Bill Callahan's gig was so fukken far out man... Great stuffs, was only a few metres from the stage. Thing is... the majority of the crowd were in the 30s-50s and there was this really old man towards the front who was seemingly bored by all the noise. Honestly, I could only identify with a few people in the crowd who actually listens to his music and doesn't just read an advert describing him as the "next bob dylan" or some shit. For such an artist whose quiet and intimate, he sure worked the crowd well, he acknowledged the shit British weather and crazy 2deep4me art at the Tate into his music :) [editline]9th February 2014[/editline] I was sitting next to Moby too, who was dull as a dodo.. baldest head I've ever seen
Hey cool, you sat next to moby

I fixed my electric guitar after months of it being super bowed in, and I really want to start learning the "proper way" to learn playing. I've always just looked up tabs and played along, but I feel like that's not teaching me anything. Any points, guitarist dudes?

Rhythm notation is also useful to know but isn't necessary. But yeah, learn chords and scales.
Learn your modes, they're super useful Start with the following modes and understand how they relate to your scale and where the root lies and where the perfect 5th lies for each - ionian dorian phrygian lydian mixolydian aeolian locian learning those modes pretty much guarantees that you know which notes work for every scale all across the neck

I took a music theory class and understood most of the stuff but it seems to go out the window on guitar in some ways. It's pretty easy to understand how it works on the piano, but it seems so much less linear on guitar. I mean, I was testing myself to see if I could figure out a Cm chord knowing the root and intervals of a C chord and I was completely wrong. Now I wish I'd have taken guitar class in high school.
if you have theory down you just need to learn the chord and scale shapes
I wouldn't necessarily say I have theory down, but I'd like to think I know some useful things. But learning chord shapes is definitely something I want to do early on, because I don't like having to look up individual chords every time I want to try and play something.

You can already take a C major on a guitar, and you know the three notes in a C major is C, E and G - on a guitar the strings would be E(E), C(A), E(D), G(G), B(C), E(E), their standard tuning in (). Now to make C major into a minor you just have to make E into E# - issue is that the E strings can't go any lower than what they are tuned to so you will have to go up and play G on the E strings and then play E# on another string such as the B string. That's the theory of it, but such a chord may be hard to play so you'd have to tweak it a bit, maybe not play all strings but just make sure you have atleast one C, one E# and one G in there and no other notes unless you want to colour it, just never play an E and an E# at the same time when taking a C minor.
one of you people were talking about this town needs guns in some thread so I checked them out and I'm way into the animals album so thanks
Twinkly 'math' rock like TTNG is really enjoyable.
it's like looking at the world through sepia tinted glasses
math rock is really terrible
holy shit so advanced
