Death Grips are over apparently. Hoping they're just saying it for publicity. Opinions?

they're probably done for real, and it's good that they quit now before their material totally went to shit.

Yeah, it's probably good, but I like to hope that they could've continued to push out great music after many years like Swans still does.
idk there was no signs of them getting worse at all. They were still growing every release. Personally I think it's a publicity stunt tbh

Swans took a considerable break, though, and their music evolved to a point where it's now completely unlike their early material. They're barely the same band anymore. The way I see it, Death Grips didn't quite have as much room to expand as Swans did; it's just three dudes making music, one of whom is solely a rapper, and one of whom has a very well-defined drumming style. I think it was a great way for MC Ride and Flatlander to become established figures in music, but their style was likely stifling for creative potential. The project wasn't anything like Swans in that sense; their style changed significantly over time, while DG has always stayed pretty true to their original work. I know that Zach Hill will probably continue with solo material and start a new project, but I'm very interested to see where Andy and Ride will end up in the next few years.

I think they were on the verge of getting pretty stale. What the fans expected was basically what they always delivered, and that was going to become a problem soon. I think that they've picked a decent time to split (if it is permanent, which I wouldn't doubt) and they'll all go on to work on new, more diverse projects.
Besides, it's entirely possible that they're just sick of working with one another at this point. They've seemingly been recording nonstop since NLDW was released, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're burnt out on DG.
I mentioned that at the end of my post

To me, Swans are a group making music, and Death Grips are a group of individuals making music. Not sure if that's the best way to convey it though.

Hakita pls I'm trying to put my past behind me much love xoxo
putting your past behind you is dumb
you have to learn and grow man, you have to learn and grow from what you done in the past dont ignore that stuff
Yeah, I'm not exactly proud of the fact that Blink-182 and Green Day used to be my favorite bands, but I accept it. I just look back at myself and think "wow my taste still sucks" but now it's indie trash instead
