreal and highly symbolic and confusing :v: Lynch has recently become one of my favourites though. Dude's a master.

Jodorosky's Dune was gonna be like 14 hours long. There was a documentary made last year called 'Jodorosky's Dune' which I've heard is cool.

Fear and Loathing is intense. Definitely one of my favourite works of social commentary.
The novel is much better than the movie
Well yeah, the movie was just like "HAHA DRUGS, WHACKY SHIT, MORE DRUGS, THREATS, ABOUT 1 MINUTE OF THE ACTUAL IMPORTANT MESSAGE OF THE BOOK, A SPRINKLE OF SENTIMENTALITY, MORE DRUGS".
I think he means art in general. There's a lot of people who see two movies (in and out of theaters), who listen to two albums, who don't read any books, who don't care for visual art (paintings, images, i dunno the name) and are just content talking about something (????) with people who are similar.
It's just the same as people who appreciate art and don't care for something like, celebrity gossip, but its just weird from my perspective as someone who can't stop consuming art.
[editline]29th January 2014[/editline]
but this is ridiculous. how can you not be interested in, movies and shows at its basic state, stories. Like, that's all humans have ever consistently showed some sort of appreciation for even on the walls of caves, people have adored creating and consuming stories. I don't see what makes television or film any more or less boring than anything else.
i mean the literal television format. episodes, series.
i enjoy films and shorts a lot. i can't really get in to a series as well
[editline]30th January 2014[/editline]
tho i admit panel shows are something of a guilty pleasure, but they're not story bound
Reading actually is really nice at night. It isn't boring, but will help you fall asleep. Just finished reading A Maze of Death by Philip K. Dick (one of my favorite authors). Would recommend it. He writes science fiction, but has it often focused on very worldly characters opposed to super soldiers who always choose good and save humanity. His short stories are more plot focused if you prefer that. Lots of famous movies based on his novels and short stories too. Most well known ones are probably Blade Runner (book was called Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and was pretty different), Total Recall, and Minority Report. I used to hate reading, but in the past few years have started enjoying it a lot.
Ahahahhaahaha, no. I'm the kind of person that has to finish a book in one or two sittings when I start.
Reading whilst travelling is the god tier way to read.

great way to pass the time on bus journeys.
audiobook masterrace

I get motion sickness if I look at my phone or a book or whatever else is similar to that in a bus or car. No problem in a train but I don't travel via train.

me too, and once it starts it doesn't go away for a while even if i stop reading/looking. i hate it.
i used to love reading and i'd like to start reading books again but i feel like i don't have the time even though i don't have a job or go to school
also books are kinda expensive

Yea I fancy it but it's not screened outside of festivals, it'll hopefully come near me when it does its theatrical run and I'll see it then. Nicolas winding refn apparently has a significant part in it (he also dedicated only God forgives to jodorosky which was cool)
I tried reading Dune in english. Then again, I suck at reading in english so I had no idea what I was reading.
this is why shrek 1 is best
