That's what I'd like to do first but it's a bit frustrating. I took a music theory class and understood most of the stuff but it seems to go out the window on guitar in some ways. It's pretty easy to understand how it works on the piano, but it seems so much less linear on guitar. I mean, I was testing myself to see if I could figure out a Cm chord knowing the root and intervals of a C chord and I was completely wrong.
Now I wish I'd have taken guitar class in high school.
its still linear on guitar. In fact its more linear in a lot of ways

I've been playing piano practically all of my life, and I've used it to compose and also to learn songs by ear. Most of the material I try to learn is guitar-centered music, so a lot of times the arrangements come out kind of awkward when being played on a keyboard. Like I said, I started to play some guitar recently, and as I was trying to learn how to play the same songs on guitar, I realized how simple they really are. A lot of times it's the use of open strings, fret proximity etc. that results in compositions that you wouldn't be able to think of right away if you were using a piano.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that both instruments are fairly simple, but have an entirely different approach when it comes to playing them. With the piano, every key is right in front of you and it's up to you to decide which ones you play, as long as they're in reach of your fingers. On the other hand, given the interval-centered nature of the guitar, the amount of chords/arpeggios you can do in a relatively small space is far greater, and there's also the possibility of trying out random positions that may or may not sound good. That's how I see it anyway.
I'm awkward as shit on keyboard too man
really it depends on what you find more natural I guess
Bit off-track here, but i'm looking for some good 90's (Doesn't have to be nineties) feel good indie tunes like maybe 1979 by Smashing Pumpkins and stuff like that, generally stuff that sounds as beautiful as that song is.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Stuff like this

It's rad, I'm going through a bit of a phase.
If it doesn't belong in a high-school/college movie from the late 90's/early 00's I can't help you.

you're right, silly mistake to make but yeh
You're thinking of an Eb there ;)
I've been teaching myself to play guitar recently, and whenever I play a Cm chord I just bar it like this:

This is what confused me, isn't the root note here an A#? I understand that there is a C on the B string but that's higher up than the A# being played on the A string. Maybe my understanding of root notes is just fundamentally flawed.

The 3 on the upper left corner indicates the fret number. The root note, in this case, is a C.
If anybody likes Animal Collective, Avey Tare is with another band right now called Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks. They released this today.

AK'z I decided to listen to some of the stuff you uploaded and it is really calming which is good right now. Thank you for uploading it, wouldn't never listened to this stuff otherwise.
The Sticks was a cool album.
Ryan looks like a weird fusion of David Bowie and Josh Homme.

listened to asteroid boys a couple of months ago, it's neat but not really my thing. like I would listen to it while skating or even walking but not when I'm casually listening to music

well they are very chill now that I listen to them again, might give them another shot
theyre a pretty big thing in the DIY scene here. This dude I know who puts on a lot of hardcore/emo shows reps them hard, back in the UK EMO group on facebook they were fuckin worshipped. That group shut down about 2 weeks ago though, still gutted over it cos it was so great :( think it was about 7000 members and it was a rly great community all about hardcore and emo stuff going on all over the UK but it was great fun too, not really anything else to replace it which sucks cos UKHC is just memes and random shit but so little music discussion lol.
dang that does sound great, rip
the posi posse is there for you
